Jordy wilken was best rescue. But he retired because of the bad ground.

I'm absolutly in shock! so many horses were just EXHAUSTED! I really think that these eventing courses should be lowerd down. It's not good for our sport to be portrait like that

Not even the fences at this event, the time was just so cruel. It took at least 30 riders before someone got close.

@@LS-vb3ko oh wow - I really don't think that's portraying fairness. I'm an eventer myself but I really am not okay with these big competitions! It's too risky for the horses

Totally agree. The time allowed in XC is way too harsh, and this is only a CCI4*-L, not even a 5* ranked competition (that doesn't make it any more okay, but then at least it's a bit more known that it will be aggressive since its the top of the line event). I know for high level competition you need something that will prove the best of the best but honestly, this is three phases, not just XC. What really was unfair about all this is that the conditions weren't good to begin with because of all the rain, maybe this was doable in dry conditions but still, there is no reason why the horses need to be so exhausted they're gasping for air at the end.

They just do not get their horses prepared. Ros canter and lordship graffolo romped home. Most of the British team also were close. All About the prep. In my day we had steeplechase and a couple of sets of roads and track plus the x country. Correct conditioning is a responsibility.

@@winstonsmith8172 Pippa Funnell once said that the steeplechase phase often got the ‘fizz ‘out of a gassy horse and might it be better prepared to tackle the cross country, but that only applies to good going. This was the first time that Haras du Pin in Normandy has held the event since 1969, when we won team gold and individual gold and silver. The Halcyon Days of Three Day Eventing. Remember Mary Gordon Watson and Richard Walker. He was the youngster rider to win Badminton on Pasha.Mary also won the WC at Punchestown. She too was a small rider on a big horse. Ros Canter lives on the Lincolnshire Wolds, so lots of hill work for fitness. Bad for the spot to show exhausted horses.

After watching this and several other trials, I would never ride with a martingale if I could avoid it. I saw one fine horse catch his hoof in it and take a bad fall. I think I saw at least two broken ones in the films I reviewed today. At the very least they should be breakaway to prevent accidental catching.

Are you going to post the falls from burghley horse trials?
