  • On a day when even the best were caught out on cross country at the FEI Eventing European Championship, Ros Canter and Lordships Graffalo ate up every fence and were the only combination to finish clear and inside the time. 🤩
    The foot-perfect round saw the pair leap up the standings to comfortably nab the top spot individually and to keep Great Britain in the pole position heading into the final showdown tomorrow. 🇬🇧
    If you want a masterclass in cross country, this is the round to watch. 👌

    This horse is veryyyy good. Always concentrated and precise in his jumps, it's so natural for him that it seems like he thinks it's all a piece of cake.

    That noseband is going to cut off the horse's muzzle.

      What kind of noseband is it?

    • @jillbeverley9302
      @jillbeverley9302 Рік тому

      Dogs have muzzles. The horse has bone around his nose and if he has a leather piece below the bit,it is to keep his mouth closed. There are a number of different types of nose bands.

      @@jillbeverley9302 don't take my comment so literally :) Such a tight noseband is extremely painful and stressing for a horse; that's pure abuse.

    It is sad to see quite that much froth on both front and back legs at the beginning... I know it's from a copper mouth, but it's also water loss

      these horses absolutely love their job. if they didn’t trust me they absolutely wouldn’t do it, you can tell when a horse doesn’t want to do it. these horses trust their riders completely, and vice versa. ofc there’s abuse in every discipline, but majority of riders adore their horses, and if the horse was not up for the job they wouldn’t do it, hence why one of the commentators said that lots of people withdraw when the ground isn’t good, they do that knowing their horse won’t be suited to the ground and they don’t want to hurt them.

    • @pumpkinhead8593

      @@matildada1e01 Wether or not they love it is up for debate, personally I believe if they did love it you wouldn't need bits, spurs and whips to make them comply. Either way, even if they did love it, this sport is incredibly dangerous for the horse. They don't understand the risk, they just do what we make them do. They don't understand that if they land a little awkwardly and break a leg, the rider they trust so much will have them killed. They don't realize that the rider they trust so much is happy to lay the horse's life on the line (not their own life, of course) for the chance to win a ribbon. And even if they did know all of this, they wouldn't get a choice in the matter anyway.

    • @matildada1e01

      @@pumpkinhead8593 most of what you’ve said here is not actually accurate. whips and spurs etc, are absolutely not used to force a horse to do anything, top riders use them to give precise aids and back up the leg, it’s only nasty people that use them to force a horse to do anything. you can tell when you ride a horse if they enjoy xc or not, if they don’t there’s literally almost nothing you can do to make them do it. And no most riders do not deliberately put their horses at risk, there’s a few bad ones who definitely do not know when to just stop, but majority of the time, if the horse is taking a few awkward jumps or getting too tired, the rider will retire. remember these animals (and their riders) are trained for this, and they aren’t actually allowed to do it until they are proved to be capable. All that being said i do agree with one of your points, and have to say there are some fences in some courses that are just too much to ask, however hopefully that will change, and allow the sport to be safer.

      @@matildada1e01 Every time someone points out welfare issues in horse sports, people love to come back with "if the horse didn't like it, it wouldn't do it". I'm sorry but that's just asanine. Do you know what big lick is? If you don't, look it up. The horses are forced to move in a very unnatural way by putting them through horrible pain. I'm sure we can all agree that those horses do NOT enjoy having heavy shoes nailed to their hooves that are so heavy their legs look like they're about to snap by the sheer force of the momentum when they move, or being sored with acid and chains that cut into their ankles, or having freshly cut ginger stuck up their privates to get that nice tail lift.
      But do those horses perform at the shows? Boy oh boy do they ever! And they do it well. So yes, you can definitely make a horse do what you want, wether they like it or not. Even when they are in excruciating pain, they WILL perform.
      I know big lick is an extreme example, but lets be honest, horse training is based on pain avoidence. There's no point in denying that.

    • @matildada1e01
      @matildada1e01 4 місяці тому +1

      @@pumpkinhead8593 the big lick is a disgusting thing, however comparing it to this is ridiculous. I’m all for horses being as happy as they can possibly be in the sport, and i dislike the use of harsh equipment, however when people come on here and say things like it’s abusive and the horses are forced to do it, it’s just very unfair. yes there are definitely some nasty people in the sport, who do not deserve their place there, however there are so so many good people, who make the sport all about the horse and rider working as a team, the woman in this video for example spends years developing partnerships with her horses, and doing everything in as kind a way as she possibly can, doing lots of groundwork, desensitising, and making sure the horse is as fit and ready to compete as they possibly can be. Most of these horses are NOT forced to do this, it is impossible to be getting as good dressage scores as some of them are getting is the horse is not enjoying what it’s doing, as eventing dressage is all about being relaxed, supple and accurate. so please, i urge you take a look at some of the good equestrians in the sport, and you will completely understand where i’m coming from, and almost all of these horses absolutely love the thrill of the xc phase, they are animals who enjoy new challenges and having fun at speed
