I knew all of this, but I still have tears in my eyes looking at how my ancestors suffered. I am so grateful to all those who fought for independence and all those who made India a better place to live. People like me who were born after the liberalisation of 1991 are living in paradise compared to previous 10 generations.
To put this in present terms imagine the US (as of today) reduced to sub-Saharan Africa levels of poverty (as of today) in just 150 years. That is what the British did to India.

Just want to point out that the current perceived caste system didn't always exist in India. Ancient Indians followed the Varna system, which placed one in a specific caste based on their skills. It was not forbidden to change caste. It was only after the Muslim invasions, where certain castes accepted Islam, that caste became more rigid. Then what followed was years of Church propaganda. Just want to point out that the current perceived caste system didn't always exist in India. Ancient Indians followed the Varna system, which placed one in a specific caste based on their skills. It was not forbidden to change caste. It was only after the Muslim invasions, where certain castes accepted Islam, that caste became more rigid. Then what followed was years of Church propaganda. Also fun fact, the British royal navy contracted the Wadia group in India to build their ships. As it was stated that no other people were able to build such strong ships.
