I used to be in guitar lessons when I was a kiddo and really was fond of the smallish size of them (I played a 3/4 guitar, though I stopped when I left that school) and recently picked up a tenor ukulele. I'm a study-holic and just graduated school so I'm hoping that this will scratch that "learning" itch while also being good for my well-being and super fun to learn! This was a great first lesson, thank you!
I bought myself a ukulele earlier this year. A fabulous and very fun musical instrument. A great purchase. The transition from guitar to ukulele was very easy. After a couple of hours I was flying on it.

I'm primarily a guitar player, but bought a ukulele about a year ago, and find it great to just unwind!! Great fun, and a nice different sound to play with!! Also fairly easy for anybody to play, and if you already have experience with guitar, dead easy to get started!! Gove it a try, you will love it!! 😊😊

Hey at 40 years old I picked up a Brunswick tenor Uke , loved it at 50 I moved one to the baritone Uke Pono, now at sixty I now play a Furch ga guitar how time flys , great way to start playing a stringed instrument ............

I just bought a ukulele and it arrived today. I watched someone else's beginner ukulele video, couldn't figure it out, and I felt dumb. But then I watched yours, and you explained everything so well, and made it so much easier. You encouraged me. I learned the 3 chords, have been practicing, and having so much fun! Thank you so much! Excellent tutorial. I've been playing bass for over 30 years and this one lesson shows me how to create some basic chords and switch between them.
I think this is the first ukulele channel with lessons, and the instructor actually knows how to pronounce it... not "you-ka-lay-lee"... but "oo-koo-lay-lay"... thank you, at last.
Carry on, Marty. I got KALA soprano - which needed some intonation help - and, thanks to watching a luthier channel - was able to fix myself. Mahalo.

been playing uke for 5 years still wondering how I got here from a ukulele underground play along. But I love your videos and use them to try to relearn guitar but hey it's finally a video where I know how to play the chords. Maybe that's why I ditched my guitar for my uke in 8th grade lol.

I just bought an Ibanez UICT10-BK Ukulele and I am on the search for beginner lessons since I know nothing about playing it. I chose a Uke due to my very small hands and short arms and fingers and always wanted to learn how to play guitar, but I feel that a uke would be more comfortable for me to play due to my size. Thank you for your videos!

For your guitar players, the uke chords are a fifth away from the guitar chord; essentially, a C on uke would be a G on guitar, C-D-E-F-G, the form for the F chord is the C chord on guitar. F-G-A-B-C. The bottom string on guitar; D G B E.
Or, the uke chord is the fourth from the guitar chord. C on uke is the G form on guitar. G-A-B-C.
The Soprano Uke is tuned G C A E.

This really helped! I didn’t even know how to strum correctly until I watched this video. I still have a bit of trouble on how much I should press on each string but I’ll get the hang of it.
You apply enough pressure to let the string ring and not buzz.

Nice video, Marty. I come from years of playing guitar and am having a hard time transitioning to the traditional way of strumming with the index finger. I'll keep trying, but it's like reprogramming the hand and brain. I like using a felt pick, or even a rubber pick, as you don't get as much slapping sound on the nylon strings as you do with a regular plastic pick. Mahalo!
