Thank you!!! My toilet was running and had a recently replaced flapper...your video showed me how to get to flapper and when I lifted it up, I saw the seal had come off. I took flapper out and reassembled the flapper...guess what? No more running toilet!!!! YAY!!!🤪
Thanks for the vid! I've had to replace a flange on a toilet at a previous residence, and that went great but it's been a few years, and it never hurts to find a how to vid, yours was the first to come up. I live in a nice townhome but maintenance takes ages. My flapper got very warped, and instead of telling the site manager I ordered the flapper on Amazon, got it in 2 business days, popped on this video and BAM all done in less than 5 mins! I appreciate your content!
Professional plumber or not, this video is exactly what I needed to fix my toilet! Why pay a plumber when you can fix it yourself and save money? Great video!
I'm not a professional either----far from it. But I replaced the flapper in my Briggs toilet yesterday. No gloves, didn't cut the water off----did it fast with the water flowing in. No issues. I have a Gerber in my master bath----figured I would check your video out in preparation for that flapper eventually going, LOL. Bothers me that the Gerber takes this unusual size. Most flappers are universal, the smaller size----you can buy bags of them cheap. I didn't realize the Gerber was this larger one----now I have to buy separate parts for one toilet in my house. Plumbing contractor didn't mention that when they sold me the Gerber. I do like the powerful flush though.
Just bought my house, and im getting phantom flushes, which causes the water to get hot as hell when I'm in the shower. About to replace my flapper to see if that fixes it (idk if it's just got a crappy seal or what) HOWEVER, the black, floater thing on the left where you can adjust the -/+, where abouts should that thing be?
Very helpful video. The arm that the flapper slides onto is so close to the toilet itself that there’s no way to put the new flapper on. I have no idea how the plumber installed it! Any thoughts?
Plumbers tend to have specialized tools or come up with there own. Tricks of the trade type of thing, which as an IT guy is outside my realm of knowledge.
Great video, thanks! I have a question: did you have any difficulty removing the flapper off the pegs? I'm trying to pull out my flapper which has the same closed openings for the pegs and they are not budging. Is it as simple as just pulling on the flapper handles to stretch out the holes?
For me it was more of an out and up motion that I needed to do to get them off. The flapper holes themselves will flex as it is just rubber, but you don't want to be too rough with it as the pegs are just plastic.
I realized the water was running after a few weeks It didn't run all the time so I was not sure where it was coming from. Until I got my water bill.. yikes! thank you for this video and also the link to flapper.
Great video. The Gerber toilet flappers don't last very long. this is my 2nd flapper for 2 toilets for my new house. Im sure I have wasted 100.00 bucks in high water bills. I went with your replacement link on Amazon.
That’s the problem I was having, figuring out how to remove the flapper because I’m used to seeing the clip on ones. These need to be stretched over the pegs.
Hmm. Other videos emphasize the fact that you only need to turn the water shut-off valve "a quarter turn". But mine won't shut off despite _several full turns._ I see that yours is the same way (0:44). I didn't want to keep cranking it, for fear it might break something. But, I guess some are made differently...
You may have the type of water valve that you have to pull to close and push to open. Mine are all like that and I had never seen that type before. My house was built in 2018.
To be honest I am not sure myself. I am sure it is some type of product number having to do with the size of the flapper and what model toilet it fits.
It is pretty tight. It was very hard to do around the camera which is why there are cuts. I bumped the camera a lot, and there might have been some swearing.
Um, first, let me state that I am NOT a professional commentor, that said, sometimes a do it yourselfer does a BETTER job than a so called professional. I know from experience, not just from repairs, but life in general too. Professional B.S.'rs most are.
OH, MY, GOD, I think this PLANdemic is my fault.......I did NOT wear gloves years ago performing this delicate operation. I'm NOT the Pro-plumber, R you.

Happy this was able to help you out. I come back to it when I need to change one out myself.

Thank you. This really helped me. I couldn’t figure out how to get the old flapper off until I watched this.
Happy I could help.

I just did this and worked wonderfully. So easy. Maybe 5 minutes. Thank you.
You beautiful human, thank you. ❤ No $70 maintenance fee for this renter here!
Thank you for this CLEAR video!!!

You want to adjust the black floater so that the water level is just at the top of the pipe on the right without going in.

@@Wanderer001_Reviews thanks. As an IT gal it’s outside my skill set! Maybe try a snap on flapper. Back to the hardware store!!
Afraid I'll have this same problem. I just ordered 2 replacement flappers and am hoping I can take off the old ones/put on the new ones.

Same here
I did it, but almost gave up. Arthritic hands probably made it even more of a challenge... it's not the easiest thing to do
That's what I'm having a problem with now. I have to try again
The video was good

+Joanie Happy I could help you out.
Do you have to adjust that little black arm with the “X”? I am very new to changing a flapper.
What you see in the video is all I did. I did not have to make any changes to any other parts.

For me it was my first replacement flapper for the Gerber, but I have used Korky flappers before with other toilets. They are very good for the price.
That’s the problem I was having, figuring out how to remove the flapper because I’m used to seeing the clip on ones. These need to be stretched over the pegs.
So very helpful! Thanx bunches!
Happy it helped.
Where did you purchase this Gerber flapper? Thanks
It was hard getting the old rubber flapper off the left side as it was too close to the toilet edge but handy wire clippers solved the problem
You're the best. Thanks for the video!
Happy it was able to help you out.
Ty. Helped me replace our 3 toilets
You still do have phantom flushing cuz it is above and about to fall into the overflow tube
Close but does not, so phantom flush was fixed.

It does depend on the type that you have . I generally make it a rule True always fully shut off the water valve regardless .
You may have the type of water valve that you have to pull to close and push to open. Mine are all like that and I had never seen that type before. My house was built in 2018.
1965 for mine. So I am working on changing out all the older Hardware.
Great video
Very helpful. Thank you.
Thanks! Just changed it !
why wont tank fill after flapper change. i turned valve right way
Is the rubber ring the flapper sit on clean? If the flapper does not sit tightly it can still drip.
What does the 99 stand for? 1999? I have one that says 30-***
To be honest I am not sure myself. I am sure it is some type of product number having to do with the size of the flapper and what model toilet it fits.
Thank you for the tutorial, easy to follow!
its a 3” large huh? that oem part link doesnt work
Thank you for letting me know. Here is a corrected link: gerberparts.com/collections/gerber-28-980-toilet-parts/products/ger-99-788
How in the world do I get flapper off? 😩
It should be an out and up movement on each side of the flapper.
Thanks a lot
Happy this was able to help you.
Thanks for the link!
Happy to help.
both times you addressed the flapper and the back peg you cut the vid. This area seems impossibly tight
It is pretty tight. It was very hard to do around the camera which is why there are cuts. I bumped the camera a lot, and there might have been some swearing.
Good video, thanks
you could've measured chain length according to old one before you installed.
That would have been the smart thing to do. Live and learn.
What's with the sandwich gloves? The cafeteria ladies wear those.
The bleach in the tank.
Thanks !!! Direct instructions. ek
Happy to help.
This man has zero wrinkles on his hands
Thank you...?
How can you tell through the gloves?
Blue tabs, safe for animals? Makes a lot of sense.
Thank you 😊

why are you wearing gloves? The water in the tank is clean water, except for a bit of rust.
In my case I had a bleach tab in the tank. So did not want to mess around with that with no gloves on.
Which is why your flapper as you called it went out. The chlorine ate the material.
@@jimdavidson5208 That's what he says in the video!
i use gain soap pods lol
👍👏👏👏
Step 1,2,3,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 and on you said step 3 twice and it is called a lever not a leever
The flapper lasted 4 years. What a low quality product. Didn’t even make it 5 years.
The Bleach tablet did not help.
