Hi Everyone. My son works for them and says these are the nicest people you will ever meet. They are such an example to my son and I want to thank them for being the so nice to not just to my son but my whole family.
This is just superb, I've been looking for "breeding quail for eggs" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Eeyila Rudimentary Expediency - (do a google search ) ? It is a smashing one of a kind product for discovering how to raise healthy and fertile quail minus the headache. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my work buddy got cool success with it.
You can cut the .5 x .5 inch mesh the size of your tubing feeder and place it inside (on top) your feeder to stop the quail from wasting food. They will be limited to a pecking instead of burrying their head in and food flying everywhere.
I just found out that the waiting list for my area for having chickens is 2 years, then I found out I am allowed to have quail and not have to wait im very excited for this...
@@UrbanAviary ive been trying for a year already now i do live in canada it dose get cold any sudgestions for that i cant do it in tge shed i already build a shop in their
+6Pack Journey I will try to have it out by Friday. Thanks for your feedback! Subcribe to my channel for an update of that video and let me know if there's anything else you'd like me to cover.
Hey, love your setup! You mentioned that your stocking density was a little higher than preferred, what is it in the two cages, and what is your goal density? Do you breed your own quail, or get eggs/chicks from someone else?
Thanks for commenting Chris! Each cage is about 2x3 feet, ideally I'd like to have 10-12 birds in each cage. Right now I have 20 per cage because I ended up having more hens than I anticipated, and the aviary is now home to some new chickens. So they have nowhere else to go. They all get along though and no one is fighting or hurting each other, so they will stay that way until I sell about 60 of them next month. I produce all my own eggs and incubate, hatch and brood all my birds. I started out by buying 100 chicks locally and built my flock from that.
Jaren this is such a useful video. I've learned things I hadn't with other videos. Thanks! I have 4 noisy dogs. Do you think that could affect the birds? The room where I'm planning to use is on dogs' way to play and so. It's an independent room but they've told me these birds are very nervous. Another concern I have is how long do they actually produce and live? Thanks on advance.
I haven't found them to be overly nervous, and I wouldn't worry about the dogs at all. They will live several years of taken care of properly, and produce for 2-3 years.
Jaren, okay really stupid question here but hoping to get your opinion since you've been doing this a while. I'm considering putting some quail in my garage here in Florida but I'm trying to figure out what the max temp should be for them. The garage isn't cooled so I'm trying to figure out how to keep them there through the hotter months without moving them outside or having to invest in putting AC in the garage. Thoughts?
With high humidity it's tougher. I would start with rotating frozen water bottles into their cages each morning. It gives them something cool to huddle against.
I used 2x3s for the sides and plywood for the bottom. If you watch my "Fun Farm Chores" video you can see exactly what they look like. I would suggest coating it with spray can truck bed liner from Harbor Freight to keep it from deteriorating. I will be going back and doing that in the future.
No problem! Panda film might work, so long as you don't use anything at all sharp like a paint scraper or even a windshield scraper like I use. A hand broom or something along those lines would suites that better for Panda Film. Thanks for watching!
I use a GQF 1202 cabinet incubator. You don't need anything that fancy, that's just what I had left over from years ago when we raised them for larger production. I'll be doing a video in the near future on the incubation process.
It's impossible to get away from the smell all together, but it can be mitigated by frequent cleaning and adding apple cider vinegar to their drinking water.
One rooster per four hens at least. Once you get past 1:8 fertility can decline. If you have too few hens, overmating can become an issue. This can lead to injury and death.

Amazing! Do you use the garage? Will the garage door scare them?

They should be just fine, as long as they are safe from the wind or getting wet
Great setup! Can you do another video going into detail on the how you made the cages and bins?

great set-up! can you give me the dimensions of the storage unit before adding cages? thanks.
Does your garage ever get too hot for them in the summer time?
What kind of lighting do u use?
I live in Texas and they say I have to have a license to raise quail. How much does quail eggs sale for? As well as the quail for? Thank you.

Thank you@@UrbanAviary !
What do you do about the heat in the summer? I am in Texas and wanting to raise them in the garage.
Shade and airflow are key to beating the heat! Give them both of those and you'll be good 90% of the time.
Are they white or dark meat? Which is the largest quail?
How do you keep the Smell down and the white dander/dust down? I have bob white in my detach garage
I add one tablespoon per gallon of apple cider vinegar "with the mother" to their drinking water.
Hey Jaren, what's the rough dimensions per cage unit you have there, and how many birds do you keep per cage?
+The White Dragon about 2 foot by 10 in if I recall correctly
What are the rules for light so quail keep egg production up? Do you use full spectrum lights or just leave garage light on?
Just the garage light, 14 hours a day is the rule
@@UrbanAviary ok great, thanks for the info
Would just christmas lights be enough?

Love it
awesome
In nys you have to have a class A game bird license for rasing and selling quail....everyone needs to check their locale laws
how did you build the poop trays?

thanks I saw it already, I was thinkingof using panda film held with spray adhesive but the bed liner idea maybe better.

HOW MANY MALES TO FEMALES SHOULD I HAVE I REALLY NEED THIS ANSWER.
