@Alex_Hayashi Honestly, you say it like that but if more people did MHA cosplay like Chris does his stuff, I wouldn't mind at all. Just imagine how much better these costumes would look with realistic hair, textured outfits, weathered components etc.
I'm actually suprised the chrome held up as well as it did. Adam Savage always says to use molotow chrome and alclad 2 sealer for a perfect chrome result, that's what I found to be the only thing working aswell. Love it man !
Brilliant! almost finished printing my armor. I live in Canada so I have the same problems with paint. Looking forward to air brushing. This project was so much bigger then I thought.
Graphite will resist the 2k, graphite looks good but will constantly need to be re-applied and buffed. It shows every oily fingerprint when you handle it. Graphite would be good for a show piece but not a cosplay wearable IMHO.
Chris this looks better than the $650 Anovos helmet. This is amazing work. The weathering is spot on. Teach me your ways. Well technically you just did. I am so happy that you didn’t use the screen used paint as now I feel like making this is sort of achievable (nvm it still isn’t, lol, I don’t have the skill)
That came out amazing, the reflection and texture especially! I'm planning on using this process on 3-D printed pieces, what tips would you all reccomend with application and prepping the 3-D prints?
might i suggest useing bakeing acetate plastic sheets and car windwo tint or tamiya clear colours for the visors on all helmets; the plastic can be cut with scissors and no heat gun needed to shape it
This is the Way Chris. Love the paint job on the Helmet can't wait to see the full cosplay with the Child in the baby knapsack and the Hawaiian shirts. Should defiantly have the Beskar Shoulder Pauldrons with the mudhorn signet on the one. you could apply the same airbrush method to both Pauldrons. Chris you are my favorite cosplayer in the whole world and i hope you have a great Halloween and what ever you do don't fall asleep. Stay Safe Be Silly and Always Remember Cosplayers Do it Best.
Hey man you should make the bow-parts on the Sides under the visor matt, just Like the screen used prop to achieve a bigger contrast. They also did it with the Vader mask back in the day.
I love this helmet chris made. Its the most authentic replica of mandos helmet ive seen in the entire internet. The paint job is phenomenal and he he even thought about the authentic cut out of the visor which does NOT go the entire helmet down. Would love to see him building the entire bescar armor from mando
I’ve noticed that people forget an important detail on the helmet, on those ear things the sides have a brighter “Y” shape or whatever it’s called. Is you look closely to a lot of images of the show you’ll see it.
Graphite is really great i used it on mine but you need to let the layers of paint UNDER it dry completely before application. Better than most metal spray laquers in my, humble opinion.
I have used Alclad Chrome for years while building Gundam Models. And I've found that there are very little top coats you can use on their chrome, where it won't either eat straight through it, or make dull. Which is why I decided to use something different on my Mando Helm.
@@3DRundown so I ended up using a Titanium color for AK. I wanted a bit of a darker shade, so I sprayed it over gloss black. And I think it looks great.
I think people are missing the point here. Let me explain. Chris makes tutorials, and in this tutorial he showed you how to paint the mantalorian helmet. Jack gave him counsel and a piece of knowledge that it took him years to discover and master, all through repetition and trial and error. Jackson is a true master at this craft and a really nice guy, if you ask him about anything he will give you a detailed explanation. For this specific techinque, we don't know, but he might want to release his own tutorials, whether it's here or under a paywall, and he is perfectly entitled to do so. Just because you watch tutorials on UA-cam for free, doesn't mean that everyone should reveal their secrets. I hope that clarifies.
This is pure restOfTheOwl shit here. Claiming that a key portion to this tutorial should be pay gated is toxic to the community. I'm not saying you should make and produce content for free, but doing a tutorial like this, including extra steps beyond what you show, does nothing for the watcher but hold up something that is no longer achievable. This is no longer a tutorial at this point, it's an ad for something you cant even buy. Frustrating that it made it not worth watching to the end.
7:52 I caught on to that one! 13:33 There's an early 1990's saying here in the 'States... "It ain't fun if the homies can't see none!" It looks great. I actualy envy you since you're about to go into summer down under. Sucks for me in the northern hemisphere. All that time of what should have been...
I have alumaluster and the Alclad 2 chrome. I can’t tell the difference when they are apart but next to each other, it is very close. The alclad is slightly lighter in tone
For anyone who wasn’t happy with keeping the clear coat part vague, I’m sorry but it’s out of respect to Jackson, who had to figure it out by trial and error. And by the way I worded it, it’s pretty clear on how to do it ☺️
Chris pretty much gave it away in the video but no worries at all. The trick is to just use light dust coats so the metal flake doesn’t move, and then one final wet coat to smooth it out. It will look hazy at first but once that final wet coat goes on it smooths over and shines right up.
@@danielc.8956 You don’t want to seal the weathering. You want the oils to stay matte and keep the glossy shine of the 2K on the main helmet. As long as you leave the oils alone to fully dry, they end up super durable.

Hope you enjoyed episode 1 season 2
How can I get a cast like this?
Dude! You would do a good Homelander!
Awesome tutorial Chris, and so entertaining! Can you post the link of where you got the helmet kit from? Thanks!
If Chris dyed his hair blonde he would make a great Homelander
Lol yea
Is he fan of The Boys, never see him talk about it, i never see him do R rated cosplay before
He should defo do it though
True
@@sodeiku He did the Crow. That's an R Rated film. And the Witcher is hardly family friendly.
I love it Chris it is definitely high quality. Hopefully hasbro sells one
I think they do. It’s definitely not a good one though.
They are making a Mando helmet. It just got revealed yesterday.
April 2021
For your chrome finishes, I suggest using Alclad II Lacquer Gloss Klear Kote ALC 310. it hasn't dulled the chrome finishes on any of my pieces.
Can't wait for all the Mando cosplays at Comic Con. Finally something different than My Hero Academia everywhere.

It did, but I don't like the texture in it. But maybe that's inevitable with spray cans.
@@ARFF1Tampa probably a crappie nozzle
Is it just me or does Chris look a lot like Anthony Starr? (Homelander)
I've said it before multiple times, chris should make a homelander cosplay, it would be awsome
Ye I can see the resemblance
Or does everyone look like Chris?????????????
He looks like Starlord from Guardians of the Galaxy
Chris, one day you should tackle a Deathstroke or even a gnarly looking Shredder!! Great job btw, completely nailed it!💥🤘
You had me by the intro, you should make the whole suit
I love how it makes your voice sound when you put it on too

Literally best replica ever
I cannot believe how good this looks

"It sticks like shit to a blanket" BUAHAHAHAH I died with that xD

This is a spicy boi indeed. Amazing video much love and honestly it looks Incredible
Alclad themselves make the best sealant for chrome that doesn’t dull it down.
Wow you totally nailed it!

Great video as always Chris

The best paint work on a Mando helmet. Great job!
I used that exact same lacquer. I didnt get half a good a shine as you did. Still happy with it though.

How do u seal it best? Im nearing the painting phase and am considering graphite rubbing it
You can’t seal it there in lies the problem with graphite, looks good until you handle it with oily fingers.
Alclad do a clear gloss lacquer that doesn't kill the chrome effect.

It only makes sense that because he made the dirty/oxidizing helmet, he does the suit from the first few episodes where he wears the brown Armor

What’s the point of a tutorial if one of the hardest achievements to accomplish is to seal the helmet the right way. Go figure...
@@juanbustamante5924 you’re not getting the point bud. I pretty much gave the clearest hint possible.
