WHAT IS HIGH GRADE STONE?
Anything you can run a 1/2" or more flake with a pressure flaker.
HEAT TREATING:
Heat treat a few FLAKES of everything you got except HIGH GRADE Raw Stone, Obsidian, Dacite, Basalt, Hornstone, Sonora, Fort Payne, or Rhyolite. Start with flakes and spalls less than 1" thick for 200°F for 24 hours to dry it out. Then raise the temp to 275°F and hold for 4 hours. Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back I at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 4 hours.
Let cool down for 12 hours. Chip and compare. If no difference, put back in at 200°F for 1/2 hour, then raise to 275 for 1/2 hour, then raise to 325 for 1/2 hour, the raise to 375 for 4 hours.
Repeat with temp going up 50°F until you reach 600°F or nice chippable stone. Whichever comes first. If no good result, or things blow up, let us know. - Навчання та стиль

This is how tackling spec work becomes a spec-tacle. (I apologize. As a non-native, I shouldn’t be making bad puns.) But on a serious note, one of the most fascinating thing for me thinking about how a specific knapper in prehistory actually thought about style, originality, etc. I am almost sure some cultures allowed only making the best possible copy of their ideal style, while others may have appreciated variety, originality, and creativity.

Cuz like a lot of people in the Americas traded good stuff like agate and jasper and obsidian and some chert with a lot of silica over really really long distances like thousands of miles

Abo vs modern tools, is a common talking point. I started out by hitting a rock with a rock though. Modern tool production is a subject that doesn’t include my backyard. That said some abo tools get better with use. Production of these tools is a process on both sides. I made my first copper sweatcap topped bopper today.

Im in a mental pickle here, im fixated on making points as sharp as possible to pierce big game, thinking it has to be really pointy or else it won't work but i keep seeing tips that are slightly rounded, chisel tips penetrating, Otzis arrowheads weren't perfect but he used them and i presume successfully... Then i was thinking about animal canine teeth and how they're not particularly sharp either....
So, i guess my question is, how pointy and sharp does a tip have to be to hunt with? To pierce fur covered skin?
It depends on the force behind the point. It's inversely proportional. The greater the force, the less sharp it needs to be and vice versa.

It's Green Bloodstone Jasper. Usually available in slab form because it's rare. Facebook and Etsy are the first two places I'd look. When I get it, it's always from friends, rock collectors, and fellow knappers. It can be heat treated. I think temps below 350°F are recommended.
