I want to do a shout-out to Mr John Tuttle, one of the oldest flint knappers in the hobby, and who is having health issues at the moment. He's thinking about retiring from UA-cam and the knapping art. He could use some prayers and encouragement. Thank you to everyone who answers this call. John is a national treasure!! Please check out his channel. It's John Tuttle Flint knapping I think. Have a blessed day!!
I love your channel, I also love your spirit. How do you stay happy? I watch you and problems fade. I wish I could be as happy as you. Keep speaking you have a lot of wisdom to share.Wampanoag-Blackfoot and Irish here,my Grandfather named me Tatonka. I can tell you’re indigenous.Much respect from Wampa and Blackfoot nation.
Thank you. I'm 1/8 indigenous and my ancestry is a wide European mix and "Pueblo" Indian. As for staying happy, you might not believe this, but I avoid eating all sugar and all carbs. This has changed my brain from a sack of bricks to a smooth running engine (most of the time 😉).
Honestly, I can't remember the last time I tried to buy any. The last time I bought several hundred shafts and still have a few to work through. Not sure how hard it is to come by these days.@@scottlaugher-flintknapping
There's a lot of those style points in Ohio fields. Commonly resharpened into hafted scrapers. Especially along the Auglaize river. The notches are pretty shallow and popped out from the edge.
Excellent video. Hitting the grain is a next level challenge for sure (im not tgere yet). Bravo on the crystal knapping one - lots of views 👏 yet this video is better. 😊
I hadn't thought of space for the glue. That should aid some, particularly with lateral stability. I always thought it was to aid in holding the point centered. If you carve the slot for the point with stone tools it's easier to cut at an angle rather than straight across. That naturally leaves a little protrusion that can sit into the notch. Saves some time and feels more solid. If you were using cane or pithy wood you could also use a small wedge.
Yes, this is certainly a possibility, but it adds a complication: not all central notches in the base are exactly centered, nor are they a consistent size or depth even among points of the same type.
So the points from the late prehistoric around here in Texas , would most of these be hunting or war ? The ones I find that are paper thin unifaced mostly are found with bison teeth in the Vicinity so would those be sufficient to bring down a bison regardless of grains ?
I've seen other studies of bison kill sites. Small points are often found there. Stone point penatration is base on friction more so than arrow weight. So smaller points have less friction. Bison hair binds around a stone point. So to big of a point on an arrow will hinder penatration
Old Stock HT's.... been awhile since you've been into those stores huh. Look forward to watching some of those. Im workin some Johnstone rt now. This newer toilet doesn't knap near as well as this blue toilet from the 70s. Way better material back then. Theres a video for you. Well nevermind leave the 💩🚽 🏹 for us newbies 😂😂😂

No Colorado???? Your breaking my heart Jack
Yet another fabulous miracle piece. Your ancestors would be very proud of you.
Like the video. Always liked the fish tail look. Great job and good content. 👍👍
for a 65# recurve I usually get the 25/64 in Port Orford Cedar. Smaller diameter in Larch or Sitka.
Yeah I've always used Port Orford here in England too. Shoots so sweet from a recurve. Was becoming hard to get though the last time we tried.
Honestly, I can't remember the last time I tried to buy any. The last time I bought several hundred shafts and still have a few to work through. Not sure how hard it is to come by these days.@@scottlaugher-flintknapping
Please make a playlist on your channel of you practicing with a bow and arrow and how much better you get!!!! Thanks for all the videos mr crafty!!!
Will do!
Great looking deadly hunting point.
Thanks
There's a lot of those style points in Ohio fields. Commonly resharpened into hafted scrapers. Especially along the Auglaize river. The notches are pretty shallow and popped out from the edge.
Interesting!
Excellent video. Hitting the grain is a next level challenge for sure (im not tgere yet). Bravo on the crystal knapping one - lots of views 👏 yet this video is better. 😊
Thanks 👍
I hadn't thought of space for the glue. That should aid some, particularly with lateral stability. I always thought it was to aid in holding the point centered. If you carve the slot for the point with stone tools it's easier to cut at an angle rather than straight across. That naturally leaves a little protrusion that can sit into the notch. Saves some time and feels more solid. If you were using cane or pithy wood you could also use a small wedge.
Yes, this is certainly a possibility, but it adds a complication: not all central notches in the base are exactly centered, nor are they a consistent size or depth even among points of the same type.
Hey Jack Crafty if you have the time could you do an in depth video on indirect percussion and the tools you use for indirect percussion?
Sure
Good morning Patrick ☕what is the weight of the bopper you started with?
1-5/8" diameter and about 9-1/2 ounces
Theres a diamond file brand thats upscale called johnson i think. Johnson diamond files. I think.
I'll look into it.
You ever knapp coral? Theres pure white coral if you are looking for very white stone.
Yes, I've knapped it. It's good stuff when it's free of voids. And very bright white sometimes, I agree.
😂
I think its funny that we have regulations now. When you look a real artifacts arrow heads are a lot smaller.
True. It makes you wonder who's making the decisions.
