5:05 When trying to answer the question “what’s the best creature I can imagine on the battlefield in a game of Commander?” Seth’s brain defaults to Mulldrifter. Never change, SaffronOlive.
I'm glad you guys put Circle of Land Druid at the end because it's perfect for my Stickfingers - Umori deck since I need more creatures that mill to fill out the deck.
The Candlekeep Sage background is just a common that sneaked by today, but it's one of the most powerful backgrounds. You draw a card every time your commander ETBs or LTBs, so each blink just straight up draws 2 cards. It's made for Abdel Adrian. A single target blink spell will let you draw 2 cards, get absurd value from your whole board, and make a bunch of 1/1s all at once.
Overall I really like the set, however as far as reprints go very disappointed...I thought for certain with the higher price tag on the Collector Boxes they would at least reprint Dockside Extortionist, but they didn't even do that...still a really nice set!
@@craiggentile313 I don't see it happening It's powerful obviously but it alters CEDH drastically and I know they are fighting hard to keep that balance even though they won't openly discuss it
The card I’m most hyped for is Illithid Harvester. I just built Hinata, and I already playing Icy Blast & Curse of the Swine, and I am very excited to slot that guy in as kind-of a second copy of both
using wild magic surge as enchantment removal seems particularly risky to me, thing is unlike other card types like creatures and artifacts where mana rocks and low mana value creatures are a likely possibility, most decks run very few but powerful enchantments, just one look at my decks shows me having only like 3-4 enchantments on average, all literally must destroy threats. A prime example is my token deck that has 3 enchantments; parallel lives, anointed procession, and cathars' crusade, you would likely regret targeting any of these with wild magic surge just for me to get another one of them.
I think sculpting sunburst is at least interesting in a deck with a commander that has low power, so it would really limit your opponents choices for which creatures stay, but even then I think I might just rather play farewell over this. However, in those decks I do think it’s at least in the conversation
Hope you enjoy Richmond I live about 5 minutes from where command fest is hosted at. You should try cobra burger and hof garden if youre looking for some awesome food!
First build will likely be Neera + Displacer Kitten + cards like Polymorph & Transmogrify and things that either create or become creatures, and trying to keep it all in a budget. I was hoping for more horrors to go with the new Captain Nghathrod, but that will have to wait I guess.
The way sculpted sunburst is worded I don't think the creature can be removed after being chosen. The card says choose not to target. I do not think choose goes on the stack just part of casting the card.
I agree about the poor reprint value but even giving them the credit for the land reprints keep in mind that the enemy cycle of battle lands was printed for the first time in commander legends so it’s pretty equal. Also mana confluence was the buy a box which was pretty good value
I personally really like the set. The lack of a large number of reprints is unfortunate, but the land reprints are nice. I like that the set appears overall toned down when compared to Commander Legends. They focused much more on producing a strong limited environment and were careful to not print any Hullbreachers. I am most excited to transition my Temur, Intet the Dreamer dragon tribal deck into Gruul. I know we got the cool new Temur dragon (Miirym), but I actually think the combo of Ganax+Acolyte of Bahamut is really strong. Definitely can't wait to try it out.
Its appears alot of the sets most powerful cards are in the precons and the collector boosters precon extended art slot. Look up Black Market Connections for example, imgine if Phyrexian Arena ate Treasure Trove and whatever enchantment that makes 2/3 Shapeshifters with changeling. New black staple.
@@gyorgyor7765 Guided Bolt at least seems like a card one wouldn't be surprised to see. Cut a Deal directly comes off as an answer to the "white is bad in EDH" narrative.
I must not ever play in high power commander games, because every time Seth says something like "8 turns is too slow, your Commander game is not going to run that long" I think about most every game I play running 10-15 turns easily.
The set definitely has some cool legends that I'm interested in trying, but I agree with the general disappointment with regards to reprints. That said, I missed out on OG Commander Legends limited, so I'm looking forward to trying it out with this set.
We're not ignoring it, it's really cool. The problem is that it's SO far from enough. Compare a single $20 card to the reprints we got from Commander Legends 1
Bah. If not for that "activate only as a sorcery" clause on Basilisk Gate, it would have been bonkers in my Tetsuko Umezawa Fugitive deck. I'll have to settle for my Stinkdrinkers and Facetakers.
That’s what I was thinking. The box says counters equal to the results and the roll extra dice just say you ignore one but to me that sounds like it would still have a result to trigger the box but you’re just ignoring one for the sake of the result against what you’re rolling for.
All of these green and red initiative cards are going straight into Saskia EDH. Dnd deck all the way. Also, this set looks great but I think its falling victim to consumer demands/concerns at this moment. We need reprints and with prices going higher with fewer high price tag reprints especially for Commander, i imagine Wizards is awaiting some angry feedback for a set that was designed years ago.
Hey, quick question - I enjoyed your "Rough Drafts" series in the past, but can't seem to find any recent videos on that. Are you currently not doing videos in that format?
I am looking forward to the set how ever i am disappointed with the pricetag in connection with the reprints i was expecting more commander staples there isn’t even a sol ring in the set. If i am not missing something.
Thank goodness that Sol Ring isn't in this set. a) It's reprinted in literally every precon, and b) Sol Ring would absolutely destroy the limited environment, which is what they designed the set mostly for.
As a dragon player the green dragon is kinda meh in them. Dragons are already powerful enough to where you don't need extra power although I build mine very different. I do agree it's great in a +1 +1 counter deck. However the rest of the elder dragons are bonkers.
Then let me introduce you to "Gorion, Wise Mentor". He was spoiled pretty early on so it was easy to miss, but he is definitely the legendary adventure commander. Unless you were looking forward to a legendary creature that also had the adventure mechanic on it? Then no, they didn't make one.
@@TheBalogna7 except he's not a legendary adventure? They did one for the special cards they make for employees, it was even made with commander in mind and was a really cool design. It's a really interesting design I find it weird that they don't explore it, especially since the chances of us getting another set with adventures are super slim.
Seth, CL 1 didn't have "solid land reprints" because it gave us solid original lands to finish the battlebond cycle. Btw, I have a feeling the CL 1 lands will see a reprint in battlebond 2 whenever that is going to happen.
yeah I don't think puzzle box works that way, the card adds the mana value to the result to check for its effect, but the box also refers to the result which I think would remain as whatever you rolled.
Sculpted sunburst is much better than the other wipes that leave a creature around because you can play it in a deck like Narset where her power is 3 so only real small creatures are left and still have your engine. (Thasios would like it too.)
I genuinely think this is by far the worst set I’ve seen in my time playing edh since I started during War of the Spark. The reprints are trash and this set feels weak compared to both Commander Legends 1 and even weak compared to Adventures In the Forgotten Realms. There’s no excuse for it. Archivist of Oghma is the only good card aside from the land reprints.
Not everyone has a group like commander clash that’s happy to make deals for 2 free cards. I’m sure all the secret rendezvous type cards like “Your temple is under attack” have their places, just not any I play with.
Secret rendezvous is garbage, no player has to do a player a favor and they still have to give players cards. I tried this card several several times since it came out, even have a white knight(title) deck that it’s only alright in, and the point of that deck is only helping other players to get an interesting game state. I have consistently had the table agree to either help the other player I choose in order to kill me, sometimes promise they won’t even touch them until I’m dead, sometimes they end up being a person stabbing me in the back, or simply no one making a deal makes me yet have to help someone with no benefit. In my experience there normally isn’t someone far enough behind this doesn’t help them more than me, and has actively pissed people off when I didn’t choose them. Glad that garbage works for you guys tho in your four player group that has little variance in play style between players(your decks are always different tbf ) and can consistently use your relationships with each other to often make plays that might not be optimal work out for the best, but that’s not my nor my friends experience. Worst secret rendezvous experience was when it got narset reversaled in my face by the person I chose, and they chose someone else to draw with their copy, just to be funny. Then when it got back to me I still had to cast to draw, so I chose a different person, but they used wild ricochet to steal it and copy it, and, I repeat to be funny, they didn’t let me draw even tho I was in last place. Go figure we both lost that game… White card draw now is too good for me to waste it on secret rendezvous, it’s only good if you have something to steal the draw or stifle it. IMO.
I have had it work out a couple of times as I said when I had decks that wanted my opponent to draw, but it has never been nearly as alright as it is bad when considering the amount of times I’ve used it. Card is a 3 out of 10

The most liked thing from the last D&Dset was the dungeon modules missing those
