- On Friday, September 15, I took a day trip to St. Mary’s Cemetery in Trenton, NJ to visit the grave of Maury Muehleusen who played guitar with Jim Croce. Sadly, their lives would be cut short. On Thursday, September 20, 1973, they were in Natchitoches, Louisiana performing a concert at Northwestern State University. Their entourage- Robert N. Elliot the pilot, Muehleisen, Croce, comedian George Stevens who was the opening act, Croce's road manager Dennis Rast, and Croce's manager and booking agent Kenneth D. Cortose, all arrived by a small chartered plane. Less than an hour after the concert, the plane crashed at 10:45 p.m. as it was taking off for the next concert in Sherman, Texas. Everyone on board the plane was killed instantly. Muehleisen was only 24 years old. I had already been to Jim Croce’s grave and have been want to go see Maury. I was so glad I finally got to do that on Friday, September 15. I hope that you enjoy this vlog ✌️

thank you for keeping the memory of maury alive.
My pleasure, and thank you for watching and commenting ✌️
Maury’s guitar playing and Jim Croce’s songwriting and singing is some of the very best music ever made. My nephew told me that Jelly Roll was recently on Joe Rogan’s podcast and they talked about Maury and Jim’s music and they both started crying.
I totally agree! I’m going to see if I can find that podcast you mentioned, I’d like to hear it. Thanks for your comment! ✌️
Beautiful doc. My wife and saw just saw AJ Croce's show wherein he played alot of Jim's tunes. Wonderful. Jim was indeed sui generis
I’ve been wanting to see AJ , I heard he is really good in concert, his shows sell out. I hope to stay at Jim’s farmhouse someday. Jim and Maury were great together, gone way too soon, but their music lives on. Thanks for watching ✌️
Thank you very much for uploading. What a sad story, specially for all that loved their music.
Jim and Maury were great together, they really complemented each other. It is a sad and tragic story. Thank you for watching and commenting, Manfred ✌️
World class and underrated!
You’re absolutely right!
Love this, great job. The everyday folks dont realize what a huge part Maury was to Jim's sound. Together they were magic. Their music is timeless..
I totally agree, Jack, together they were magic. I feel that Maury doesn’t get his due, as he should. He and Jim complemented each other with their vocals and guitar playing. Thanks for your comment!! ✌️
❤ Maury is my love. This was a great video.
Thank you Gingerbreadd (love your YT name!) I appreciate you watching and commenting. Jim and Maury’s music lives on and will not be forgotten ✌️
Very entertaining and informative🫶🏻
Thank you, Riot Grrrl ✌️
Jim made Maury, but Maury made Jim. Together, they made magic. I will never forget being alone driving early one morning when the radio DJ broke the news of their plane crash and deaths. I pulled over and wept.
I agree with you completely, Alan. Jim and Maury complimented each other with their song writing, their guitar playing and their harmonies. I was only 12 when they died, but I remember the day. I already had a couple of Jim’s LP’s that I got through Columbia House, remember them? I also watched them on the Midnight Special. Such a shame, both were so young. Their music will live on forever. Thanks for watching and commenting, I appreciate it!✌️
Beautiful Ohmage Pete!
We got the DIME in our hearts...Thanks Maury & Jim...
Thank you , Barney!
I learn so much from your vlogs. Just another example. Thanks so much, Pete.
I appreciate that, Mary, thank you. I also learn a lot by making them.
❤
Great vlog! I never knew who died on that plane with Jim. I'm definitely going to watch some Croce videos and pay attention to Maury!
Check out the UA-cam Midnight Special channel, they’re releasing the full shows in order. Two weeks ago the posted the show that Jim Croce hosted in June of 1973. He and Maury were in top form. Also, seeing Jim with Wolfman Jack is priceless. Thanks Walt ✌️
May be one of the nicest places in Trenton. Cemetery is huge
That cemetery was pretty big, very nice too. Maury’s grave wasn’t hard to find at all. Thanks for your comment! ✌️
If you listen to Maury's album Gingerbread, you will hear his influence on Jim.
Jim was the street fighter, Maury was the lover. As Dave VonRonk sang "He was a friend of mine"
I agree with you, Maury was the lover, and his Gingerbreadd album is so good! Thanks, Earl! ✌️
@@beatlepete I hear some Gordon Lightfoot and John Denver on a few songs
@@earllsimmins9373 I hear that, too. FYI: Jim and Maury will be on the latest episode of the Midnight Special this Saturday on their UA-cam channel. Sadly, it would be their last appearance. And if you missed it, check out episode 20 that they were on that Jim hosted. It’s great, they both complement each other so well.
Pronounced Mule-heisen. Maury was awesome.
Interesting vlog, Pete. You definitely went some distance for this one. When you mentioned your new subscribers, the name Kevin Ewing rang a bell. Is it Father Kevin? If so, he grew up in our parish and we went to his ordination.
Last Friday the weather was beautiful so I enjoyed the day trip. Besides, I love driving , and seeing Maury’s grave was something I’ve been wanting to do. I’m not sure if Kevin is a priest, he just recently subscribed and commented on one of the Port Deposit vlogs that I did. Thanks, Jean ✌️
I almost didn't watch this because I thought it would bore me. It didn't. It was a nice, gentle video about someone I had never heard of until tonight. I had heard of Jim Croce, who hasn't? But learning about Maury Muehleisen was good. Listening to him working with Jim Croce was better. Thanks mate!
I’m glad that you enjoyed it and found it interesting. Maury is so underrated, I wanted to give him his due. I just posted a video for Jim’s 81st birthday which is today, check it out. Thanks, Tony ✌️
What's your brother doing now a days? Been years since I saw him. Thanks
He has been dealing with some back pain, but he’s hanging in there and doing OK. I’ll tell him you that you asked about him.
Thanks Pete. Glad he's ok. He had a crush on me back then. A handsome, kind, shy, sweet boy I will never forget. Thanks again.
