The closest match I've found is kumquats, but theY are hard to juice. If you can have lemon, then for 2oz of grapefruit, you could try 1 3/4 oz of lemon juice, and a 1/4 oz of Campari. It's not a perfect match, but it gets close to the same acid and bitterness of grapefruit. Getting away from citrus I've also heard of juicing rhubarb as a substitute, but haven't tried it. And it's possible that some grapefruit sodas would be 100% artificial flavor,. I know Squirt and Jarritos both contain juice.

I've had to learn the hard way that just because I can carbonate anything... doesn't mean just ANYTHING should be carbonated.
