This is the first ship in Star Wars that has me drooling over how beautifully designed it is since I saw the Venator Class Star Destroyer for the first time.
Someone using a jedi code does not mean they are a jedi or even force sensitive. My guess is: the captain assumed someone without any ability to use the force stumbled over that old code and tried to use it in order to swindle the republic. Which (considering how rare trained force users are in that period) probably would have been correct at least 9 out of 10 times. The security detail would have been sufficient to detain any imposters pretending to be jedi.
Considering he was carrying an important prisoner, this security detail wasn't enough. That ship could have carried an elite team or be full of regular soldiers. It could fire any weapons, which might be hidden, it has inside his ship or, as mentioned in the video, it could even be a bomb. This could have been anything, from a prank, to someone wanting to free his prisoner to someone who wants her dead. He should have 1. Ignored them and reported this encounter to fleet command or 2. deploy a fighter screen and send a security detail over to check it out while keeping his distance.
Unless they were Imperial-sympathizing suicide bombers, or a shuttle sent by a pirate group with a huge ion bomb to make the ship inoperable, or any of a thousand scenarios which would make it absolutely unacceptable for a random civilian ship with ancient access codes to be allowed to dock within a warship. It’s hard to imagine a scenario where it would be OK to do what this captain did.
the ship feels like the kind of ship you drop into a sector to deter pirates by sending out squadrons of fighters on patrol who appear above a world with little warning from a mobile base
Yes. It also optimizes the continued use of all the fighters the Rebellion had. The total package here is one smallish new build vessel and a slew of probably existing fighters, with the bulk of the personnel carrying on jobs like they had under the Rebellion (or in some cases, the Empire).
I like that as a concept, but would it be too much to ask for just a LITTLE direct firepower? I get that it's never meant to slug it out with Victory and Imperial SDs, or even Arquitens, but at least enough to take on a Marauder or Vigil-class without having to scramble fighters should be the bare minimum!
I don't know if you've ever played the old game echo the dolphin but let me tell you squids and dolphins have a history going back thousands of years... Eventually they'd evolve back in the crabs and crustacean somehow which makes no sense but best not to think about that c; In all seriousness that game gets very interesting is not just a little dolphin game...
One thing that occurs to me about New Republic demilitarization is that this would be *very* bad for major shipyard systems (Corellia, Kuat, etc.) and the Senate might have had to agree to acquiring new ships or else face a collapse of their shipbuilding industry. But, not wanting to get sucked into the expense black hole of the ISDs and MC-80's, they came up with a smaller design that would have the additional advantage of visually distinguishing the NR fleet from the Imperial fleet. Smaller, friendlier, warships.
Honestly when you consider the "Light freight" class of starship which are readily weaponizeable, it would really make sense for large Republic vessels to be built around a modular chassis. Strip away the armor and guns and rearrange some bulk heads na interiors space and they can be transporter cargo ships works. It may not be the most robust of war fighters, but for peacekeeping forces, you want cheap efficient systems for exerting pressure, nit overt miliary action. The more a particular frame is produced, the cheaper it is to build and maintain.
Lol "smaller friendlier warships". I can actually hear them pitching it that way. Agreed about the Shipyards, the NR would have had to always plan to keep them grooving along for the noted and many other reasons. Switching to smaller, lighter (and friendlier) ships would be a win for everyone. The yards get many more fast, simple builds, improving ease of construction, dock availability, plus a smaller but much steadier income stream. (Smaller paycheck everyday, vs one big one a year) The NR gets all the good stuff noted here and in the vid.
@granatmof I get where you're coming from on this, but even trying to be "demilitirized" they would have to keep a first tier response available. I'm kinda thinking of the whole yhevetha story arc. The folks who are going to get thrown into the blender are going to demand some kind of professional option. But the politicians are going to try to keep it as small as possible to try to stay on message. So a big fleet of small ships is a good compromise. Though the modular idea would be great to pitch to systems etc. They could have a standing fleet of ships that could swing between coast guard, q ship, and in downtime and emergency be turned into liberty/relief ships. Plus the yards would no doubt be happy to sell a "mini-refit" station to help switch modes. Always gotta upsell lol
"Smaller ,Friendlier ships " Exactly what The Chimera would need for snacks after a long break before going after Home one and nebulas and starhawks ,you know the actual breakfast , lunch and Dinner
@@sumukhvmrsat6347 - The Chimera is just an Impstar-Deuce, not some kind of amazing and special ship. Thrawn's strategic acumen is what made it formidable, not the ship itself. Even he couldn't prevent it from being trashed and carried away by Purrgils!
I confess the New Republic's behavior in this show and in the last season of The Mandolorian really burned my biscuits. Partly because it's such a contrast to what the Rebellion was, and partly because I have this feeling like we're barreling towards the Sequel Trilogy and that is kind of hard to take.
No matter the comments that justify it as being plausible, it wasn't until it had to be because of the premise set up in The Force Awakens. Because it really doesn't make sense in where it was left off
@@GenerationTech it would have been nice if they brought it into the films. Every Imperial that commanded a star destroyer feared them because those ship had a heavy amount of weapons for their size. But they were lightly armored and could easily be destroyed by a single bombing run.
I figured it was Mon Calamari engineered, just modified internally to suit mostly human and near-human crews. And/or the New Republic likes curves in their ships to distinguish them from Imperial gear.
mc30c type, if it had a love child with some of the CIS capitals involved... the design isnt just good... but it has that level of overkill there. im not seeing too much on it. but this makes everything prior look bad.... even the starhawk may not be capable of keeping up. this thing is odd, but damn good, and ill go with scary. starship vs with this, and alot... we need exacts... good video on this!!! this is a lean boxer... isd 2 wouldnt stand against it, if manned to full... it looks to quick. It may have the overlapping shields, but it still seems too small... but swol??? hrmph. some of that may just be extra plating... but this is rather brutal by design. dont get me wrong... i do not think she is wasting any space.... sorry to rant, but its good and terrifying all at once.
@@jeffengel2607 early Mon Calamari capital ships that were used by the rebels could only be used by the Mon Calamari people. After the battle of Endor and when the Rebellion started to construct dedicated warships, they created those ships to be piloted by just about any species in the galaxy, like humans. Models like the MC80B and the MC90 star cruisers are two such warships.
Worst thing is they might copy the appearance but then it would be just as useful as disney's regular ISDs and it would be rammed by some weird shaped corvette or something💀
The Nebula-class was cool, but I personally love the design of the Nadiri Starhawk-class Battleship. Something that's not just another Star Destroyer analog
On tie fighters, my theory was that the Empire did not trust its pilots. If they had warp capable ships, then they could steal the ships. If you deploy the tie fighters, you know they will defend the Star Destroyer with their life, as it is there only trip home. Also, being a big corporation, the Empire went for quantity over quality.
@Nametaken42069 well, that makes sense since the pilots can pilot ships other than tie fighters, whereas stormtroopers are shown to not be trained to pilot ships at all apparently.
@@Inactive_Account29283well that and the Stormtrooper Corps was more or less like the Fedayeen Sadam -- fanatically loyal to the Empire, but the Emperor above all, and would not surrender (mostly) let alone desert
It's not a question of trust but a doctrine and intended use - TIE fighter is a very capable craft despite how they show in movies. Yes they do lack shields but shields are not a game changer on starfighter in SW universe - x-wing's shields can hold for 1-2 seconds under fire from a single TIE fighter. Shields do provide a better survivability but only against light flack or random shots. You should also consider that after end of clone wars there were no manor armed conflicts of such scale for several generations. Rebellion posed a terrorist treat and was not easy to find, but not an enemy in direct confrontation. 99% of empire navy have never seen a single rebel and were doing patrol, peace keeping and anti-piracy activities in millions of worlds across the galaxy. In most anything more than a TIE was just an overkill and as result just wase of money for empire. And empire added more capable crafts as rebellion treat increased. TIEi, TIEa, TIE defender and many more. Most of them were plain better than rebel alternatives in each and any aspect
I can totally see the New Republic going from a battle hardened military power to a limp one. Most of Europe quickly made that transformation after the end of the cold war. The military was cut down in manpower, material and training. Old personnel and leaders either adapted or were replaced. The doctrine was changed from being ready for battle to just maintaining the little force that remained, representative and policing duties.
The biggest reason for that is the 'End of History' memetic hazard that showed up during the '90s. In addition to that, there was no real reason (at the time) to keep Cold War-level military budgets. The thing is that military budgets tend to be economically reductive, not economically productive, especially when the Big Bad it was aimed at vanishes to the either.
@@TheTrueAdept I'm not saying that it was a bad policy. Just that a battle hardened military turning into a weak peace time army within a few years is nothing out of the ordinary.
And the enemy adapted to that policy. Instead of having a presence that anyone can point towards and say "hey we need a military", they just look fractured and stayed in hiding. Agents joined up with the New Republic acting as spies and secret recruiters as well as provide disinformation. I think one of my favorite bit of lore was when Leia was running for office it was leaked that Vader was her daddy. That basically killed her chances in office.
But even in Contemporary Europe it took decades of declining budgets and contentious procurement programs that resulted in no new weapon systems. It was only when a threat appeared that everyone realized how unprepared they had become. However Western Europe or NATO Europe would be more akin to system defense fleets in Star Wars. They're not really intended for global or galactic force projection, just regional projection. Europe is backed by the US much like local systems should be backed by the New Republic. The New Republic should be focused on sector security systems and equiping local systems to be able to hold off for so long before Reinforcements arrive. Essentially democratizing the military. And usi g the US as an example, there's numerous military bases across the US which have no military influence with local cities. Having clear distinctions that military cannot be used to enforce civilian law is a very clear step that the New Republic Lacks.
@@TheTrueAdeptYep. The End of History meme was all it took for centrist liberals to ignore the possibility of the fascists coming back with a vengeance.
I really like this ship design. I think it looks like the opposite of a Star Destroyer: instead of being aggressive and sharp, it's peaceful and round.
And in conjunction with that it has a lot of greebling on the top of the ship along the spine, drawing the faintest similarity to those seen on the sides of Imperial class Star Destroyers and the spines of Executor class Star Dreadnaughts.
@@rawhidelamp IDK, the term "dwarfed" sounds like it applies if the thing being dwarfed is half as big (or smaller) as the thing it's being dwarfed by.
Brother your channel is killing it right now. Has been for a while. Glad you are here to enlighten us with your insights. FYI I'm 51 years old been a fan since I was 5 years old in 1977. Loving Star Wars right now.
For me I loved that moment with the arrogant captain (and all the moments that show the mentality of the new republic), as it ties in well into that "head-canon" me and some of my friends use regarding the recay of the New Republic. The eagerness of the Republic to believe that they have moved on from the war and Imperial rule, but in reality we see that the New Republic seems to be set-up to fail despite the rebellion against the Empire was succesfull. It brings a very interesting dynamic to the Star Wars world that we see new content in at the moment as the types of stories it helps facilitate. I look forward to seeing the "core" of the Rebellion to be branded warmongers and criminals by the New Republic, as they are treated as "the boy who cried wolf" too many times. Also, thanks for making your content, I truly enjoy all you put out there!
Most people in the New Republic were not rebels. They made lives under the Empire - maybe not comfortably, maybe not with enthusiasm or real loyalty, but they chose to live under it rather than rebel. Every time a former rebel goes on about Imperial threats it's a reminder that those bystanders were wrong - or they can instead believe the former rebel is an alarmist. The latter is a lot more comfortable as a mindset.
I mean, if you look at real life, the parallels are there. We jumped from one world war right to the next, swore the second one would be last, and fast forward 80 years and a shit ton of smaller proxy wars to now where we are arguably on the verge of another possible world war. We just don't have cool space ships and laser swords.
It's not even "head canon". Both in Legends and the new canon, the New Republic had a tendency towards complacency due to civilian politicians who, as you say, wanted to pretend that the wars were over and that the galaxy just wanted peace. Then there were secret Imperials among their ranks, including in the Senate. Ahsoka showcases this with the allegedly New Republic shipyards on Corellia being run by Imperial loyalists who wear NR lapel pins even as they facilitate the theft of assets. Senator Xiono seemed oddly uncurious as to why anybody would want to steal SSD hyperdrive cores when the NR is not building ships that big. If he were logical (or not getting bribed by the Imperial Remnant) then logic would lead to asking *who* needs SSD hyperdrives and *what* kind of ships do they want them for?
And its realistic aswell, you can ask people down here in latin america what happened after the cold war dictatorships; the responsibles are still here, they never changed and are still mostly unpunished, heck, in particular cases, even more powerful now than before
@@laxcatthesleepycat2688 - Vladimir Putin still waxes nostalgic about the USSR more than three decades after it collapsed. People don't just abandon things they believe in because they're reduced in significance. Anybody following New Republic politics knows about the demilitarization efforts underway. So the Imperial Remnant knows that so long as they don't present an obvious threat to validate the warnings of people like Leia, then the new Senate will do their best to pretend that the galaxy is at peace. Which gives the Imperials time to rearm.
I've always been fascinated by Star Wars spacecraft. This vessel seemed to be a much smarter choice when it comes to patrol duties. This would allow the new republic to spread out in ways the Empire couldn't imagine to do. That said, the Republic would still need to possess heavier hitters to help deal with rogue star destroyers. They would also need smaller patrol vessels in order to spread their peace keeping roles. Kind of like the fan made B wing patrol ship.
You're right, but I also think that part of the Empire's plan was 'make work'. If people are getting paid, while also being housed and fed, they're more docile.
I honestly feel like this ship could take a lone star destroyer. Not by itself, but in conjunction with its fighter compliment. The Rebel Alliance built their naval tactics around their starfighters. It was out of necessity due to their lack of capital ships, but it made them very good at taking down very large targets with well-coordinated starfighter attacks. This cruiser has multiple hangers, so probably has 3 or 4 starfighter squadrons on board. Deploy them against the star destroyer while the ship itself lays down covering fire and draws the fire of the star destroyer away from the fighters.
@@Engine33Truck *starts laughing hysterically* No. A VSD alone has the power to 1v1 this ship. This kind of fight is what a Star Destroyer is built for. Standing its ground and slugging it out with an equal. Making itself 'bait' won't work because this is the kind of target a VSD or even an ISD would eagerly chew up and spit out. Not to mention and VSD would be able to easily match the NR fighter compliment with an equal number of TIEs to screen the VSD while it goes after the 'bait' ship. An ISD would be able to almost double up on them. So unless this thing is bristling with enough guns that it would go against the NR's 'more peaceful friendlier' doctrine, it will NOT win in a fight against a lone Star Destroyer. It would actually require them to gang up on a lone Star Destroyer and at least a fourth of each of their fighter compliment would have be Y-wing bombers. This ship as described is the NR's version of a Quasar Light Carrier. It has no business attacking anything heavier than a heavy frigate. A category that both Victory and certainly Imperial Class Star Destroyers fall WELL outside of.
Dude, they were being hailed by an old DIPLOMATIC shuttle with two people on board. With almost all of the Jedi gone (trillions of beings never having seen one or heard anything other than legends about them) the Captain made a completely rational assumption that his entire frigate's crew could handle a couple of Imperial hold-outs. "No one expects the Spanish Inquistion!" Or Dark Jedi who could take on hundreds of guys with blasters with their glowsticks.
Did I have a stroke or did I hear this right? "...Civic buildings underwater I mean for the porpoise of this war don't get me..." well played, well played.
12:39 "We don't even see any weapon emplacements..." 12:54 Shows us 4 weapon emplacements... they're just *very* small. So the ship has at least 4 point defense turrets, around the space traffic control tower.
9:29 I'm not sure if the crew is as big as you are suggesting. The 2 dark jedi are said to have killed half the security detail when they exited the hangar, which suggests that there were only a couple dozen troopers on board. When you account for the fact that there were few other personnel but guards, it seems that these cruisers have very small crew sizes, probably more akin to a fairly large corvette like the CR-90s then a Nebulon cruiser.
@@TatsumiyaLightning True lol. But you'd think that the New Republic would have lots of droid security on board at least like in the Mandalorian if they were worried about organic crew size.
@@TatsumiyaLightning The idea that SW ships have particularly 'large' crews is such a comically funny display of why 99% of people who accuse sci-fi authors of having no sense of scale are bald faced hypocrites.
what I love about this new ship is that it looks like a 'democracy.' Each part has an aesthetic from a different alliance group - it looks like it's had it's fair share of compromise
this is giving me a blend of Mon Cala designs from the sleek hull and engines and a star destroyers wedge on top of it that gives that psychological effect. i love it
2:15 To be fair the Rebels heavily relied on special forces to win their battles, their actual foot soldiers were crap. Most of the troops we see in action during the movies have some sort of special status among the Rebels for different reasons, whether it be the Marines in Rogue One, Alderaanian royal guards in episode 4, rebel special forces in episode 5 and the pathfinders in episode 6 and in Rogue One. I am surprised we are still seeing many Mon Calamari in the fleet considering that they create a home defence fleet during this period. In fact that could explain the creation of these new hybrid cruisers, because the Mon Calamari are probably busy reorganising their own star cruisers and are probably still in the early stages of designing larger vessels we see in the Sequels, so they have provided a temporary design to keep the peace.
The design is not only based on the old concept art but seems to be related or at least redesigned from the mc-30 missile Cruiser heavily featured in the tabletop games Star Wars Armada in which that ship was also based on the same concept art. So until they come up with a name I'm going to assume it's an mc-30

Shilling? You mean his adds? Yeah adds suck, but the man needs to pay his team and keep the lights on. I've done editing in the past on videos before UA-cam was a thing, and not for free. I'm still giving him credit for that and being a good business man.
Face on this ship has a smaller engine profile than usual. Engines are safe and so are the hangers. This ship is effective in a fight as it can focus shields in the front and focus it's real ability on the skirmish with many light craft.
I've seen a lot of sources put the Home One type at over 3km, which would size these up considerably. Though of course with Mon Cal ships the size was always kind of unique.
Or one beam with fast altering directions, push and pull altering at the second or milisecon intervals. That should put on enough stress on any material to rip it appart. Alternativly, maybe rotate the beam so its like a screw boring into the targets hull.
That's the Home One. I know it currently says 1300 meters, but back in the day it was considered to be longer than a Star Destroyer, being the rebel flagship. In return of the Jedi, as the fighters and craft fly past it before it jumps to hyperspace it was demonstrably longer than any other Rebel ship in the fleet that fought at Endor. That aside, lets accept that it is 1300 meters, the new ships don't look 1/3rd, they look about 1/2. Perspective matters. That makes them about 600m.
Looks like it at least has 4, maybe 5 weapon turrets around the air control tower. they aren't big though, so I'd assume they were more for AA than ship-to-ship fire.
Lmao. Alan, that intro bit about the Mon Calamari was freakin' hilarious. And this is why I LOVE your channel. Keep up the great work, Master Content Creator.
That MonCal cruiser your comparing to is clearly the HomeOne, who's size is highly disputed with some estimates putting it 3x longer then an ISD. A size extrapolation from the windows on the new ship would be far more reliable and in my opinion will yield a length of atleast 600m.
Agreed, especially since it appears to dwarf the 300m long Nebulon-bs in the fleet shots we've got so far. Assuming Mon Cala ship designations are structured MC(number representing reactor output)(letter designation for military built ship class), and that this is a Non Cala design, I'm tempted to call this an MC60b medium cruiser until we learn more.
When I first saw the captain and crew, I thought this was some NR ship out on a leisurely patrol that the sith were going to raid for intel. When I realized it was a prisoner transfer ship, I was flabbergasted. I know it's just for plot reasons, but seeing the captain act the way he was is a total facepalm moment for me. He did the equivalent of stopping your prisoner van because someone in a shoddy CIA uniform was holding out their thumb, and then letting them aboard without even asking their name.
He also come in the hangar with a full security details fully knowing that they were fraud and ready to arrest them and interrogate them later...unfortunely they were really force wielder (an extreme rarity at the time, really there are probably a dozen of them in the entire galaxy so in all honestly the captain reaction has been pretty much normal), so while arrogant it was also prudent enoung to go there prepared and his action will be enough in all normal circumstance
it actually makes sense the New Republic would have a rocky start. Lots of empire loyalists remain. Lots of worlds to establish order in with few Alliance personnel built up thus far. lots of corruption to route out.
I think the ship is heavily more armed than its predecessors and improvement to MC-80 cruisers. I'm betting when the official stats come out most of the ships turbo lasers and anti-starfighter weapons are recessed.
I imagine they trashed the ship and for good measure flew around and shot it up for no reason 😂 complete dickhead move. Like why is there carbon scoring on the outside.
at 12:17 you can see 4 gun emplacements around the ATC tower. So it isn't entirely defenseless however anywhere else that gets attacked is going to be vulnerable.
I still maintain that disney shot themselves in the foot by setting the sequel trilogy so close to Endor. Or rather it wouldn't be a big deal if they had kept the New Republic military. Now I feel there's less room to explore the New Republic era relative to the other republic eras as it practically only lasted 30 years...
I think the problem is they're focusing on big stories when I feel you could have done something like mandalorian and just explore the small seedy areas but you know... can't resist the urge of going big
I always say that the Venator was the best ship overall, in a 1v1 it world lose to a lot of similar/bigger ships but with its fight/bomber compliments it could take down a hell of a more and could arguably take down a resurgence class or A dreadnought class super star destroyer…
That's a Mon Calamari MC30 Frigate. On Star Wars Empire at War Forces of Corruption, she's the answer toward destroying capital ships and frigates for the rebellion. Armed with two torpedo tubes on the front, a laser cannon in the middle, and the ability to deploy cluster bombs against fighters and bombers (in-game reference). She's more of a support ship than an actual fighting ship behind cover for allies to attack an enemy ship while MC30 launches its volley of torpedoes toward a ship's hardpoints. Have about maybe 20 of them... you will destroy maybe a small to medium defense force and a space station in one shot. Edit: Speaking of hangers in ships... I highly prefer a nice compliment of carriers and Venator class Star Destroyers. Maybe the Revenge class Heavy Carrier... just a thought
@@JeroGoldfinger like dude one look on the video picture it took me a bit to realize that it was none other than that frigate found in Star Wars Empire at War Forces of Corruption expansion. A puny ship like that can easily be crippled by bombers destroying its dual torpedo launchers and engines. Laser cannon for extra credit to put it out of action.
@8:10 For the _porpoise_ of this war? At 1/3 the length of an MC80, this frigate would be approximately 1/27 the volume and thus resources. Imperial ships tended to have large crews, this ship, which looks much like the Quarren made CIS vessels, may have a far smaller crew with droids performing maintenance and repair supervised by organic officers. A small capital ship like this, with a squadron of fighters and a few shuttles or light freighters, would be a great hero ship for an ensemble of characters.
The scaling against a Home One type MC80 is really difficult. Home One itself often appears to be about 3km long on screen, irrespective of what source books say.
I tbought the bridge scene was too "Star Trek". Sounded and acted like Kirk "Have security meet me in the transporter room, I want to meet these people. Spock you're with me, Mr. Sulu you have the con."
I would like to imagine something like this would make use of a large amount of hidden pdt systems paired with a large amount of missile tubes. Basically in a large scale battle serving as a fighter/ missile screen while being able to dump a large amount of torpedo's/missiles from both fighters and launch silos so that it would overwhelm and burst down larger ships. Or have the missiles serve as a large screening tool destroying several squadrons of fighters or smaller warships to allow your fighters to get the jump on a less defended capital ship. This would explain why there isnt really any visible weapons as the pdts would just be retracted under the hull while missile silos are just covered by physical blast sheilds.
I know it was just an off-hand comment. However, I feel it made sense that the Empire concentrated its resources on big vessels like Star Destroyers since it ruled more through intimidation. Its focus was on keeping potentially rebellious planets pacified, as opposed to maintaining security against pirates and smugglers. There is a certain prestige and threat from seeing a single Star Destroyer, that isn't quite the same as seeing a few frigates. Sure, it can only be in a fewer places but like I said - the Empire ruled by intimidation. Knowing that the Empire has them and could bring one into your sector if it chose to, was sufficient.
I love the anti-Tarkin doctrine at play here. Another advantage of having a focus on hangars is that it makes it easier for non-New-Republic ships to dock, which obviously didn't end well this time, but given the NR is trying to have systems set up their own defense forces, it's good to be able to bring them aboard for joint missions and negotiations.
The Starhawk to me was another huge tone change, it was the NR trying to VERY clearly not be the Empire, by making their primary cruiser armed well, but clearly meant to help clear hyperlanes and carry supplies to beleaguered systems. They didn want them to be crazy good warships, they weren't expecting much resistance past the occasional pirate after Jakku.
He also failed to mention he was for democracy. Leads me to wonder what a Sith democracy would look like. Only one person gets to vote and they better be right.
I am glad that someone you have put up some good points in favour of this cruiser. Initially I have been very much against this ship especially when I saw how ridiculously positively people were treating it, but I love the nuanced take here.
Theres also the fact that a smaller carrier generally means a faster and more manouvrable a ship - a light carrier like this can run away from heavier warships that a supercarrier like a venator couldnt evade.
Mom calamari cruiser legacy: MC30 - close range missile boat MC40 - ion cannon boat MC60 - Disabler/Support cruiser MC75 - Proton torpedo spam MC80a - Main line battle cruiser (also applies to the MC80 liberty type) MC80 Home one - Super carrier Viscount - Republic Super Star Destroyer Gotta say the New republic cruiser has A LOT to live up to
What really makes this a huge security mishap, is that the Rebel Allience literally used a stolen shuttle, with old codes, to land a strike team on Endor, a moon that likely had the tightest security in the Empire at the time, as a key part of their plan to win arguably the most pivotal battle of the Galactic Civil War. They should, at the very least, be aware of the tactics that they literally used against the former galactic military (which was also far more militaristic and strict when it came to protocol than The New Republic) with success. It never should have been cleared to land. They should have met it with a hyperdrive capable fighter wing to escort it to literally any other ship in the navy, and reported the incident to Republic High Command, simply for the suspicion of it trying to dock with that particular cruiser with the mission it was charged with. There might be one or two red flags there.
I’m hoping that that gap in the main hull between the main parts of the ship and the engines is a modular area for freight containers or personnel transport modules, hospital modules,or external racks for quick-deployable fighters (sort of like the Gozanti-class cruisers and the TIE racks). If that’s what these are, this medium or light cruiser could actually be the ideal ship for peace keeping and patrol.
This ship is an MC20 used by the rebel alliance towards the end of the galactic civil war, and it had vast weapons and fighter equipment. Designed to be a multifunctional ship, it could carry a crew of 820, including artillery technical officers and pilots, although its weak point was its fragile hull and its small complement of 95 soldiers. which would explain how easy it is to board one of these ships.
Please look up the MC30 mon cal light cruiser. They carried armament typical for frigates or LT cruiser of the era. IIRC 16 turbo lasers and a modest amount of laser cannons. Plus some ordinance launchers in the front. Good shielding and average armor for a ship of its size.
We also don’t get a good look at the bottom of the ship, there is likely to be a bigger hanger bay there. Either sporting another frigate or able to capture vessels.
This is the first ship in Star Wars that has me drooling over how beautifully designed it is since I saw the Venator Class Star Destroyer for the first time.

It’s hard to imagine a scenario where it would be OK to do what this captain did.

(Smaller paycheck everyday, vs one big one a year)
The NR gets all the good stuff noted here and in the vid.

Still didnt work considering that there are still more tie fighter pilot desertion to the rebellion than stormtrooper desertion to the rebellion
@Nametaken42069 well, that makes sense since the pilots can pilot ships other than tie fighters, whereas stormtroopers are shown to not be trained to pilot ships at all apparently.

And in conjunction with that it has a lot of greebling on the top of the ship along the spine, drawing the faintest similarity to those seen on the sides of Imperial class Star Destroyers and the spines of Executor class Star Dreadnaughts.

"For the porpoise of this war..." LOL! I love you guys.
@@Engine33Truck *starts laughing hysterically*
No.

With almost all of the Jedi gone (trillions of beings never having seen one or heard anything other than legends about them) the Captain made a completely rational assumption that his entire frigate's crew could handle a couple of Imperial hold-outs.

Alan you have done another in-depth analysis as always thank you so much
9:29 I'm not sure if the crew is as big as you are suggesting.
In fairness, the estimated crew sizes for ships in the Star Wars universe have always been bonkers.
@@TatsumiyaLightning True lol. But you'd think that the New Republic would have lots of droid security on board at least like in the Mandalorian if they were worried about organic crew size.

The ship looks likes that missile boat in empire at war
A sensible weapon is two super powerful tractor beams so you can use them on different sections of an enemy ship and rip them apart
There are four turbo lasers around the communication tower!
Probable just point defence weapons centred round the bridge and central trench / hangers
I feel bad for the Rebels. So many bled and died enduring years of struggle just for this nightmare of a state to develop. its almost an insult
I think the ship is heavily more armed than its predecessors and improvement to MC-80 cruisers. I'm betting when the official stats come out most of the ships turbo lasers and anti-starfighter weapons are recessed.
Any idea of what kind of damage Skoll and Hati did to this ship before they left? Seems like a lot of debris around it.
I imagine they trashed the ship and for good measure flew around and shot it up for no reason 😂 complete dickhead move. Like why is there carbon scoring on the outside.

1/3 the length, but this porpoise is really wide tho.
Damn that is a versatile ship
i really like these types of videos, where its just talking about a vehicle and its weaknesses/strengths and what it compares to
The scaling against a Home One type MC80 is really difficult.
Allen when the New Republic makes some random brick fly: Starhawk!
Why aren’t cruisers built with hangers facing downward? Artificial gravity would allow it, and would offer more protection from enemy fire
I think the rant about the Mon Calamari is my favorite thing I've ever seen on this channel.
The Piece lasers clip had me laughing so hard. Blink and you miss it but it was gold. Great video man!
Allen has been replaced by a dolphin, he drops the word "porpoise" into sentences to leave us hints
Of all the questions in the universe, who we are and why we are here should not be among them.
He also failed to mention he was for democracy. Leads me to wonder what a Sith democracy would look like. Only one person gets to vote and they better be right.
"Peace Laser Beam" absolutely cracked me up
Isnt the Ship a mc 30c frigate from legends?
I am glad that someone you have put up some good points in favour of this cruiser. Initially I have been very much against this ship especially when I saw how ridiculously positively people were treating it, but I love the nuanced take here.
Theres also the fact that a smaller carrier generally means a faster and more manouvrable a ship - a light carrier like this can run away from heavier warships that a supercarrier like a venator couldnt evade.
0:30 The negotiations were short
You six guys are going to be extras in this scene.
6 guys: yay!
Bob, you have to wear the fish head.
Bob: dang.
8:10 "I mean, for the porpise of the war"
I see what you did there for the mon calamari ships. Nice pun :D
I died laughing at the Mon Calamari security dude comments
I wanna see a version of this ship with a full interior hanger, with all the hanger ports connected on the inside in an extremely large hanger.
"For the porpoise of this war" good one.
"Victory has defeated you."

Heh
Mom calamari cruiser legacy:
MC30 - close range missile boat
MC40 - ion cannon boat
MC60 - Disabler/Support cruiser
MC75 - Proton torpedo spam
MC80a - Main line battle cruiser (also applies to the MC80 liberty type)
MC80 Home one - Super carrier
Viscount - Republic Super Star Destroyer
Gotta say the New republic cruiser has A LOT to live up to
What really makes this a huge security mishap, is that the Rebel Allience literally used a stolen shuttle, with old codes, to land a strike team on Endor, a moon that likely had the tightest security in the Empire at the time, as a key part of their plan to win arguably the most pivotal battle of the Galactic Civil War.
For the *porpoise* of this war.
I see what you did there.
8:10 "For the porpoise of this war..." I see what you did there. Humanity first!!!
It really reminds me more of a Mc30 than a Starhawk. But a Starhawk cameo in Ashoka would be super cool.
He said "the porpoise of this" its clearly a dolphin imposter thats taken over the channel.
It's a nice looking ship and LOVED it the moment I saw it!
We also don’t get a good look at the bottom of the ship, there is likely to be a bigger hanger bay there. Either sporting another frigate or able to capture vessels.
