The love and humility in orthodoxy always gets to me. In my final catechumen class my parish priest said to me, “It doesn’t matter if I make it to heaven, my only job is to get you there.” He said his spiritual father told him the same thing. Thank you for this video.
Hieromonk Serifim is so dear! (I can say this because he calls me grandma). If you can manage, go on a Pilgrimage! I went for my 70th Birthday last year (5 from my Parish so far).
I love these interviews. I have to meditate after them to fully digest if you will everything. It doesn't seem like a lot of info if you are not paying attention, but it's a library full!
This is absolutely gold! I got really sick of people or rigorists saying you should have a spiritual or ur just jeoperdizing ur salvation! Like u said it...if u dont feel u need one then dont nd no its not thedevil tempting you...a safety net, that is SO accurate. I only have a confessor now who is simply my parish priest.
Glory to God for this interview! Although I am Russian Orthodox now, thru this video, I've discovered that during my many years in the Greek Church, my "Spiritual Father" was my Presvytera, & not her Husband, to whom I confessed!!! I can't express enough how eye opening this realization is. May God bless & grow your ministry via this medium!
I appreciated his concern and desire to achieve humility. I went to a Jesuit college and some of the priests there were just so crass and abrasive. And it was not "tough love" either. Besides, I had already spent four years in the military and was pretty done with putting up with people barking at me. I do understand that you have to subordinate yourself to people like a parish priest or a spiritual father, but at the same time, they have to be wise enough to guide you in a way that's constructive and helps you find a way; not hinder that process. Maybe that rougher way does work for some, but just speaking for myself, I would need a gentler approach from someone who would guide me.
Why everyone everywhere says that you MUST have a spiritual father? I dont feel that i need one at this point not out of pride but its just uncomfortable to me nd i just dont want one. I needed one when i converted to orthodoxy but now i dont want one. But this feeling of guilt is eating me on the inside because everyone says that you shouldnt leave your spiritual father and you have to b completely obedient etc...
Thank you Deer Father. But i must say the need for a spiritual Companion ; or Guide ; or Mother or Father is very great at this time of insanity in our world. And that Aid is or can be terribly hard to find!.And Yes the are Ammas ..Spiritual Mothers. Please try hard to get that Fact across to Orthodox. There is much you need to consider and pray to be given deep insight into concerning this very important topic! Great insight is needed here. A white beard does not make someone a Spiritual Father..that is fully a stereotype now . The Orthodox are worldwide now..in USA ; Canada etc..and the needs there are very different than they are in EU. There is so much to be discussed on this important topic!
Our Lord Jesus Christ He watch the heart of everyone of us, and He have A promises to us that John 14:21: "He that hath my com mandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him." And not only but John 14:23: "Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him." Αμήν

All my Priests are spiritual Fathers each one gifted by the Holy Spirit. They are truly God sent .
Very helpful
A great explanation of a spiritual father and also a good explanation of familiarity between priest and people within the parish. Good wisdom.
I hope to have a spiritual father some day.
I really enjoy these videos. Thanks for creating them.
I'm a bit fashionably late on replying, but I enjoy every interview you have with this man, and I hope for more in the future.
Better late than never! Thanks for stopping by...there are more to come! :-)

I have a spiritual father, yet I have learned new things now. Thanks !
As far as I know everybody needs a spiritual father cause they have to learn to obey (to GOSs word).
Woah. Is this really deep or is it just exactly describing my life right now.
Great
