Does anyone have any idea why he doesn't sing this live anymore. I went to see him recently at a festival and spoke to him briefly after, but didn't think to ask. He really should sing it at his shows, it's a great song.
He must have felt a little awkward looking at the people in the audience wearing the Rubettes caps. If I were him and saw that, I wouldn't have felt too comfortable. I wonder if anyone in the audience made the connection and could hear that it was his voice on the Rubettes record.
He probably felt even more awkward when he saw the stupid caps than he did appearing on the same bill as the Rubettes. I'm sure some people realized that the voices on Paul's set and the Rubettes were stangely similar and when they later learned the truth , they probably abandoned Alan Williams. One guy did throw his cap in the floor while others cheered Paul. So, he made an impression on some Rubettes fans
When the Rubettes played Sugar Baby Love live how were Paul Da Vinci's vocals incorporated into the song with Alan Williams's vocals. Was it just a recording?
Personally I think they deserved to have more than just one number 1 single, they had lots of good singles and albums maybe not number 1 hits but still in top 20. Paul should have joined The Rubettes instead of going solo then he would have did so much better than he did . Also is it a crime to mime ?
"Paul Da Vinci was to be the front man for the Rubettes but he decided that he did not want to become part of the group." So why would you put (Rubettes) in the title of this solo song?
It's because he sang their only number one hit single. Also it wasn't like they said do you want to be in this band? There's more to it than that. This is taken from an interview that Paul did just a few days ago: - “After the first session, they basically said to me ‘Wow. We’d be interested in doing something with you.’ But I’d just signed a deal with Penny Farthing [a record label], ‘so won’t be able to do anything, but thanks very much’. “Then I did the second session. Sugar Baby Love was recorded at 1.30 in the morning [at Lansdowne Studios in Holland Park]. The high bit was written an octave lower, and it wasn’t working. I said ‘Hey, guys, it’s got to be higher.’ And they went ‘Yeah… right!’ And I sang it.” So the reality is, they offered to work further with him - no mention of any band at that time - and as he was already singed to another label, he couldn't say yes. The formation of the Rubettes came later.

Esse nunca foi nem será rubettes
Great takes me back to a better world
yes i know this now when i listen and watch this. alan williams is the voice and face of the rubettes also verry good better i dont know. but alan deserves the credit because he is the lead singer. but i like this to. but alan williams belongs to the rubettes not Paul da vinci. but he was the first original singer from sugar baby love. so he deserves the credit of that song money. alan williams sings it good to. i think that alan performs everything with his own voice. etc. they are good in live. i like alan more than Paul but that is verry personal. but Paul is also verry good. Paul was solo also good.
No auto tuning, no AI tools, etc.......
It is obviously lip-synced here, but what an incredible talent!
I think the b side was she'll only hurt you
ear drum,s gone, good thing can,t hear the man I call a husband, lol
Mejor Alan tiene mejor presentación es lindo y tiene magia que paul no tiene le falta todo lo de Alan!!!!!,👄👄👄
Alan is 70 odd years old. He can't sing falsetto and never could. He's not the pretty boy from 74.. You stare at video shot in the 70s and drool over Williams' package that was mailed 40 years ago.
Rubettes sem o Alan, não è rubettes👎
If Paul hadn't been under contract with Penny Farthing records, he would have been the lead singer of the Rubettes. Alan would never been heard of.
