Wow - you have done a great job. This is a world hit and to me this song means a lot of memories. If also I was only 11 but I was the first time in love. Thank you so much^. Lots of love from Switzerland
Thank you Mister, for this song - it is a part of my childhood. Today I've remembered and looked for on YT.. and now I'm glad to be able to send a message to you. Crazy life. 🙏
The true voice of the rubetts. This was my late brothers steve who died in 1975 through a work accident at 19 one of his favourite records in the 70s.nice one paul. Brings back so many memories mate.
It's just so nice to finally see the original performer singing the song rather than the rubettes miming it. Great memories. Thanks Paul. You were blessed with a wonderful voice
Wow. This is the SONG OF MY LIFE. I was 8 when this hit. I didn't know the name, but I loved it. I spent years trying to find it and I couldn't. In 1983 I found it in an old tape in my grandparents house in Madrid, in a trip scale from Miami to Tenerife, but lost the bag with it at the airport, just when I arrived. I thought I would never get it again, until I found it in Muriel's Wedding soundtrack. But much less I could imagine is I could congratulate the Author. Congratulations, Tony, it's my favourite song, the Hymn of my life, and the most creative and original music Masterpiece I have ever heard.
Paul done all those high notes.Alan Williams done the rest of the vocals. Both great singers though,Esp Paul,So underated. The X factor mob wouldn't stand a chance against those Men and Women vocalists now,Proper singers and "Great Turns" as my old Mum used to say, lol.
@@captainsemicolon Thank You for the correction.I was always under the impression that Alan done the vocals. There you are then,Every day is a school day, lol,Cheers Mate.
Paul did all the vocals on the original version. This song was pitched to another band and they turned it down. The Rubettes were formed with session musicians and Williams was brought in as the vocalist as Paul had signed a solo record deal. The agreement was that the song would be re-recorded with Williams doing the vocals but it never was and the song was released with Paul's vocals.
SBL songwriting and its production are sublime, nonetheless it's the best falsetto in pop music history which propelled the song straight to #1. Incredible volume, precision and vibrato, just stunning!!!
Man, this is a great song!! I used to get up just to hear it on Radio 1 early in the morning when it was Number 1. I didn't realise that Paul sang it first but was not the front man of the Rubettes!!
@@thehobo54 That's not true. The song had been recorded as a demo and was offered to Showaddywaddy (and others) who turned it down. The producers kept Paul's vocal and formed a band to front the record. Paul had already signed to another label so was unable to be in The Rubettes.
This man looks as if he has no confidence which is unbelievable. He could wipe the floor with most of the new singers of today who could only dream of sounding even half as good as him.
Scottish Thistle Shattered glass .. only pane in that is pain in my ears... should be heard thru triple glazing... dreadful din Bring back Alan who did it properly...
the only sugar baby singer. I loved your performance in Montfoort Netherlands in 2014 and i had the honor to sing a with you ... thank you for the honor
Sugar Baby Love brings back all my childhood memories, although I have got to say as much as I loved that song I also went on to love The Rubettes songs too. I remember I bought ... Your Baby Aint Your Baby Anymore and my friends and I made up a dance to it for the school concert lol memories
I was 20 yrs old when this song came out. At that time me and all my mates were heavy metal fanatics, But I loved this song for some reason, I think it was the falsetto. I could never tell my mates that I liked it for obvious reasons. But now I don't care. I still think it is one of the best pop songs of the seventies.
@@stephenmelgram2453 I share your opinion. Paul Prewer (da Vinci) is one of these exceptional voices may invite the public to "look" into ténors, contre-ténors, haute-contres, sopranistes, et castrats bien sur. A lot to explore in those male voices and obviously likewise for the female voices. Good vibrations!
I didn't know what Paul looked like until I just watched this and I thought "Imagine if I was at a Karaoke before now and this guy got up and sang this song, I would have been completely blown away". Then I wondered if he'd ever done it. 🤣
Still love sugar baby love, used to hide under bed clothes listening to radio caroline in 70s waiting for it to be played. Watch You Tube Rubettes every day. Big girl crush on Alan Williams then, but what a voice Paul❤ forever a tune
Fantastic voice never really had the respect that he should have had , And wow where did he get that jacket I just love that , the style was from the 59,s Because I had one so similar

I remember writing this track back in 1973. I had no idea it would still be performed to this day. Truly a wonderful memory.

Hi Tony from Sunny Belfast , Where did the idea of this song come from and are you still writing songs?
Wow you’re the guy who wrote this? I bought it in 1974, wasn’t someone called Wayne Bickerton the arranger, if I remember from the single?
Bravo! Still loving this song on January 20 2023! Brilliant!

Possibly the best pop song ever written. It has everything, hooks a plenty and Doo Wop

How amazing........hitting those fantastic high notes so many years on. This is such a fantastic song and massive memory of my childhood

How dare they throw balloons at such a master falsetto?
And popped them throughout the song ! 😡
Life is so unfair. 35 odd years and still great range. I am down two notes
I was in the same class at primary school, had a lot of talent then.
Mike you have the coolest name lol, a Doctor has just moved in as my neighbour and he is K Mistry but I like yours better lol

Fantastic, how many singers have that range, I always thought it was a studio thing, not an actual real singer. What happened, he was in the Rubettes?
Paul wasn't able to front The Rubettes due to already being in another contract. Iconic voice of the 70s and really lovely feller
he should market himself as "the voice of the rubettes" as erroll brown did hot chocolate
I prefer Alan! Lindo! Presença de palco
