  • Born in Darfur in 1869, St. Josephine Bakhita was stolen from her family by Arab Slave traders at the age of 7 or 8. While a slave she was at times beaten and tortured daily to the point of death on many occasions. Over the course of her 12 enslavement she was sold to several different masters before escaping -- eventually finding refuge in the hands of the Canossian Sisters, who as she recalled, "Those holy mothers instructed me with heroic patience and introduced me to that God who from childhood I had felt in my heart without knowing who He was."
There is so much more to it than this little summary. Please go read more about this heroic, legendary, inspirational SAINT! One day, there will be a movie made about her.
