To get the two parts welded up and have them be perfectly center, if you have a lathe, you can put each part into the lathe and machine out a 1/4"-3/8" diameter hole into each one, then use some steel rod and turn it so it's a nice snug fit into the holes, then use that to center your parts, then I would definitely tig weld it as well as do some rosette welds for extra strength.

Tip for welding 2 cylinder type things together - get a piece of angle iron, support it so it sits like a V and put the cylinders in there and tack them together. If they're different diameter, figure out the math to shim the side for the smaller one (by the difference of the radius of the two - if you have a 2 inch rod and a 1inch rod you have to weld, radius is gonna be 1 in and 0.5 in, so you have to bring up the smaller one half inch, so shim it with half inch pads on the angle iron) You will get them within a few thou of dead center each time, not to mention straight (as straight as your angle iron is).

Andrew your range of talents always continue to amaze me but fitting a car radio using a chain saw really topped the bill and another talent added to your repotroire lathe work I still got to insist Levi Sadie and the other dog whose name escapes me and the black dog at the edge of the pond steal the limelight away from your endeavours Keep up the good work and videos and you can never include your dogs and cat enough times

If you had a lathe and wanted to transplant the drive stub, the way to do it is to cut off both pieces, then drill and ream them for a dowel pin. You assemble both parts of the shaft wit ha dowel pin in the center for alignment. Ideally you'd weld it with TIG on a rotary axis (a fancy positioner isn't necessary, just rotate it smoothly around).

After so many custom fabrications, the fact that your maiden voyage was one handed, holding a camera I might add, with no less than two turning uphills and some dirt along the way is a true testament to your crafstmanship. Well done sir.

What I really love about this Guy and what he can do. Is that he just kicked the crap out of the Corporate World and their Engineer's that like to feed off of the public by redesigning the product every year to gouge the wallets of the people who have to use a snow mobile for a living. He just proved the spirit of the people who never take no for an answer and that never give up to be robbed by corporate. He is a very valuable person to know and learn from. He is the reason America is a great country to live in. AND Boy does he know snowmobile's . WOW, what a great Job well done. I salute you SIR.
