Hey Louie, had to pull the front axle on my 2019 vk540. Speedo stopped working and the bearing on speedo side was completely gone. Your video was a big help, thanks for taking the time to make it.
Nice work, you make it look so easy!! The ratchet strap helps and when the holes are lined up, it's so much easier! Nice to have a clean shop floor to work on.
Can you do more of the older snowmobile builds and fixes. My self and probably many others enjoy them. I'm going to fix up my grandpas older sled kind of like this one and make it run like new. Thanks!!!
I remember putting my first track on outside in the winter in the snow what a pain you definitely need a little bit of heat to make that track a little more pliable doing it in the cold makes it take twice as long. But I was a young man and nothing was going to stop me from sliding with my buddies. 30 years later I'm not much different except I have a garage and fireplace . Sometimes I like to get it good and hot in there and just melt all the ice off the snowmobile especially if you've been riding through a lot of slush it starts to make the sled very heavy and it could potentially do some damage.
I like traditional and utilitarian snowmobiles. I had a Bravo LT for many years. Now I have a line on a 1989 VK540. May pull the trigger but I'll have to put a new track on her and maybe a few other parts. Outstanding Video Louie. TY.
Hey Louie, Aaron here. Another option for lining up the skid holes on the tunnel! Decompress springs on the back and swing them out towards the back. Manually take the rear skid (lifting or lowering the rear part of skid)and the holes on rear arm should rotate forward and backward enough to line up holes. Works on my 95 indy every time! Hope it helps!
a very kind and and friendly man told me about 5 minutes ago, Snowmoblies are all junk, there junk from the first time you pull the cord, your a good man luie and i love your videos
Ahhh, I did not know that trick with the ratchet to collapse the suspension. I've been stuck on an old Polaris Trail where we built new rear track mounts and installed a new track and rebuilt the skid. Thank you!!
If you take the Coil springs in the rear and unload them..You can move the upper rear idler wheels back and forth by hand and no need for ratchet straps. Trail side rapiers sometimes you don't always have a ratchet strap available.
Your videos are awesome!! Such a joy to watch. I would like to bypass my oil injection on my 1998 vk540 and was wondering what steps needed to be done before premixing 40:1. Thanks
Very good vid for anybody with a Yamaha VK 540, for you to show them the way Louie, to do the track install Good job...nice. The Forum presance would be very cool Louie! Then you can relax a bit,& really focus on life! Work will allways be there... will you? Take care buddy & thanks for all of this!
Love your videos!! Makes me pray for more snow. Utah is weird this year, no fresh new snow. How much should I spend on a used snowmobile I'm a beginner. Never owned a sled but I have drove them before.
Vertical with a VK... You is probably the first one in the world doing that. Imagine a VK with a nyteo motor, that would have been a beast. Here is an idea for you: make the VK a deep powder boondocking utility sled with a more powerful engine.
PowerModz Awesome. I just have to say that i love this channel. I have watched all of your videos, and I always wait for new ones. You have to post an uptate on the monster elan soon.
Hey powermodz, have you ever done a top end rebuild on the vk540? I've only got 110psi hot so might need to get one done. Can't find anything on UA-cam be nice if you ever did one and had the video. Keep up the great videos👍🙂
I don't understand why people knock these "free air" fan cool snowmobiles the motors last forever I have a 1995 Arctic Cat Panther 440 fan cool and that old sled is my most reliable ride.As long as you do your maintenance every season or every 10 years whatever comes first LOL that's sled just keeps on ticking. Mind you it's not as comfortable or as fast of a ride as my new snowmobiles but for going out on the trails or hauling a fish hut out on the lake I even use it to haul wood out of the bush. My new liquid-cooled cat overheats if I try that shit with it. I love that old cat and I will keep that old sled the rest of my days.
Hey Louie. Awesome video. I had first watched your video years ago and saved it because I knew eventually I wanted to change the track with this model on my vk 540 1993. Could be more clear instructional video how to do it. Thanks a lot. Only one question is I also changing the drivers on the shaft with same model you put on yours. Just to confirm 1" shaft? Thanks again for all your videos
Helping co-worker with a new to them used 2017 Vk540. On going thru machine I noticed some issues with track not running well on slide rails, noticed chaincase side sprocket centered up in track windows, clutch side sprocket is runs way close on inside edge of track clips windows. Also not really sure the finer points on getting track to run tru. Rh side rail rides pretty centered in clips. Lt side hi-fax runs close to outside track clips
The most important and hardest part you didn't explain. How do you align the track and how much tension should you have on it? I was actually looking for a vid on replacing the track on a VK PRO. do you have one?
You got me thinking. I have an old enticer 400 1989 136"X15"X0.5", and I was thinking about getting a new track with some bigger or better lugs for ice and/or slush, how do I know what size lug I can go up to without interfering with the tunnel? And if I need new drivers? Just curious cause I looked at some camoplast's like you suggested. Thanks for the video.
Just Curious if after this installation, and have used the sled for a period of time? Have you experienced any difficulty with the track size, and the driver sizes you've used, on this machine? If you have two riders has there been any difficulty with this modification/upgrade? I'm going to move forward with completing this installation if you haven't had any glaring problems. I'd love to hear back from you before I dive in eyes wide shut to do so.
How do I adjust the breaks on a 2004 yamaha vk540 I put new pads on but its way too tight do you have a video on how to adjust the right way please help!!!!
I love my srv but it has some problems, it only drives with choke on it'll run all day with it off, also the belt sits down in the secondary clutch pretty deep, but it's only worn a 1/16th of an inch from new width, I bought a spring but haven't put it in yet, any insight would be great I don't want to ruin the sled by running it like this
How does the vk vary as to comparison to a srv 540 looking to do a long track conversation on my srv with a polaris suspension and want to know if they are very similar so i can go off of your video so i have an idea what im doing
I know this is for a different model but you're the guy to ask. Without modification, what's the deepest lug I can go with my 93 Enticer 2 Lt? I have a lead on a 1.352 inch deep lug. If you could help, that would be great before I order one. Thanks
I bought a 1999 xc sp 700 two months ago and it was fine till yesterday when it started to rev really high and it was not moving very fast 8000 rpm at 10 mph and the sled starts to move at 6500 befor it was 4500 some one tell me whats wrong with it
I have a 1996 VK540 ll. Track guide says it only takes a 3/4” lug. Can I put bigger? 1 1/4” is what I was thinking. Did you have to go with smaller drive sprockets or just better after market? Thanks. You have email I could contact you? Thanks. Randy
@@ianbrowning8890 I mean yes there is a bolt in the holding the gears into the case but the case doesn't need to come apart and removal of the bolt is not needed to get it out of the sled either.
calisse de tabarnak im so pissed nicest snow in forever and i burnt a piston 3rd time out aaaargh fuck mfg supply and there sparklugs that dont work/fallapart inside your engine RRRAAAWWWRRR

consult the manual. or just re-align the sprockets
Yeah those manuals are handy, I will recomend that owner get herself one.

at 24:12 looks like the skid is snapped
LOL. That feature is for reverse so the machine rides up on the snow. Rear of suspension is meant to pivot.

I gotta vk 2 540 with 1 1/2 lug.works good.
Don Bro Did you need new drives to run the 1 1/2” lugs?
Don Bro
???? Going to switch the track this year. Will I need new drives for 1 1/2” lugs?
Is the VK almost same as the SRV
Longer,but engine etc. is shared.
did you just put the battery on a concrete floor? concrete ruins batteries
a few days on a concrete floor doesnt hurt a battery:)
if any body here has a set or even one std piston for a 85-93 mx470 im looking
How the hell did you just slide that transmission off when there’s a nut on the end of the treaded shaft which is inside the case.
The VKs don't have a nut on the end like most chain case setups! It's awesome!
philip gagne well my 1996 vk does lol
@@ianbrowning8890 I mean yes there is a bolt in the holding the gears into the case but the case doesn't need to come apart and removal of the bolt is not needed to get it out of the sled either.
hi do you think the 1.8 inch will fit under your VK
maybe with the smaller sprockets
@@PowerModzOfficial ok thanks.. i will go with the 1.5.. what was the product # of the sproket that you use
