I’ve had a geo press for a few years now. It’s been my trusted sidekick on several international trips and most of my daily hiking adventures but I don’t know if I’m sold on a boiling pot too

You don't need purification tablets with a Sawyer or similar filter.

Grayl is a water filter AND a water purifier (it removes all waterborne pathogens, including Virus). Sawyer and Lifestraw are only filters which is why they can’t remove Virus. That is the core difference and yes, one does need purification tablets with a. Sawyer or similar filter if there is suspected waterborne virus in the water source. 🙌
