Thank you to all of the reminders !! But yes, I know the score released and it did so the day after my birthday :') I now have it on vinyl. Anyways, I appreciate every single one of you and would love for you all to be a piece of my upcoming film, "Silhouette": seedandspark.com/fund/silhouette-thefilm#story - And don't forget to check out the Rounded Borders specific incentive where I digitally paint you in the channel's art-style and feature it in the next big video!

I can tell how intelligent you are because this video is only 9 minutes long and says everything in the same time of what usually is just the intro to a much more unnecessarily long-winded--- like we'd be learning about the Romans at the 15 minute mark, just for "context"---- essay. But "brevity is the soul of wit". And you are sharp as a tack, my friend. You'll make a great film-maker, I can't wait to see what you'll show us all.

On the movie posters it's always lower case, "her". The title of your video has it in all upper case, as "HER". Ironically, this is the opposite of what people do with GATTACA.

Mine too, and I'd love to have another film replace it someday, because it means I'll be able to experience something even more warm, more human, more beautiful, more lonesome yet even more expansive and all-encompassing than the masterpiece that is Her.

*I was 40 when I first saw "HER" in the theater* . Despite being much older than you, the movie resonated with me in a similar way. There's something _familiar_ about it to all men. (I can't speak for women, but the perspective of the film is inherently masculine.) I've been through the ringer in life. Once you drift out of childhood, you're expected to no longer acknowledge nor interact with your emotions. You are an obtuse instrument from which society is meant to function. (not human) You pick things up. You carry a load. You jump in front of a car to protect women and children. You go to war. You die working a dangerous job. You fight predators. You sometimes kill.
But, you don't feel. *There's been many times in my life when I was alone* . I remember all of them vividly - The night my high school girlfriend told me "I don't need you" after realizing how many men were attracted to her. The morning at the train station in South Korea after breaking up with my girlfriend. July 4th right after turning 30 listening to all the fireworks alone in my apartment. So many moments like these that are invisible to the rest of the world. We not only experience loneliness, but we experience the feelings alone.
After experiencing a divorce in my early 20's, *I've been fortunate to have found love later in life* . I've been married for over ten years now to a very kind, very loyal, and very loving woman. Life isn't mean to be experienced alone. (These aren't my rules, so don't hate the messenger.) Our biology and physiology is designed to be experienced with others. If you are lonely and you are frustrated, know that there are others out there of the opposite sex who feel exactly the same way. Don't pressure yourself to find some perfect person or some perfect situation. Find that person who fits in your arms and who enjoys being with you exactly as you are. And, if you just want to be alone, that's fine too.
*The problem with modern times is there is this wacky dichotomy of our existence - we have EVERYTHING and nothing at the same time* . We have unprecedented luxury, convenience, security, and access to food, entertainment, and sex unlike ever before in history. You can fill every second of your day with some combination of these things without ever having to leave your house. Young people are judged by this standard without most older people ever acknowledging all the things missing from young adults nowadays. It's simply not talked about or it's just dumped into some psychological diagnosis without any consideration of the existential portion of the problem.
*Gen Z grew up without a nuclear family* , with absolutely chaotic shifting of gender roles and function within just a few years, financial uncertainty, directionless, confused, and frustrated. And now as young men, you're being told you're a problem, you're not needed, you're irresponsible, childish (especially if you're a gamer), and deserving of nearly constant criticism. I feel for you guys. Hang in there. Life is never perfect and never goes according to plan. Keep searching, stick to your own path, and you will find your way.

I also stumbled across the trailer to Her as a young teenager. I remember being completely enthralled for weeks and imagining what I thought the story line was in my head. I worked up the courage to ask my parents if we could watch it. They then proceeded to tell me that they had already seen it and they hated it. I was disappointed but I didn't really care about their opinion on movies at this point (they also hated La La Land, like how could they-). I was able to find the movie and I watched it straight through at 2am on a school night. I only paused it to rub the tears out of my blurry eyes so that I didn't miss anything from the movie. You described exactly what I felt when I watched it. It felt as if I had lived through this man's entire life even though I was barely out of middle school. I was caught in this surreal/somber trance for days after watching it and I still haven't gotten over it yet. Thank you for making this video.

5:06 that's such an I'm-14-and-this-is-deep thing to feel and yet we all do occasionally even as adults, and we then feel shame for that, and then we feel shame for feeling shame. We should be kinder to ourselves and remember the child. We are care-takers of that innocent kid we used to be. Be nice to that kid. Don't give them a crap future. If you need to keep a photo of yourself as a kid around just to remember it, then do so. And for god's sake, keep a diary. You won't remember most of your days. You'll just have a vague recollection of having experienced certain things but all the details will fall away. (sorry this went somewhere else. but i'm for real, y'all)

Indeed! People have been forseeing this sort of things in many ways. The relationships artifical being developed with people in show's like Star Trek with Mr Data or intelligent computer characters slightly reflects this. Yet they were colored by the need for character development, plot conflicts etc. 10 years ago people were beinging to get the idea of what it might be like, but even today we still have supposed proffessional reporters etc. having their first chat with an A.I. and completely flipping out. Or 'experts' telling us things like they just figured out their old A.I. has had the logic ability of a 9 year old for two years... *and they didnt know*. It brings to mind worrying about who's going to judge what an AI can and should be, who owns it, who has what rights to it, and how much your life can be affected by one.

My favorite movie is Good Will Hunting and I have the same kind of love for that movie that you do for Her. It comforts me all too often, I probably watch it twice a week. The dialogue, the emotions, the performances, that entire movie just spoke to me. I felt myself in Will, in every scene, every movement, every decision. I watched it for the first time when I was 13. I'm so glad people have that kind of a favorite movie, one that spoke so sincerely to them. One that is more of a friend or an everything. It's like those movies seek us out not the other way around. Just that it means more to me than any other film - I connect with it on a level I hadn't thought of. The same can be said for almost all my favourite films. Instant sub. There is a UA-camr named Razbuten who does video game essays . But they are so much more than that. He is so good at writing in a way that gets you to think, and inspires emotion that it transcends the topic of the videos .
Your video reminds me of that. You have a great talent for writing.
You wanted to become a man capable of expressing his emotions and you did that wonderfully here .

Thank you for this amazing "video essay" about "Her." I haven't seen it yet but based on you review - it's now on my list of must-see movies. I love movies that make you think. Anyone who enjoys movies that make you think about their place in the world should watch "The Five People You Meet in Heaven." It's an amazing film that shows that no matter what your place in the world is - you will have an effect (either positive or negative) on those you meet.

I watched Perks of being a wall flower a second time because I really liked your thumbnail and I loved the movie so much more on my second watch, but I can honestly say that I love it even more now that I have watched your review and I followed the same pattern with this movie, I watched for a second time absolutely loved it and honestly like it even more because of this video, but to conclude I am going to continue to go off your thumbnails and watch more movies only to then come and watch your videos, I really like your videos and hope you put out more content, all the best!

It makes us realize that one can be in love with someone that doesn't even have a body.
The near the end scene when she doesn't respond on his phone I felt so bad for him. The hopelessness and helplessness.

When I was about 12 or 13 , my aunt showed me Eternal Sunshine. It became my favourite for a long long time . I feel like it has helped me with my perspective on relationships.
    Film is amazing

Fuck dude this one got me. I was always in love with this film and it was always so difficult for me to put the "why" into words, and you did for me. I found this movie in a similar place. I was alone, away from family in a different country with people I didn't know so well, and i was on UA-cam scrolling around my film and trailer stuff and came across the trailer for her, and haven't been the same since.

My favourite genre of film is usually horror or comedy.
But her will always be my favourite movie. It is the one movie I can watch over and over again. The emotions of the scenes can make me feel more than anything else can.
The memorable quotes, the dread of being alone, feeling alone while we're also surrounded by people. It's just such a great film.

I loved this, thank you, Her is one of my favorite movies too, and the reason is the same as you, I started crying while listening to you saying things I was thinking, but too scared to say it, so thank you, you made today more meaningful.

Wow. I recently changed my opinion and replaced Her from my 1st place of the top of my favorite films. But after this video I remembered how this film was important to me. I'm only 15 now and I live in another country but I had same story with this film as you. It's amazing how cinema can combine people from around the world.
Thank you for this video. it really helped me right now.

I’m too emotionally numb to like her. That’s why Taxi driver is my favorite movie I’ve always resonated with Travis bickle bc I never really had friends. I was always Alone. Although I’ve had my share of romance. I feel romance film are always told from the perspective of a lonely individual desperate for love. Love they’ll never have bc they aren’t in love with themselves yet.
You don’t need a person to whole.
