I was perplexed and kind of gutted when I first watched the film and saw the soundtrack hadn't gotten an official release. I'm glad that's changed now, it's far and away my favourite OST of all time.
Own it on vinyl myself. Insane to me that just everything in this film weaves together and works
This was the film that made me start to appreciate film as an art form rather than just "watching movies" The first time watching this film was literally life changing for me and it's still one of my favourite films of all time!
Finally she is coming..
It really is the best movie ever made. It's futuristic but warm. The technology seems welcoming not destructive.
@daseinz: *Her* succeeds remarkably, where *S1m0ne* fell flat
That's always what I liked about this film, its actually a positive scifi film. Positive society, fashion, jobs, infrastructure, preserved nature, etc. It's beautiful in every aspect.
Finally the technology has arrived and is globally available for free,
It's up there with _Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind_ , also a movie about a speculative technology that focuses on a relationship, not the technology. And both made by music video auteurs.
Who's here after OpenAI literally just created this in real life?
Her is one of those movies that you simply cannot forget. The score re-establishes that fact
I watched her for the first time when I was just going through a breakup with someone who I held alot of promises with, was my best friend, and with someone who loved me more than anyone ever has. I felt alot of guilt for things about the relationship, how I could have been nicer, the what ifs. It still is something I think about but this movie absolutely broke me, at the same time, it reminded me how lucky I was. I got to experience such powerful love, something I always looked for, and thats an experience to be grateful for, regardless of whether that love is the same way now. The scene on the beach was so simple and beautiful but it truly changed my outlook on life. Amazing film and beautiful soundtrack
I broke up with my girlfriend of 5.5 years a couple months ago, and it's been rough. But watching this video, and reading your comment, that alone is hitting hard. The guilt and regrets and what-ifs.
It's gonna fuck me up, but I need to rewatch this movie. Idk if I'll ever really get closure, but maybe this would be close enough.
Art is your best friend during this time for you, you may have already heard this, but it gets better, this is part of you are and you're going to be @Sach966
@@Sach966 I hope you’re doing well man, keep going
man im 43. and still i have pain deep in my gut over bad break ups. its like emotional amputation. it SUCKS...god. when u really love hard
Ben, i usually love all of your videos equally but holy shit I think this is my favorite one
Ben from Canada, my girlfriend of 18 months and I broke up on Sunday; so the release of this video is really serendipitous. Thank you. This movie *is* so dang good.
The score perfectly encapsulates romance, melancholy, peace, and happiness. An absolutely beautiful piece.
Her is my favorite movie of all time! I’ve never cried more than I did at the end.
I really needed that last 5 minutes or so of this video. Going through something painful right now and what you said about letting go is not only comforting but also empowering..
Thank you Ben
This movie managed to be so tragic yet SO hopeful. The writing was beyond anything I've ever seen. It gave me some hope. And it broke my heart.
Lord, I LOVE this score. It's a staple of several personal playlists.
Photograph was the song that got me back into playing piano. I was going through a rough time and I found this movie and song at a hard time and just hyper obsessed. It’s still just a super important song for me.
I watched Her when I was a movie nerd and thought I knew everything about it. Now I am a turbo cinema nerd who also understands music and soundtrack and that's like a whole new world and watching my favorite films for the first time.
Oh and also outstanding job Ben, literally as always
I just watched this again after a decade...and yes, it's perfection. It just made me FEEL so much
Where u watched it
Her is probably on my top 5 movies on all time I'm so happy people still talk about it
I still remember coming across this movie and wanting so badly to see it, but being so apprehensive because it had the potential to be so corny or lackluster
Ten years later and I would say it's in my top 2 favorite movies of all time
Same feeling here… also you saying it came out ten years ago just freaked me out 😩
Her might be about a movie about the relationship between a human and an OS system. But it manages to be one of the most human movies ever made. My favorite film of all time!
Beautifully put!
A lot of my intellectual friends who also love this movie posit that it’s science fiction and about how AI is evolving past us. And I’ve always been like, “Did we watch the same fucking movie?!”
When I tell them that this is about being human, they fight me on it, and I’ve had such a difficult time defending my position. Thanks to you, now I know why! I don’t know enough about music to explain how the very deliberate musical choices in the score are the part of the film that conjures Samantha’s humanity the most. But you truly captured that so beautifully. This is an allegory, and the AI conceit is very elegant, but secondary to the film’s message about the nature of human love and connection.
The soft color tones mixed with occasional brightness really stood out to me when watching this great film (almost like a feeling of a neon light against a wood background)
I really love this movie. It is great seeing it be appreciated by others. Good work man! 😊
Ben, you had some really beautiful written parts in here, especially at the end. Keep up the great work!
Amazing work linking the muscial theory with the visual themes portayed at the same time on the screen. Best ive seen on this movie 💎💎
Beautiful words, Ben. Subscribed awhile ago, this is one of my fav movies and I’m so glad you say feelings I’m feeling. Nicely done!
Ben I’m always stoked when your videos pop up. Thank you sir.
Forgot I watched Her, probably way before I could actually appreciate it. I know for a time I used the soundtrack to help me sleep. I remember most loving the way it looked, cause it looked both like real life but also the future; kinda like how you dream reality if you see images in a dream.
Wish I could approach/appreciate the music theory to the level presented, but its nice seeing this kinda dive into what’s happened in the movie, and so succinctly too
Ben your essays are amazing, keep up the good work.
Ben from Canada, you truly have a gift. Your video essays are thoughtful works of art.
Every time I watch one of your essays, I find a deeper appreciation of the subject of your essay.
It is poetically beautiful: your own unique artistic exploration is art adding meaning depth, appreciation, and contextual value to other works of art.
Wow, okay. I've been going through the playlist and we're 3/3 on videos about music in some of my favorite movies making me quietly cry at work.
Thank you. This video is cathartic in a similar way to watching Her. I can't place it, but I feel like I learned something fundamental.
as soon as i watched this movie i learnt both this song and "photographs" on piano. such an amazing soundtrack
I just watched all of your video essays back to back just cause i really liked the first one the algorithm has presented to me.
It's amazing how your videos balance fantastic film analysis, humor and thought provoking questions about life and love.
I will definitely recommend your whole channel to my friends and I'm excited for what comes next. Great work!
Thanks Ben for this video really needed it right now.
Seeing a video about Her in 2022 was very refreshing but so many nods to Beginners made me very happy. Tyvm x
Never stop making videos. I love these.
I've got to say, I've spent more hours than I care to admit listening to people on UA-cam breakdown and analyze films and TV and everything between, but in 100% honesty I don't think anyone does it better than you do
Thank you for posting, I really appreciate your inputs.
This video was great. I need to go rewatch Her now. I really appreciate your work Ben From Canada
This was beautiful, endearing, and unexpected~thanks Ben from Canada!
I never comment on videos like this but i really enjoy what you're putting together and would love to see more! You have a very entertaining voice and presentation style as well as the requisite insightful analysis for these kinds of videos. Would love to see more. Will be donating to your Patreon. It's my first time to ever donate. Would love to see more content if you feel up to it!
I, like many I would imagine, was first introduced to your work via your hilarious editing for the Mr Sunday Movies channel. But whenever your rare but outstanding personal essays and videos break their way through the algorithm that insists regularity trumps quality to my feed, I am reminded of how truly wonderful, insightful, artistic and funny your output truly is. Keep being one of the best video essayists on the UA-cam platform brother. You are fantastic at this, and whenever you find the time to plow your talents into such outstanding and heartfelt commentary on the art that keeps the cynical wolves from the door of our souls, you will find a grateful and smiling audience in the form of me - a single dot on the analytics of your contribution to the love of all things cinema. Top work Benjamin of the frozen North. Don’t stop.
Beautiful essay Ben!
ty for this one Ben I needed something nice n tender today
I've been watching Mrsundaymovies for years and can always tell when its your editing as soon as a Spongebob reference pops up. It seems like you've been busy with other projects lately since their recent videos seemed to be missing that extra OOMPH. I got curious to look up your channel and see that your most recent video is about one of my favorite movies. Love your stuff
Great video as always. I remember I was a bit hesitant of watching Her because I was convinced that it would be an excruciating experience for my emotions (younger me was a fairly sensitive person). Of course, I'm glad I did watch it after all; it is too beautiful of a movie to ignore. And, to my surprise and delight, it was more uplifting than it was depressing.
Only a few movie moments are so relatable for me as drunk and depressed Theo lying in his bed after the failed date... Really good movie
Awesome video man! Keep up the good work!
So now I'll spend the weekend searching every movie you used scenes from in this essay and watching them.(some of them for the 3 time)
Man, I love your videos
Love the “it’s a metaphor” still eeked in under the wire for this video!
YAY! I literally JUST finished watching your Matrix video! :D What a coincidence!!!
Came from CJ’s live! This is so good. I loved this movie and now I have even more reason to.
Just found this video. Sad to see you haven’t posted in a while . You’ve got a gift for this kind of essay man.
From a fellow Canadian, I hope you come back
Great video. Excellent work
i remember watching this movie back in 2015 or 2016 idk and it absolutely broke me. absolutely loved it and even more everytime ive rewatched it. 10\10
I found your channel with your video about The Bear pilot... But this is the video that made.me subscribe. Whenever I feel like everything is too much, and I just want to feel, just want to cry... I put on Her.
I love this movie so much... It hurts, and ot confuses me, and it feels good, and it makes me so angry. It makes me feel human, even though I can't relate to or understand humanity.
I feel bad for Samantha... That someone that she fell in love with was just.... So set in his ways that he couldn't accept her, that he wanted to own her.... He could have just been happy with her.
So fine. He found someone that makes him happy, and Samantha found meaning in Life.... It gives me Hope I will too.
Leaving a like and comment for the algorithm, one of my favorite movies. Thanks for the review.
Hi Ben from Canada, Its Pigwars from America here. Just wanted to say this is an amazing video, and you make amazing contact on a whole!

Just, thank you for this
Solid vid Benny Boy!!!
U killed this!
Wow, great essay. Thank you.
I need to check this movie out, thank you ben
I cried at the end of this movie.... What a romantic film.
I hate spoilers, even though this film is almost 10 years old so that’s on me, but I’ve been gnawing at the bit waiting for a new so it was totally worth it to watch the whole video!
Love your deep dives man, please post more often lol
The movie was actually hard sci-fi.
perfect review and analysis of a perfect film!!
Best video in the playlist!
Why is this the best vpn ad I’ve ever heard. ❤
Love this movie. Love your work
This is one of those artist films I haven’t gone to the trouble to see yet, but you may have changed my mind
Your content is dope bro ❤
Omg. Are you THEEEE Ben?!
Goddamn! Ben from Canada... You are a unbelievablely talented. I have absolutely zero skill when it comes to dissecting films and understanding the nuisance. I don't know. Maybe my thinking is too literal. You are exceptional at it and watching your videos is a joy. Thanks!!
Good u finally covered this movieeeewww!
How dare you make me cry... Again.
I'm terrified. I'm afraid that one day you'll just wake up and realize that I'm... That you've outgrown me. That I'm no longer worth it.
Your editing style is beautiful an it’s what brought me here from Sunday movies, this video made me sub!
this is my favourite movie, you confirmed that for me
Absolutely one of my favorite movies ever and an underappreciated gem.
BEN : I LOVE YOU
Dude I laughed my ass off at that ad transition. That was too good.
Hello I am here because of CJ the X but I will not stay because of CJ the X. I genuinely love this video and I am excited to watch more :D !!!!!
1st One Musical Scene I watch today.
This all true. This film moved me, I loved the subtlety of its realization... But I thought that such an AI was basically too advance to ever exist. Now this movie stands as a warning to the world we are going to experience... This is so weird that a movie on human emotions could also be the most accurate anticipation movie of all time...
You convinced me to sit through the whole ad.
This is the best video essay on Her since I watched Channel Chriswells video on it
I never comment like or dislike anything I watch but this was a really good video man
Why did you leave us Ben? 😢
Great video
Hiii here from the livestream!
This is the best video essay on any film, ever.
Excellent Analysis, Deployed Worldwide Through My Deep Learning AI Research Library… Thank You
Her is currently my third favorite movie. You made a case to push it up one or two places.
Wow this video was really crushed by the Algo…but I just need to say absolutely loved it and your work.
Ben you’re the 🐐
Return of the king.
