Totally agree about the advantages of living in a rural area. You’ve a better chance of learning the language & immersing yourself in the community. Cities are lovely to visit but even more lovely to leave & go to your home in the countryside
I honestly love your videos and your humour is spot on! Ignore the Soi Bukhao Bar Stool Brigade, they’re professional moaners and experts on everything. Keep up the fantastic work 👍🏻
Great two bedroom house, better size kitchen, you could put a good sized pool in at the back, I would! Love all the terraces too, wish I could buy as a single English person. Loved it, great renovation.
Another great Vlog James, and I can’t fault your pragmatism and loyalty to a country that I didn’t appreciate enough whilst I was there. Going over in 1998 just as Blair had come into power meant that my rose tinted glasses stayed firmly on the bridge of my nose. I took full advantage of the Thai delights and complained about its politics and corruption. I definitely started to become jaded, and maybe I would be one of those Pattaya Farangs if I hadn’t met my wife and returned to the UK. Having been here for 18 years, I now see how naive and ill informed I was back then. I’m determined to return with just a pair of plain glasses this time, and maybe my love affair with the country will be salvageable. Keep up the good work and remember; All suffering is caused by ignorance. People inflict pain on others in the selfish pursuit of their own happiness or satisfaction.
Thailand can still up the stressometer, but don't know how I'd survive the UK now lol. Grass is always greener as they say, but even with no green grass here at the moment lol, I'll pick Thailand. Good luck.👍🍺
Good point about Pattaya. Been going there since 1981, still love it, although golf is my only vice now. Wife loves it, too. The sleaze has become horribly commercialized since my naughty days but you can filter all that stuff out if you want to. Love the videos, could do with more of Annie and a bit more variety (from houses)....
Love it James you have a great nose for a bargain. I also love the teak floors not a common sight in Thailand I think you are correct original well seasoned floors. I concur everything you say I know I repeat myself regarding living in the country. I live on a so called paradise island full of tourists we have sea views 3 minutes from the beach and we hate it there. We are heading North for Songkran and it feels like the song "driving home for Christmas" our lovely neighbours and friends and not a lot of westerners but the ones there know how to show respect not like the ones on the islands lol. We live here due to schooling for our kid and which hopefully will be finished in two years. So yes country life not for everyone but if you love real Thailand and real people its the way to go......ColinC had to change long story James LOL..keep up the good work.
Hello there! I haven't been on here much in the last months, but I'm so happy to hear that you've actually sold some houses, that's fantastic! Ok,, I know it's only been five, but I'm still amazed, that's great!!! Garden looking gorgeous. I think I remember your mum having a lovely garden, so I bet you got that talent from her, or both of your parents, of course. So nice to hear also that Annie loves her home. It makes it all worthwhile, doesn't it. Anyway, cheers from France, good to see you. 🥂
Thanks dottie, glad to hear from you. Will be going to the UK soon. I'm sure mom's garden is going to be looking great and maybe a few gin and tonics and glasses of wine lol. all the best and thanks for the nice comment.👍🙏
2.5M is a bargain.. Airy, lots of light, modern. what more can you ask for. Thanks for putting a couple of things straight about farangs, property ownership, .. I would highly recommend Ben's channel if you're into rural living.
hey james looking forward to another video are you doing any more videos with your step daughter we have not seen her in a while and dont forget annie you two make a great team😇🤭😻😹👍
Hi James, I love these property videos your putting up gives me an insight of what property are available in Thailand and you can get Some fantastic bargains it looks like . cheers 🍻
Hi, James. Love your videos. The only little gripe I have is not knowing the location of the houses you show. That would be a great help to me as my (Thai) wife and I are considering relocating to the Chiang Mai area from Koh Samui. We have lived on Koh Samui for 20 years and we are feeling a bit 'island bound'. Koh Samui is a lovely place - we live in a rural part, away from the tourists - but we hardly ever get to go anywhere. Chiang Mai will give us so much more scope for day trips out. Please show us a map, or be a bit more precise, with regard to the location of the properties you show. It would be a great help to many people who are thinking about moving to Chiang Mai and who want to know more about the different areas.
Hi mate, I usually leave a Google map link down in the description. I do forget on the rare occasion but it's usually down there somewhere. All the best 👍
I really like your video's. I live in Bangkok at the moment but one day I hope to move north once my other half has retired. So watching videos like yours and Ben from "Life in Thailand" that you mentioned give me an idea of what's available, an idea of prices and a look at local areas that i might not have visited before. Much more interesting than a skanky bar in Pattaya lol
I agree with you. I can't wait to get out of Bangkok after arriving and back to the village outside Udon. The house was one of the best you've shown. Your area has a lot to offer. By the way you're looking well.
Thank you James for taking us around on another interesting House tour. Very similar old style house we have out near Khemarat. My wife is Thai we have been married 20 years. She has a Dual Passport. She just wants to keep on working in UK James. Really enjoy all your videos. Stay Safe from Dave & Aoi UK.
Lovely looking house James and a great price 👍🏻 I would have made the master en suite a bit bigger but overall a nicely thought out renovation, looking forward to more videos keep up the good work
Great vlog mate. That house had a nice big lounge and kitchen. Very nice. Rural Thailand....ah man, I love it so much. Village life is great. Mixing with the locals. I go several times a hear and have a home in Nakhon Sawan. Boxer short action...😂 My missus wears mine all the time. Sabai sabai she says about wearing them!
good Vid, I'm like you, I love the rural life. I grew up on farms and while I've lived in the city for work I always head bush on the weekends to relax. Always feel stressed in the cities everything is just rush rush rush. My dream is to retire to an asian country in about 3 years so the trips to check things out have started.
I love the city. Would get bored in a few weeks in the countryside. I dont want to drive or take taxi to get somewhere also 😊 Buying or renting depends on personal situation also. Me and my wife bought a townhouse in Rangsit and our goal is to pay it off before we move to Thailand. We then live rentfree and if we want to change scenery its easy to rent something for a month in some other place.
Very nice renovation. I'm not as impressed with the kitchen as you are but I'm right there with you on the floors. Those wide wood planks look spectacular (says me the guy who complained about the floors in the last place :)). Good choice not cramping it to make a 3 bed. Fine price for what it is and where it is. Great find. Also, I'm in Udon. Not as far out in the countryside as you are but I just spent a week in Bangkok and man was I glad to get out of there. So I'm with you on that as well. :)
Hi. That is a great house. I would like some more land to it but you cant get everything. Personally i think you do the right thing living in rural Thailand, i have been there and its so relaxing. Pattaya, Jomtien, sure its nice for a while but in the end i get bored. About your boxers, i dont think its so important for us who watch. :) Thanks for a good video.
Cheers Mate. I Agree about pattaya. It's nice to visit the big cities now and again but also lovely to come back to the countryside. More boxer action in the next video I'm afraid. LOL 👍
That first house is really well done . Very nice finishes . Agree on Pattaya its not my scene at all. I really prefer a cross between city and rural with just enough things to do but not enough to bring the masses 😊
@@jamesabroad8589doing well thanks mate currently suffering the winter of Canada and living precariously through you ! Great stuff as always , stay healthy
I guess that I'm one of the lucky farang because my wife came owning her own home in Chonburi twenty one years ago. We spent our U.S. winters there from 2008-2016 and hope to relocate permanently soon.
You certainly did seem impressed with the house. Loved the dog when you heard the price second time. Was it the same dog that left the parcel in the back garden ? I was impressed with your washing line. Cheaper and friendlier people too Shouldn't call the people cheap just because they are in the countryside.. PS, you mentioned 50 thousand watched your last video. 96 thousand now. Keep slagging the Pattaya crowd. It works 😅😅
Yep, I do get a bit over excited 😁. I think it's a nearly 130,000 views now I didn't think it would do that well. I can never judge how UA-cam works LOL. All the best. 👍🍺
Hi James you are back on it mate another great video me old son. lovely property and has potential for a private pool and a landscaped garden at the rear not often available with new properties, Can you find out if there are any issues with termites on older properties with timber roofs as all new ones look steel thanks mate and keep up the blinding work
Cheers. Termites don't usually like teak and I've never had any issues with the tea inside my house. However, it's always good to seek advice and maybe spray any untreated wood specially if you've got supporting beams. 👍🍺
Hi James you're absolutely right I work shift work in New Zealand and Australia for 36 years and the divorce rate was very high ,most Man with children, Lost 75% of everything, house, cars, bike's,saving and investments
House looked ok; my wife hates kitchens where the units are concerted though so she said we can’t buy it 🤣 Definitely need more boxers on show mate 😆 Hope you & family all good. Take care 😎👍🙏
Good on ya mate uk finished here born free taxed to death. Bought a plot land in khon kaen last year hoping to build next better way of life and cheaper.
I've never really been interested in buying Thai property owing to a combination of the foreign ownership structure and the poor yield making rental a more attractive proposition, but honestly at 55k GBP none of that really matters much, I spent more than that on a motor a couple years back and obviously its worth a lot less than that now. So even if you put it in young Nok's name and it turns out that brother you bought a new scooter for was really the husband all along - well its not the end of the world. Definitely hard to grumble about this price it really is.
100% You have struck the best deal - where else can you live in such large, mature and SOLID house with large garden with the cities always accessible when you like. On the other hand, those city condos, they do look nice in a sort of cheap shiny materials way but so plasticky and artificial, not for me at least.
Cheers James, that is a fantastic house for the price, regardless of the location. As you allude to, you can have a good/exciting life no matter where you are if you have any wits/crack about you and personality. And its not far to bigger cities. Pattaya is off-putting because of the expats and stigma that they generate for that place. I'm sure its great place with lots of great people, but the youtube videos mostly suggest cringe-worthy behaviour from expats in Pattaya. Hope the Toyota is going well. 🙏🙏👍👍
I enjoy Pattaya and rural Ubon, don't enjoy Bangkok. Personally I couldn't spend my life on a barstool, but many do. There is plenty to do around Pattaya besides the bar scene. Tens of thousands come down from BKK for a weekend and won't go anywhere near WS, Soi 6 or buakhow
Hey, Man... I was thinking, as you were admiring that piece of wood to sit on, that sitting on wood is far safer than sitting on cold metal. I am saying, far safer to avoid hemorrhoids.
I just noticed that you seem to still have that large yellow and green sticker stuck to your AIR CON. I remove all stickers anytime any Thai product enters my house. Although, you sometimes must be careful when removing the poor-quality stickers from plastic.....in order to avoid blemishes. Why they don't use highest quality stickers remains one of Thailand's greatest mysteries to me.
OK James do UA-cam micks thai travels from uk now live rural Thailand just outside khon kaen Trak area i haven't been been but the river ping looks great Agree with you on rural life rather than the big tourist spots By the way looking for a property soon after April that property you showed caught my eye Must come have a look round the area
What search terms do you use to get proper boxers? I've given up hope and just buy briefs that are a few sizes too big at this point, but it feels a bit like walking around in diapers.
I've left the link in the description of today's video. You'll come and get some mention actually lol. The missus buys them for me from shoppee . A little bit pricey but they're good quality.👍🍺
I came for the truth bombs...but stayed for the F bomb. Put this one in the vault. (UA-cam Gold!🤣) Here in Japan too, rural is definitely the way to go. (And, as everyone surely knows by now, houses are all but free here. But don't come. Please. I beg you.)
Great for the money, but renovated to Thai rather than western standards. The engineered flooring is nice, but all the tiling has this weird dark grout which doesn't look great with the white tiles. The kitchen tops don't look like solid marble to me, and it needs more cabinets on the walls. The shower needs a glass divider to not be a wet room, even with the lowered floor. If that road or the neighbours are a bit noisy, I would have put double glazed windows and doors rather than the single pane used. Needs built in storage to mist rooms to be usable. Whether someone wants to buy this depends on how much they like the area and how much more it will cost you to make it livable to your standards.
Pattaya Farang are not that rich like Phuket Farang, but they lived near a very good medical infrastructure, that they had the best chances, that they don`t lose their leg after a snake bite. What is the reason, for buying a house ? Its not only, to install RCBOs in the electric, but yes, its about, to upgrade your living, to get it safe.
Hey mate lovely house how can I get in touch with the owners and is it still available let me know. Send me your details or their details thank you and also is there any kind of transport near the area 8:138:13
hey mate, you sent me a comic back that that house was sold but at the end of the video you took some video footage of houses that your contractor that did your house was in the process of building and they were almost done in the news on those and do you have any videos from them and how much are they really is it one point 8 million baht for them or 1.5 I thought it was some thought let me know. Thank you 9:52 9:58 10:05
good house but not good backyard, need lot biggest backyard can build 4 car garage shed and sauna and pool. and position totally wrong need be north thailand, then i buy 40K-60K € this
What a shame to see yet another Thai designed "western" kitchen without overhang on the workboard and no recess for feet under the cupboards. Renting a Thai house with this "genius" design. Thinking what an insanity everytime washing the dishes longer than 3 minutes... Who in his right mind wants to stand 30cm further than needed from the sink? Thai revenge on farang backbone lol
Thais view kitchens differently to westerners, especially indoor kitchens. Not really part of their culture. cooking is done predominantly outside and a lot of food is bought from outside as well. 👍
The majority of houses in China and Taiwan also don't know about the importance of grouting bathroom tiles. Grout is important for a properly finished bathroom. But, China is China. Of course, in China and Taiwan, the better hotels will properly grout their bathrooms, toilets. The last two houses you have showed did not have grouted bathroom tiles. Maybe you are too far from BKK or CM....IDK....
You are 100-percent correct about those Pattaya Farang. Never cross them on social media. Walk on eggshells with that crowd.

PS, nice house, I would be tempted to squeeze a 3rd bedroom in at the far end of the lounge, but that's just me
Agree mate. Enjoyed my time in pattaya not a great fan of Bangkok at all.👍🍺
'you are not just stuck here with a cow". Some people might object to their other half being referred to in that way:)
near rice field have big problem some year flood water lot in house. my wife house flooded now 2 time all has water in house 1.8 meter all room.
Certainly needs to be taken into consideration when building or buying here. 👍🍺
People will always talk about the negative things about Thailand.
There’s loads of success stories about people having a good life their.
agree mate, but everyone loves a sob story unfortunately lol. All the best. 👍🍺
Hey, Man... I was thinking, as you were admiring that piece of wood to sit on, that sitting on wood is far safer than sitting on cold metal. I am saying, far safer to avoid hemorrhoids.
Always take my coconut oil with me lol
Does the local government do inspection during construction?
Depends on the local office and builder. We didn't have any inspection when building ours.👍🍺
Nice house great floor, maybe keep the boxer shorts action for members only viewing 😁
Agree mate. Members only boxer action could be a good earner, I'll give it some thought lol. All the best. 👍🍺
your thai language getting better lol
Still very bad.😁👍
I just noticed that you seem to still have that large yellow and green sticker stuck to your AIR CON. I remove all stickers anytime any Thai product enters my house. Although, you sometimes must be careful when removing the poor-quality stickers from plastic.....in order to avoid blemishes. Why they don't use highest quality stickers remains one of Thailand's greatest mysteries to me.
Haha I just forget to take them off and don't notice them after a while. 😁👍🍺
OK James do UA-cam micks thai travels from uk now live rural Thailand just outside khon kaen
Trak area i haven't been been but the river ping looks great
Agree with you on rural life rather than the big tourist spots
By the way looking for a property soon after April that property you showed caught my eye
Must come have a look round the area
Yes there are some surprisingly good properties here. Over 40° at the moment so maybe wait until after the hot season before you visit lol.
@@jamesabroad8589 just going back to UK after songkran when I get back I ll pay a visit to the area
That river ping looks a nice area
What search terms do you use to get proper boxers? I've given up hope and just buy briefs that are a few sizes too big at this point, but it feels a bit like walking around in diapers.
I've left the link in the description of today's video. You'll come and get some mention actually lol. The missus buys them for me from shoppee . A little bit pricey but they're good quality.👍🍺
I really like it but it's let down by its toilet/shower. Gotta keep on top of those termites.
👍💯%😎
Rural life for me 💙🇹🇭 who cares about the keyboard warriors just as long as you’re doing what makes you happy 😃
Very true mate.👍🍺
I came for the truth bombs...but stayed for the F bomb. Put this one in the vault. (UA-cam Gold!🤣) Here in Japan too, rural is definitely the way to go. (And, as everyone surely knows by now, houses are all but free here. But don't come. Please. I beg you.)
😂👍😎
Cheers mate. Hope all is going well out there in japan. 👍
@@jamesabroad8589 Mostly fine, thank you very much.
It sold a few days after doing the video.👍🍺
❤👍👍👍🙏
It's the Thai visa crowd you are having issues with. The Soi 6 crowd wouldn't get past the first 30 seconds.
👍😅
Pattaya Farang are not that rich like Phuket Farang, but they lived near a very good medical infrastructure, that they had the best chances, that they don`t lose their leg after a snake bite. What is the reason, for buying a house ? Its not only, to install RCBOs in the electric, but yes, its about, to upgrade your living, to get it safe.
not expensive, normal about same size maybe little biggest cost 3 million.
Hey mate lovely house how can I get in touch with the owners and is it still available let me know. Send me your details or their details thank you and also is there any kind of transport near the area 8:13 8:13
It sold a few days after filming. Sorry for the late reply.👍🍺
hey mate, you sent me a comic back that that house was sold but at the end of the video you took some video footage of houses that your contractor that did your house was in the process of building and they were almost done in the news on those and do you have any videos from them and how much are they really is it one point 8 million baht for them or 1.5 I thought it was some thought let me know.
Hostile…🤣😂🤣😂
Just the annual rant. 😁👍🍺
