    Agreed also. Anyone that wants to produce a pro video on youtube needs to come watch all these GMT videos first. Music, camera effects, everything. I wish network TV were produced this well.

    @molinobeer I've made some pretty precise parts in my day, but I could never come close to this speed and repeatability. Parts that would take me hours on the old machines, they do in minutes, and then they automatically feed in more stock and start making another one just like the first. I've got to admit, it's fun to watch them work.

  • @depenthene
    @depenthene 7 років тому +3

    Nice, but still leaves some finishing work. Wonder if drilling cylinder first and then turning it would remove that annoying burr. Probably not, it would just shift to hole.

    • @IAmStillNotMatthew
      @IAmStillNotMatthew 7 років тому +1

      It all depends on the programming, it would remove it, but the knife might not love the idea to drill first, then turn it. I've seen CNC lathe knives break and that's the reason for the safety glass. Harder to break the ones used in CNC machines than the ones used in regular turn machines, but it's more dangerous too.

    That high tech precision lathes that can rotate at high speed for long periods of time with huge torque, and if needed can stop and do precision rotations, both situations on the main axle.
    What kind of motors do they use to do that task? A stepper overheat after some time at high speed, right?

    The inserts can handle it just fine. They only run without coolant for videos like these, other wise they would be using it. The inserts last much longer and /or the surface finish is better.

    I understand this is a demonstration video and therefore there is no coolant, but how can the miller cut that much material that fast without burning? Ive tryed to cut with no coolant before (becos' i forgot to turn it on), and the tools just melt in 3sec.

    is it so hard to use a cnc machine? I never work with it but rumour said it is complicated?

  • @astaschak
    @astaschak 13 років тому

    @smtkl it can get complicated, a 3 axis mill or lathe isn't that complicated to program or run, I really can't say anything about a 4 or 5 axis, as i have never ran one. I would imagine its not too bad, just another axis to keep in mind when programing, if you do not program the machine and have someone else do it however(this is normally the case in most shops nowadays), its as simple as pushing a few buttons.

    I wish our lathes had live tooling. You can do so much more, so much faster. We run them in a lathe, then a mill, then back to the lathe...if we had live tooling, our rate would probably double. I have been trying to sell my management, but once the process is set, thying to change it is like pushing a rope uphill. *sigh*
