  • I'd like to credit these creators for the music/remixes used in this video:
AlexBeQuiet for their remix of the Lane Boy intro from the Icy Tour.
PETRICHOR, for Heavydirtysoul, Fairly Local (80s Mix), Lane Boy, The Judge, Doubt and Mulberry Street.
Orphankid for the Stressed Out remix and AKMM for remixing the Grumps singing Stressed Out. I'd also like to thank the Grumps, for no particular reason, other than I love them. I'd also like to thank this month's Kofi supporter, Abolished! Don't worry, you'll get a more official shoutout in the credits of the next video. I guess I should also thank the boys, too, so.... Thanks, Josh. I hope Jim's doing well today.

Message man, is about the spiritual nature of his music as a means for transformation.
He talks about nowness and presence as a means of getting out of your mind.
And understanding that all the narrative he spins that we relate to is both truth and a narrative.
And while it comes close to a truth in a spiritual sense, through all of its meaning we have to be careful that some of the sadness does not become the message.
Otherwise people may reach powerful truth like whether to k*** themselves for example through something that looks like a deeper understanding of reality and pain.
But this is the danger of walking close to the truth.
Its like being under an illusion when you're high and everything makes sense.
Watch out what you take for the truth basically.

An excellent part 2. I really like how you compile both the lyric interpretations, the real life events surrounding the band, and cool editing and visuals.
Since you kinda asked our interpretation of Message Man, I always thought of it as people misreading the band’s intentions and message for their music. People saying their music is dangerous or bad because those people have misunderstood the songs’ meanings and purpose. “Only few understand.” That’s my perspective anyway.
Anyway, loving this series. Excited for the next one!

Message man is about writing music with the kind of themes that Tyler writes about. The song makes more sense when you imagine a comma between message and man
"Please use discretion when you're messing with the message, man"
The song is saying "you don't know what people feel or have been through, so be careful when writing about these feelings"

Not Today starts off with Tyler saying "you are out of my mind" as in "you don't know what I'm going through". But a friend comes along and says "not today", tears the curtains down and opens the windows, not letting him stay in a slump. At the end he says "I am out of my mind" for rejecting the friend at the beginning.

my interpretation of message man -(especially after the lore/story was confirmed and set place.[i was first introduced to twenty one pilots during the trench era, i think i officially called myself a twenty one pilots fan in late trench era, but never really called myself a die-hard fan until sai era.] i've always known that there was something more to their music since i started listening to it, and have been getting deeper and deeper ever since.)
    - is it's from Clancy's perspective, in a way. i see this especially in the lyric
~ Please use discretion when you're messin' with the message, man
These lyrics aren't for everyone, only few understand ~
please use discretion when you're messing with the message man, i see as Clancy saying; don't come after me i'm just the message man, i'm not the one that you're after.'
and the lyric, these lyrics aren't for everyone only few understand, is kind of a double meaning for me, only few understand about how much Tyler's music is talking about mental health and only few can relate to the struggles of mental health.
and only few understand / know that there is a deeper meaning and story behind the music.
especially as the dema story line is becoming more set in stone in trench, becoming more publicly known that there's a story behind the music.
(sorry, this is long and it might be a bit confusing. but i do have a more dema storyline interpretation of hometown, i've never saw the song in the way you described it but it makes sense and i do like/agree with it.)

    • @hotbutter8831
      @hotbutter8831 2 місяці тому

for hometown, i see it as
~ Where we're from, there's no sun, our hometown's in the dark ~
is tyler describing dema, a dark place with no sun. and as for why he's saying we, i interpret it as he's talking about himself and josh. or him talking about him and the other citizens of dema, to josh and the banditos. the lyric
~ I know, I know you can bring the fire, I can bring the bones
I know, I know you'll make the fire, my bones will make it grow ~
could be talking about how josh is the torch bearer, even though these concepts arent introduced until trench/the hiatus.

Love this!!! Thanks for putting in the hours to put this together! Love your humor and editing skills! 😆 As far as Not Today, I see it as Tyler preparing for the final battle - Goner. Like a video game - gotta grind and get good sleep and make 37 full heart meals before facing the big boss. During the last bit of the song I imagine a whole parade of friends/family/the clique marching along to that last (or thought to be last) confrontation. But then when we get there to Goner, all that support seems to disappear and Tyler has to contend with Blurryface alone (at least at first).

Ey, so message man interpretation. I don't think it's something super crazy.
    Near the beginning he says,
"I'm wanted and on the run
So I'm taking this moment to live in the future"
I think this encapsulates the song well. He is wanted or being hunted down by insecurities. Therefore he has to look to the future to hold out until the "morning" comes.
"So your brain knows to keep going even though hope
Is far from this moment but you would not know it"
If I had to speculate, the message man is hope for the future. If you disregard the message man, you will end up in a "self unalive* session". This can be hard because the moment of insecurity is so overwhelming that believing the "message man" can be difficult.
There are several references throughout the song that mention others like, "My people singing" or "they tried to suicidal session" or "hope you're dead cuz how could you sleep at a time like this". I think the song is Tyler warning others, telling them not to disregard hope aka the "message man".
"Together we'll lose this, remember the future
Remember that morning is when night is dead"
The first line seems to recontextualize the begin as himself and others running away. They are trying to "lose" the self unalive session attempts. They do this by looking to the future. The morning seems to be similar themes to Vessel, so I won't be anymore redundant with that.
    On a final note, the
    "no, no, no, no, no
    Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah"
seem to be the two halves, the present saying all is lost, and the future or the "message man" saying yeah, it'll be okay. Positivity vs negativity.
I had to bring this up, because this is the song that first sucked me into TOP when I heard it and thought about what he was saying. The depth struck me, or at least what I perceive as depth here 🤷‍♂️😅

    • @ChristopherWaddelow
      @ChristopherWaddelow 2 місяці тому

Okay, so after looking up a bit more. I think I missed part of the meaning. There's a lot of wild speculation on the internet about this song.
My other comment seems to be getting half of the song, while the other half seems to be addressing people who are delving into the messages of his music in too deep of a manner or rather using it to read into him.
It seems like the song is about the "message man" = hope for his fans and those who struggle.
And the "message, man" which is about distorting his messages to be about something more complex.
      "You don't know my brain
The way you know my name
      You don't know my heart
The way you know my face"
This part seems to be addressing people who interpret him as anything more than a man struggling like everyone else.
"People they rhyme like this, we're all impressed by this
They rip it, flip it but these are just triplets
Wrote this in three minutes, three words to a line
It's just poetry divided, I'm the kind of guy
Who takes every moment, he knows he can fight it
And music to use it, for others to use it"
This seems to be focusing on those who analyze the music and lyrics, but Tyler is focused, again, on simply helping himself and others through tough times with the music. It's not about being impressive with the lines or lyrics necessarily.
"Life is up here but you comment below
When the comments will always become common motivation
To promote you choose next episode"
This portion seems to be highlighting the disconnect between Tyler and viewers who are just looking for more content and helping creators get promoted with more views.
I really now can't get past the idea that this song is simultaneously aimed at two groups of people. Those struggling like him through mental health who need the message of hope to move on, and those sitting by the sidelines overcomplicating things. After all, the song is just about the message, man. 😂

    • @ZippyCheetah228
      @ZippyCheetah228 Місяць тому

I'm not exactly sure either, but I know they're in the song lyrics
Edit: Did some research, and I believe this is how the bishops names were found.
On dmaorg there's a violation code, 15398642_14. These numbers all match up to a song on Blurryface (ex. 1 being Heavydirty soul, 5 being Ride). There's 9 numbers and 9 circles on the Blurryface album cover. So each circle corresponds with a song.
A map of Dema was found which had nine circles in the center. Each of these circles had the name of a bishop. If you rotate the map so East is Up (the hidden message on the dmaorg error page: you are in violation. thEy mustn't know you were here. no one should ever find out About this. you can never tell anyone about thiS -- for The sake of the others' survIval, you muSt keep this silent. we mUst keeP silent. no one can know. no one can know. no o ne c an kn ow_) and match it up with the Blurryface album cover, each bishop name matches with a song, and the name can be found in the lyrics. (ex. Keons lines up with the Hds circle, and the name can be found in the lyrics "choKE ON Smoke")
      Hope that helps!

  • @nickowo5279
    @nickowo5279 16 днів тому

It's really hard to pinpoint message man, what it means in my head.
I think you should view it as Message, Man with a comma.
For me it's saying people that just listen to music for stimulation, not actually listening to the lyrics behind it, or put the lyrics somewhere in their bio not really questioning what they mean-
yk that could hurt people that could- yk make other people think differently about you.
It's basically just saying be careful with the messages that our songs give you, because at the end music isn't the same for everyone and not every song is interpreted the same way for everyone.
Especially with Twenty one pilots some of the lyrics demand a lot of thinking about them, so on a surface level it could mean something entirely different that it could mean when you really dig into the lyrics.
I don't think this is the best my words could explain the song but I can't think of anything else
