surprised nobody mentioned that Tear In My Heart is the same as Smithereens where the theme is completely thrown out the window because they're songs about his wife

I don't know how I never realised that. Funny that Smithereens is one of my least favourite and Tear In my Heart is one of my favourite of their songs

@@robertrobert1578 nah i disagree. i said this in a different comment but i think the problem is the production and the tone. The production just doesn’t fit the lyrics and i think the lyrics are often intentionally cringey and self deprecating. The humor and self awareness kinda gets buried in the big overdramatic production. I’m not a big fan of this album and it really didn’t age well but I would honestly say that the way some of the lyrics kinda break the fourth wall on this album is really clever in a way that you don’t see anywhere else.

Honestly would really like to see a re reaction to vessel, I know you did like that album a bit on first listen but I think seeing your perspective on that album which I feel like has aged far better than blurryface would be super interesting. Your initial reaction was what caused me to become open to music criticism. And I hated you at first. But, it slowly caused me to re-evaluate this album, and I honestly would give it a 7/10 now. I eventually subbed and I watch you a lot now. But it’s the album that got me into alt-Rock and got me through an incredibly tough time in my life. Blurryface is truly early Generation Z’s “Hybrid Theory”.

this is still such a bizarre album to me as generally a fan of the band, especially because this was the first of their album rollouts I was a fan through. because up until stressed out came out as a single, nobody I knew knew anything about top, and then everybody knew, so I've always wondered how that affected just people's thoughts on this album since it blew up in such a way I don't think anyone expected but yeah. this was fun thanks Brad haha
also they've literally only ever used Fairly Local as an interlude during live shows and it's the only context in which I think that song works well haha

I became a top fan at the blurryface era, but now appreciate vessel and trench more than bf. I think lyrically they are the superior albums, BUT I've always looked at bf songs like they are not written by a man who struggles with inner demons, instead by the demons themselves. So looking at it as a multilayered piece of art, I can still appreciate this approach of making music (not even mentioning the fundation of the lore layed down in bf)
So true, when relistening to this album I don't get as much joy as I did 4 years ago, but I still enjoy how the perspective completely changes once having the insight of "the lore" and all of that :)
Also, it's ironical how I used to despise Self Titled and now it's my fave
