Congrats on acquiring the new property and taking the next step so quickly! I appreciate your working with the big box pine, which looks good and is convenient. Good luck on the move.
The shelf is very nice and just shows what attention to detail can do. Glad to hear that your land purchase went thru. Let the fun begin!!!!
Congrats on the purchase of the new land, Jay. I followed a similar desire over 15 years ago and now live in a house on an island in the Pacific Northwest I designed myself and where I did almost everything except the shell, in-floor heat, rough-in plumbing and drywall ceilings and finishing.
A project like that can take its toll on the family, however. So make sure you take the time for them and yourself, even if that means delaying the current project. 10+ years after our occupancy certificate we still have stairs made out of two-by lumber. (But replacing those is on the schedule for the very near future, however. 😅)
Congratulations on the land acquisition and coming developments, Jay.
I love this video. No idea what you’re making. No horrible free music that people use on all these videos. Just the natural sounds even at higher speeds. It’s sad that we’ll never see a finish on it because I think it would be beautiful. Happy to hear the good news though.
Simple and effective shelves. All the best for the move
Congrats on the news! Always love new shop content!
Exciting times! Best of luck in the transition and can't wait to see the video of the new land!
I personally love pine. Congrats on your new adventure
Nice work on the shelf! I’m reminded that I really need a dado blade for some projects I have been planning on making.
Good luck to you and your family on your move, I love this shelf
Congratulations, Jay of the move. I've been following you since the beginning of your UA-cam journey. I hope the very best for you and your family in this next season of your life.
GRATS ON THE DEAL COMING THROUGH!! As to yellow pine furniture, I've heard of high-end art exhibits done in art galleries that showcase ONLY pine furniture...no stains allowed, only clear finishes. Besides, the Japanese use pines, cypress, and cedars all the time making furniture and no-one in their right mind questions that they make quality items.
Yes! Also good for you guys. Keep up the great job living debt free it will pay off later in life😮😊 There’s nothing like living worry free!👍
Nice, clean build!
Congratulations Jay! I’m a fan of SYP…as you mentioned, with careful consideration and planning, SYP is a great the greatest bang for your buck and looks great.
Congratulations on your great news! Thanks for the inspiration. I enjoy your content. God bless you, brother
Good Luck to you and family Jay.
Love your Channel Jay! As a fellow Detroiter, how about them Lions. That shelving unit looks as strong and sturdy as our boys. Good luck on the move!! If it is the Novi to South Lyon area, I will have to keep an eye open for you. Be safe and once again, thank you for showing your little accident, that is a great demonstration on just how fast an accident can happen to even an experienced woodworker.
OK, OK, I'VE KEPT MY MOUTH SHUT LONG ENOUGH...THE CLONING OF YOURSELF I CAN LET SLIDE BUT I'M CONVINCED THE SNAP @2:16 IS EDITING TRICKERY!
The cloning isn't the problem. It's inconspicuously getting rid of the clones after....
Man, it's really stuff I just can't bring myself to think about.@@crussey

Congratulations and I love the project. Very cool!
i'm building everything from box store pine ... bit hard to avoid the knots, do my best to select knot free, but sometimes its the lesser of 2 evils ... so i remove what i can and then fill with epoxy and wood dust mix, the everything gets stained ...
Congratulations on the new place. I can't wait to see the transformation of the new property and shop.
Great build and congrats on the land purchase. Exciting times (and busy) coming. Can't wait to see how things go. Good luck.
Jay, best of luck with the move! Can’t imagine what the future may hold.
I like knots. I'll sometimes deliberately use boards with a knot, especially for shelving. I think it adds some visual interest
Good luck. Can't wait to watch.
Congratulations Jay on the move! I'm sure you and your family will love living in the country. I look forward to all the new videos of you building out your new shop.
Congrats on the new property and nice project for your daughter.
Congratulations. Hope all goes well with the transition. I look forward to your honest and heartfelt video s, and, I learn a lot as well about tools and construction. Thank you. 😊
Nice build, glad your dreams are coming true
Congrats on the new property! For what it’s worth though, I think the grain patterns in syp is very underrated. I think they add visual interest like your chamfers and proud half laps.
Congratulations on the new place! It'll be fun to see you put a new shop together.
Congratulations on the land purchase. Best wishes, and thanks for sharing.
Congratulations to you and your family… looking forward to watching the roadside egg stand build!
Good points all, Jay. Thanks!
Exciting times ahead with the new property
Due to OCD, I now have to spend the rest of my day, flipping between 2:16 and 2:17 to "Spot the differences" of all the little things that moved around after the "Snap Magic" (like the safety glasses jumping onto your hat). That is one powerful snap ;).
The shelf turned out great great idea. Congratulations on the new property and best of luck on the move.
Congratulations Jay on the move! and thanks for sharing.
Congratulations!
Thanks Jay
Congrats on getting the land and the opportunity to build it all new!
Nice shop!
Nice project! Congratulations on the property purchase!
Congratulations, Jay! I know you will be extremely busy over the next few days, weeks, and months.
For a portable shop, consider purchasing a box trailer to house a portable shop. You'll need it when working on the new homestead.
Well, that was quick! Congrats, Jay ... happy for you guys. I remember when you built all that pine furniture ... great lessons in grain selection from that series. And the clones were working nonstop! lol Good luck with the move!
Your video editing is so cleaver!
Awesome Jay! Congratz
Congrats, sir! Will be fun to follow along. Been here since the apartment days…🎉
Whoo Hoo. It's happening. I do wish you all the Best / Success. That's a big life change. And to the project. Totally agree. Pick your wood. work around the problems and you have a very nice piece. I have to admit. When I saw you doing test fits and saw the oversize, I thought.. Oh No. Jay has miscalculated. Silly me. Wait until the end. Very nice project.
The level of quality you get out of framing lumber in the south vs what we get in the pacific NW is astonishing. There is no way I could ever get pine lumber that looks anything like that here.
In the Pacific Northwest we don't have Southern Yellow Pine. But...we do have Douglas Fir. I can easily see doing something like this in Doug Fir.
A couple years ago, I selected three really nice 2x12x8' Doug Fir planks and just crunched them up into 18" pieces and made cutting boards out of them! Simple, quick and easy boards meant to be hacked to pieces instead of works of art. They went out as gifts to family, and now they are clamoring for more.
I kinda wish we could get yellow pine up here. I spent some time in Alabama and got to work with it some. It is much stronger and far more stable than the pines in our area. I like working with pine...love the smell of it while machining it. One downside is pitch collection on bits and blades, but cleanup is pretty easy if you do it right after working the wood. Cook that stuff on by running tooling after the pine and you have a nightmare. 😂
Congrats, and good luck with the lengthy transition. I look forward to following along.
I can't even begin to imagine the stress you all will be under putting tie shop in storage while building the new shop and then the house. Good luck and just keep your eyes on the prize, everything will work out in the end.
thank you
Congratulations
Well done! Just need a lot of equipment to process the box store lumber.
nice work
It feels like you just moved into your current location.. time flies - we're gonna need some updates on this, hope it's all positive!
In the words of Ferris Bueller, Life moves fast...
Congrats on the land! How dry was the box store stuff? Probably didnt measure but did you let it sit for a while?
Sat on edge for 2 weeks in the shop. Climate controlled.
Are you staying in Mississippi or going North? Can’t wait to see all the new videos!
New Albany Mississippi area
Are you moving back to north Mississippi?
Hey Jay I’m the guy that made the replica of your angled 3 tier shelf and emailed you the pictures awhile ago. It is also one of my favorite projects I’ve ever made. I will be making this as well.
Very high speed! Hooah!
Ear protection ?
Why are you cutting with a mirror on your miter saw? 😂
Poor wood in the hands of a good craftsman will look better than good wood in the hands of a poor craftsman.
Why you call a hardware store a Box Store? Hmmmm
Congratulations!
Congratulations
Awesome curveball! Congratulations!
Congrats!
Congratulations on getting the deal signed.
Congrats on you new journey!
CONGRATULATIONS on the new property!
Sounds like a happy curveball. Congratulations and well wishes.
Exciting times ahead with the new property
Congrats on your upcoming move. I'm excited for you and your family!
What was the moisture content of your big box lumber? My understanding is that it is usually around 14%. Do you think you might get some excessive movement when placed in a heated house? Or will your attention to the pieces you used and how you cut them limit that? Everything I make is with air dried lumber, usually the best I get is around 12% unless I bring it inside in the winter, and I occasionally have some unfortunate movement.
Moving again???!!!! That would be so hard for me to do. And my shop is not even anywhere near the shop you've got. I wish for you a smooth move and getting your new shop up and running. Are you having to build a shop or is it an existing building/shop that you can modify up to Bates standards?
Congrats on the new property/home. Looking forward to all the content regarding that adventure! As you know, oil all that cast iron before putting it in storage or you'll be doing restoration content for a while.
CONGRATULATIONS! GOOD FOR YOU
exciting times ahead, things seem to move fast over there, or is it just the way everything seems to be falling into place?
Congrats on the land!
Congratulations!!
Cograts on the move.
Good luck on the move.

Nice job! I build furniture for my daughter when she went to college out of the same southern yellow pine. I found the key is to buy the larger boards and to pick them by looking at the end grain. I painted the desk and side table and for $60 she was really happy. Look for the tight end grain
MVP is the lumber cart between stations
Under rated for sure!
Proud half-lap joints
Awesome. Something to remember!
The proud, chamfered joints look great! Kinda reminds me of a little Greene & Greene style.
Congrats on the upcoming move!
Lovely build. And congratulations on the land. It’s going to be an adventure. I have gone through my own somewhere around 8 times in 5 years now. Best of luck.
Great build! Congratulations on you next adventure, I know you willl have a great time.
that turned out great! i just watched another video where they built their workbench base out of syp using the same methods (cutting out the center portion)...great money saver for some decent material. definitely learned something new...
Congrats on the purchase Jay!
