We review different smart switches that don't require a neutral wire. In my experience the Lutron Caseta and Leviton Smart Switches that don't require a Neutral wire have been reliable, easy to install smart switches that are easy to use.
Both the Leviton and Lutron Smart Switches that don't require a neutral require have very similar features. They both allow you to remotely control your lighting from your phone but they also both work with smart voice assistants like Alexa, Google Home and Siri so that you can control your lighting with your voice.
Most but not all home built after 1980 will have a neutral wire in the switch box, but many older homes don't have a neutral wire in the switch box which is required for many types of smart light switches.
The Leviton and Lutron smart switches don't require a neutral wire in the switch box but they will also work even in homes that do have a neutral wire in the switch box meaning they are compatible with standard residential wiring.

Thanks for the video. I use Lutron for most switches, but also use Aqara in a couple key locations as they are the only manufacturer, to my knowledge, that sells a double rocker switch. My home was build in the late 40’s and have a few double rocker switches. So far Aqara has been solid.

Thanks for this video and for mentioning that Leviton has a no-neutral smart switch (not dimmer) as I am dealing with a non-dimmable LED porch light. Hopefully the switch you mentioned will work. I'll do more research but at least I have a good basic explanation and starting point. Thanks.

Is there a 3-way variant of the Leviton switch?

You need to change the title of the video as you are talking about smart dimmers and not smart switches. Yes Caseta are very reliable and have had them working for over 12 years.

Does anybody know where I can get a smart light switch with no neutral and a remote control that is not my phone?

Lutron Caseta supports the Pico Remote, which I think is what you're asking for.

I'm seeing on Lutron's site that their non dimmer switches require a neutral wire. Is there a reason why the dimmer doesn't require a neutral but the regular switch does if they're both using the hub? I'm leaning toward the Leviton anyway but everyone raves about the reliability of the Lutrons so I don't want to write them off completely.

Dimmers are only for controlling lights. Switches are for controlling literally anything, such as outlets. Lights are always a closed circuit (unless you remove the bulb) so they're capable of being the return path for the tiny bit of current necessary for the smart switch to be awake waiting for commands from the hub while the switch is off (it's a tiny amount so you shouldn't see the lights illuminate). Random non-lighting loads are not always a closed circuit when they're off, for example if your smart switch is controlling an outlet or something with its own power switch. If you decide to unplug the load from the outlet, or turn off a physical switch on the load, then you've got an open circuit, which is not a viable return path for the smart switch to stay awake. Basically it's a question of powering the smart switch "from hot to smart switch to random device to neutral" (which only works for lighting and a few other scenarios) versus "from hot to smart switch to neutral" (which works for every possible load). Dimmers can only exist in the first scenario, so they're often built to rely on the lighting load acting as the neutral.

Why can’t they just make a smart switch that just goes over the switch you have. And not unplug anything. Make a box that flicks the toggle up or down lol sorry Amazon not happening
