I was hoping they would come up with something like this, I really wish they would’ve kept the same price and maybe lowered the old switches by $10 though
I guess these will have to go in my new house when we move next year. My current plays already has the original switches/dimmers. Yes $70 is well worth it. Lutron Caséta is the best solution IMO.
I’m not sure if I’m sold on the method they implemented to turn the light back on to the last used brightness setting. Looks like it can only be set manually on the switch itself which is pretty stupid for a smart light switch that is going to be controlled with smart assistants, scenes, apps, etc. Why not just let us program the On button on the existing switches to turn the light back on to its previous brightness setting?
Just picked up a starter kit after watching this to try these but I’m going crazy. It seems that Lutron doesn’t have a last brightness memory setting for their switches. Their old dimmers didn’t have at all but I figured the new diva would since it has a physical slider. If you physically press the button, it will go to slider brightness but any turn on from voice command always goes to 100%! I don’t get why they do this? I know they have a new “trim” setting but that still doesn’t solve if you want to go brighter at some times. Am I missing something???
Am I the only person who wants more contemporary/futuristic looks in a smart switch? The ONLY one I've found yet that ticks those boxes for me is the Eve switch. Everything is either ugly or just looks like a normal switch. Which to me seems boring :) I must be alone though given the product space.

Hello I have 3 bathroom that use regular 3 switches. 2 of the 3 switches control the mirror light and ceiling lights. The 1 switch control the fan (not a ceiling fan). Does your product work in each of my bathroom and what product should I get?
I am a big fan of Lutron Caseta products. I have spent a small fortune on my system. I currently have 124 devices (switches, dimmers, and Pico remotes) on two hubs. I hit the 75 device limit and though I was screwed. I got a second hub and continued on. HomeKit supports multiple hubs, so everything is seamless. My only issue is I have 8 HomePods, original full size and minis. I saw on one of your videos that anything more then 4 may be an issue. I also have 8 AppleTVs that want to be hubs. The iPhone, iPad and Mac interfaces work fine, just a bit undependable using Seri voice control with the HomePods. Apple needs to add a switch in the HomeKit app to keep a HomePod or AppleTV from being a hub.
@@compudude Or you could keep one ATV and get a bunch of Roku 4K sticks each for 1/4 of the price of an ATV and, as far as I can tell, just as good if not better. I have one ATV so I can use Homekit voice features and 4 Roku sticks which duplicate the smart TV options of my various TVs but IMO work better than the TV remotes and software. (Example of my last statement, I have a 65" 2017 LG OLED that won't allow UA-cam voting or various other common activities because LG took my $3,000 and promptly quit upgrading their software or choked down UA-cam and others dropping support). Great review, Shane. But, you nailed my likely problem here as well: if I try one of these I’m likely to want to replace all of my dimmers and I just recently finished installing the original Lutron dimmers everywhere! As another voice in the chorus, Lutron are simply SIFI (set or & forget it). They just work and do so all the time.
My Levitons have been SIFI as well. For more than five years. Caveat: Once I upgraded my wifi network with a mesh router set up. AND, they match perfectly all the other Leviton switches and outlets in my house. AND, I they fit perfectly in the same, oversize nylon device covers I've used throughout the house. AND, I can change their colors using available, standard Leviton products. AND, they cost a bit less (at least they did when I bought them. I haven't looked in a while.) Where they don't compete with the Lutron is, on three way circuits - and my house must have teen or fifteen of those - you have to use a compatible, Leviton complimentary switch. These are much cheaper than the smart switch itself, but it does add to the total installed cost. On the plus side, the compatible switches are also wirelessly enabled so, they can and do receive signal. On the minus side, depending on one's perspective, is that the Leviton's are smart home app specific. But, I'm pretty much a dedicated Homekit user. No Google Home or Alexa here. AND, they use wifi. I set out trying to avoid hubs and put everything on wifi seeing it as one less complication and potential problem to have to trouble shoot as well as an extra, proprietary device you have to purchase. But, I've been playing with Aqara (partially thanks to Shane) and Zigbee in a second home I have where my budget wifi set up is limited to fifteen device maximum and the Aqara hub counts only as one, I'm starting to like hubs. They seem much faster and better signal coverage. At least with Zigbee. YMMV. What I have noticed is that Leviton has not advertised their lineup far and wide and the retailers aren't pushing them either. Not like their competitors. I really think they missed the opportunity here. None-the-less, I'm about to try out the Lutron product as I snagged a Lutron Diva Smart Dimmer Starter Kit for next to nothing by agreeing to review it on the retailer's website. If it works, I may consider going that way. If not, I'll just blame Shane. 😄
I reached out to Lutron about double switches etc... in a single pole space. They said that the size is a problem for LED lighting and smart tech makes things even bigger. I needed a double LED switch with a dimmer in a single gang. I think they will come up with this feature as soon as they can get the components small enough to accommodate the code space requirements inside a box. I highly doubt they are ignoring it but waiting until the tech is there in an affordable format. For now it is not "that" much work to add a bigger box and do some mudding and painting for the extra switch and probably much more comfortable to fit the wires in the small space, especially in a bathroom that requires 20 amp circuits if all in one circuit.
Any chance you tested these new switches with the geofencing feature for a scene, like arrive home? I just replaced the original caseta smart switch in my kitchen with the new Claro, because I also didn’t like the design of the original. The geofence, for arriving home, I had previously set up no longer works with the new Claro switch. i worked with Lutron support but they were unable to figure out exactly wha the problem is. They seem to think it might be a problem with a recent apple iOS update, but who knows. Just wondered if you had encountered this also. Thanks!
Other than looks, is there any other differences? I have over 30+ Lutron Caseta switches in my home, just wondering if there is an upgrade over the older ones.
Ah I was really hoping there would be no neutral, non-dimmer option. Sadly, my house is old and doesn’t have neutral wires. I use non-flicker (slo-mo at 240fps), high quality led bulbs from Waveform Lighting but they don’t dim. If you leave the dimmer on max brightness, is the problem with non-dimmable bulbs just that they will flicker when you turn the light off?
It’s pricey but the Lutron PD-5WS-DV-WH is exactly what you’re looking for. I used four of them in my older home for some non dimmable no neutral action. They work like a charm. I got mine for $90 from a local electrical supply house.
But yeah that’s basically what the problem will be if you use a non-dimmable bulb with a dimmer switch, and it can damage the bulb as well in a lot of cases
The absolute worst thing about lutron is that they don't remember what brightness they were set at. Turning them on makes them full brightness every time. Is it still an issue with these new ones???
Came here to ask the same thing. I've also really enjoyed being able to set brightness level on some switches via automation while they're off so that "on" means different levels throughout the day.
The Eve device is just a switch - not a dimmer. That's ok, but if you wanted switches and dimmers all with the same design aesthetic, Eve doesn't currently offer a solution for that. Sure wish they did though.
This will be interesting. I don't think it makes sense to compare the Lutron Diva to the Eve switch. As Brian says, one is a dimmer, and one is a switch. It would make more sense to compare the new Lutron Claro switch to the new Eve Switch. Both require a neutral. Both can work in 3 way switch setups. One requires a hub, one doesn't. The Eve should also be a bit cheaper. As far as specs go, they look very similar. Might just come down to if you are already invested in the Lutron system and/or price. As soon as I get my hands on the Eve switch, I'll do a review and I'm sure make some comparisons.
Shane, when you create two different wi-fi networks with the idea of dedicating one for smart devices…in what network do you put all of your Apple devices? This includes your laptop, your Apple TV, iPhones, iPads, and your home pods. All this considering that you would think all these devices need to be in the same network in order to be able to use Apple’s “Home Sharing” feature.
If I have two switches for living room. Do I need two dimmers or can I have one dimmer and then one smart on/off switch on the other side? Will two dimmers switches for one light work?
Wifey thinks the can lights in the kitchen are too bright. This will be perfect for fixing that issue *and* give me HK control to boot. Now I need to find a source for them.
I had the system set up and the lamp dimmer started flashing so I brought a new dimmer but when I plugged in the dimmer and then the lamp the wall switch did not work ?? Help
Great video! With either the old Lutron or the new, can I resolve this issue, if yes how and what do I need? My granddaughter has two sets of lights and each is on a separate 3-way hardwire connection. Both are ceiling lights and are located in different areas of the kitchen. Switches are in four different locations. She wants to have both sets of lights controlled by one set of switches where all of the lights come on or off at the same time. Is this possible with the Lutron switches or should I just get two Lutron kits (Caséta Wireless Smart Lighting Dimmer Switch and Remote Kit for Wall and Ceiling Lights, P-PKG1W-WH-R, White) or one (Caseta Wireless Smart Lighting Dimmer Switch (2 Count) Starter Kit with Smart Bridge).
That's a good question. I haven't heard anything about that. Would be nice. I can ask and try to find out. Lutron is usually pretty quiet about new and upcoming products. They don't seem to make any "promises" so they probably wouldn't mention it until it's ready to ship, even if they do have plans.
Works with the old switch in 3-way... I like that! So you're saying I can leave the old switch at one entry and just put the new dimmer in the primary entry of my home theater. Perfect! Sounds like I do need the bridge or hub to go with them and my next question is, can this be controlled by my Harmony Elite remote? The main lights in the room are easy, just on/off and dim but I'm not sure how I'm going to control the RGB lights in the steps or behind the acoustic panels. There are three switches by each entry door, one for the main lights and two that control outlets in the control room. Maybe just use three of these Lutrons and not worry about having remote control over the RGB? Know of any options for RGB that would work with the Harmony?
I use EcoSmart zigbee bulbs with tunable white color and brightness currently just controlled with voice and scenes, can I install one of these dimmer switches and be able to keep the bulbs? My wife needs physical control, but I like the ability to tune the white with time of day and adjust the brightness. Long story short, can I use a smart switch with smart bulbs and be able to dim with the switch
Love Lutron. I’m curious about the dimmer-if it has a slider on it, let’s say you physically pushed the slider to dim it to 20%. Now, if you go in the app and raise it brighter, how does it reconcile having the physical slider still low on the switch? Does it just ignore the slider until it’s actually moved again? I’m excited there’s a new Lutron product. How long was the original Caseta around? Gotta be a pretty long time!!
Yes, that's right. If you look around 6:50 when controlling with the app, the LED bar will change, but obviously the physical slider doesn't move. Next time you use the physical slider the brightness will jump to wherever the slider is. I think that was executed quite well in the design. And yes, the original Lutron Caseta dimmers and switches have been around for a while...longer than I've been building a smart home.
@@ShaneCreates can’t say I’m with you on the well executed design part here Shane. I think it would be much better to just allow us to program the On button to be able to turn the light back on to it’s previous setting on the existing dimmer switches. This just seems like over complicating things and forcing users to buy more switches to fix a problem they created, like you mentioned you were considering yourself in the video.
I was curious about that myself, particularly if it was at the max on way or another and couldn't go any further. Seems like a button similar to inovelli wouldve made sense
@@morells09 Check out the the Lutron PD-5NE. It has a favorite button just like on the Pico remotes along with some other techie features such as being able to reverse the phase for LED lights to prevent flicker.
@@nicholasfiorello5845 these are what I’ve been using! I just want Caseta switches to be able to be programmed to resume to the previously used brightness when the switch is turned on, instead of always defaulting to 100% brightness.
the switches form a mesh network that communicates back to the hub. the switches don't connect to wifi. only the hub connects to your home network (with ethernet not wifi).
I wish they made a matching pico remote, also interesting they used a slider for the dimming. We've got caseta through out our home, and the lack of tactile feel is only downside which this would solve but until they make matching picos and fan switches those would still look out of place
Its unlikely they will make a pico like this because of the power requirement for the LEDs on the slider - Pico's must run in a very low power profile - this would massively cut the battery life. I suppose it would be possible to just remove the slider LED's for the pico but then it wouldn't be an entirely consistent experience. Given the number of different pico's Lutron has - I don't really see it happening.
@@alanmoore2197 yeah it’s not likely to happen but for an entirely different reason actually. The LEDs are a good point, I noticed our picos have a greenish light which doesn’t match the new style, I could put the add on switch in for on/off at the secondary locations but I don’t really want to have to rewire both sides again. So for now I’ll have the new claro and divas at primary locations and picos in others. I also looked at doing custom 4 button scene control picos in some spots but haven’t gone through with that yet
@@BrandonDoyleMN I have many scene picos, including custom printed ones. The best 4B picos are actually the PJ2-4B-GWH-P01/P02/P03 types (pre-printed Std. labels) they are functionally different than all other 4B picos - even the custom ones. Any button can be a scene with any devices in your home at any level and each button can be a quite different group of devices. This is very powerful. On all other 4B picos the bottom button is a dedicated off and all the buttons must control the same group of devices (typically ALL the lights in a single room).I swapped the custom printed label buttons to these pico's for the better functionality. Its not always important - but sometimes it is critical. Hint: describing the Pico differences with examples of usage could make for a good video for the Lutron faithful (Lutron certainly doesn't do a good job of it).
@@alanmoore2197 interesting, I previously thought you could assign each button to a light and have that do both on and off but my Lutron rep locally explained that the Caseta version only does scenes. Apparently RA2 and above have more options
It only comes in white right now. All of my existing caseta are black. That it was available in black was half of the reason I first invested in the caseta ecosystem. When will black be available because I want about 5 or 6 of them?
I really expected any design updates for Caseta to use the Sunnata design. At $70 per device, I'm disappointed they do not as it solves the design conflict of having remote software controls AND a physical slider for the light level. I am glad they are offering an alternative to the Maestro design however and would still consider going the Diva route if I'm not able to justify going all-in on RA3.
Agreed 100%, we currently have caseta and want sunnata design but don't want to completely switch to ra3 at once. This would've been a good compromise but difficult to justify replacing a $50-60 switch with a $70 one. Maybe we'll see a ton of used caseta dimmers on eBay soon?
That would be nice, but I wouldn’t ever expect that. Lutron has always been highly resistant to cannibalizing their higher tier products. In many peoples opinions, they actively held back common and easy to implement features to create differentiation in their product lines. It would seem totally out of character for them to offer their new Ra3 switch in caseta.
My Hunter Ceiling Fan stopped working under HomeKit and their own Hunter App. Not sure if it has to do with the software update from Apple. What do you recommend for smart Homekit Ceiling Light/Fan? It here is any Smart Switch for Fan/Light combo?
This new switches will fit with my current Lutron "dumb" switches. Would love video on how to incorporate them into 3-way and 4-way applications with "dumb" switches. So happy this came out as I was just about to pull the tripe on the Caseta. New design will blend in perfectly with my current setup!
Glad to hear these will be a good solution. 3 way switch setups (2 switches controlling one light) should work with your existing dumb switch, but 4-way (3 switches controlling one light) and higher will require the accessory switch mentioned.
@@ShaneCreates this makes no sense to me. Three way switches use traveler wires. Whether those remote wires go to just one three way or several four way and a final three way doesn’t change the electrical characteristics of the first set of traveler wires. I use the Shelly smart dimmer with 3 way, 4 way, and more switches and it all works the same as a single 2 way switch.
Problem is that they are leading edge; modern lights need trailing edge to be smooth and prolong life. Also, there is a suggestion that the dimming range is limited?
I agree; I held off on Caseta because of the terrible cluttered button design. New rocker and slider is the way to go. Excited to pick some up, but at that asking price, no way I would buy without a sale.
Hey Shane! If you hook up a smart dimmer in a 3 way with a traditional on off switch, do you just have dimming at the smart and on off at the other, seems obvious maybe, but if you have the smart switch dimmer and then flip the traditional switch does it shut it off or put it at full brightness? Etc.
Very timely, I just installed some of the Caseta switches and wife was complaining about the form factor :), we can still return them, so might shift gears. Did you get any information on when these might show up for sale? I didn't see them yet on any of the major sites.
That's great! Yea, they should be available now. Check the Home Depot link in the video description. But I have heard that some locations have had some issues running out of stock. It says they are available for me, but that might vary based on location.
The rocker switch action is opposite to a normal UK light switch. We normally press the bottom of a switch to turn a light on. In the US, what’s the normal way?
In the U.S., we press the top for "on" and the bottom for "off". Can you install these "upside-down" so they function like the UK dimmers you're used to?
Would it work with dimmable recessed lighting with integrated night lights? I have basic dimmable switches but they don't work properly specially with the integrated night light part.
Generally smart switches and smart bulbs don't play well together. If someone turns the light switch off, it will kill the connectivity of the smart bulb. Take a look at the Lutron Aurora as a good solution if using traditional switches with Phillips Hue bulbs.
If i have a home decorations Calloway 15” color changing dimmable led saucer style light can the lutron switch control the color as well as the dimming
@@ShaneCreates thank you! How do I know if they cut the power or not (others I mean)? Or what’s your recommendation since I need all my lights to be smart but also need a physical way to control them?
Great video! I’ve recently bought into the Caseta system after loving my previous Maestro dimmers. One question: can you use a Caseta Claro switch without a dimmer and still get the on/off fading like I have with my “basic” Caseta switch and “dumb” Maestro LED+ dimmer while being able to control the light from the app? Thank you and you’ve got a new subscriber!
I have been using them with dimmable LED bulbs. You can check the bulb compatibility checker link in the video description for more. These should not be used with a fan. I would use the Lutron Caseta fan switches for a ceiling fan.
Does anyone know if you can use two of the dimmers in a virtual 3 way configuration? I don’t have the traveler wire and I’d hate to have a pico remote with buttons for one dimmer and then the slider for the other.
I cannot seem to find this Diva dimmer by itself anywhere....I already have the Lutron smart hub. Can you share link to the single item, not the starter kit please.
The Home Depot link is in the video description. It seems to be unavailable in some locations and limited availability in others. It is available to purchase using that link for me.
Great stuff Shane. Now if only Caseta would work flawlessly with LEDs. I know the compatibility tool exists. It lies to me. I’ve tried several “compatible” LEDs, but they all flicker from time to time. Pop in some incandescents, problem goes away. Does the “LED+” classification change this?
SOLD. This is a home run for me. The Caseta switch appearance (and utility... I like a switch that's easier to operate without looking) has always been the biggest turn off, and the reason I haven't installed more, despite the undeniable utility of the ones I caved on. I'll be replacing the old ones as fast as I can with these new ones! Now we just need an updated Pico switch to match the new appearance.
It shows up in homekit as a light, not a button. Since it is hardwired to the light fixture, it will always control that light fixture. You can configure an automation to trigger other homekit devices or scenes when this light turns on or off, etc.
Thanks for watching! I'm not sure specifically on those bulbs. I put a link to Lutron's "Compatibility Checker" tool in my video description. Maybe that will help.
Hard-wired smart switches and smart bulbs generally do not play well together. I would look at the wireless Hue Dimmer switches if you want something that works with your hue bulbs.
@@ShaneCreates I greatly appreciate it Shane! Do you know if they have a dual wall plate that would work with the hue dimmer, and a lutron fan control? Like a double gang wall plate that would fit
Hi fantastic video again I am redecorating my home changing my lights switch all over my home in the UK we had rushes smart switch not like the US so what I did order a the cheapest American smart light switch to see if it works on the UK bad new it blew up the smart switch I was gutted
If the dimming is controlled by that slider thing, then how does a remote dummy 3 way switch control dimming? I’m guessing it can’t. That’s a big limitation. When I’m installing a Shelly smart dimmer with existing 4 way switches all I need to do is replace the old toggle switches with dumb momentary push button switches and all locations are able to control the dimming by holding the button. I don’t need more than one smart device no matter how many switches are in the circuit. I’m trying to understand how this smart switch compares but the video doesn’t show any remote switches that are dumb.
I've been trying to limit the bridges I need so I've been trying to use other switches (mainly Aqara since I'm already using their hub for my security system). Wondering if you think it's worth investing in the more expensive switches and the Lutron bridge over using Aqara and Eve. Trying to get as many pieces that will be Thread or Zigbee.
Personally I have no issues using a bridge if it means I get reliable products working in my smart home. I know not everyone has that opinion. If it fits in your budget, I do think Lutron is worth it. I don't think you'll regret having Lutron switches. That said, I think Aqara is a great budget friendly option. If you don't need dimmers, then I haven no issues with Aqara switches. They are very reliable too in my experience. I have yet to use the new Eve switch, so time will tell on that one.
I absolutely love my Caséta dimmers but they should have designed them like this in the first place. They didn’t want to undermine their mid grade Radio RA product line at the time, which is now almost obsolete.
I have a question concerning smart switches that hopefully somebody here in the comment section can answer for me. So I have two lamps in my living room that I want to have turned on when I hit my light switch. Only one of those is connected to the same circuit as the switch. Would a smart switch be able to turn on the other lamp as well?
This is so awesome - For the last month I've been looking for a hard-wired three-way switch setup that have the "tap up to turn on and down to turn off." Didn't even need to be wifi compatible, just able to talk to each other through travelers. And today it exists! Of course I can't actually FIND any to purchase lol. Where can I buy the Claro smart switches?
If anyone was like me and ran out to homedepot to pick these up only to discover that the directions are only for single pole instillation, here is the link to Lutron’s video on UA-cam for the 3 way installation. I was able to install the Diva without the instructions but the other switch wouldn’t turn the light on or off. The video explains to use the included jumper wire as well as what to do at the second switch. Other than the lack of 3 way installation guide I’m excited about the new switches, the Diva and Claro smart switches I already installed are working great and I plan to install more over time (or as Home Depot get’s them back in stock). Just picked up a starter kit after watching this to try these but I’m going crazy. It seems that Lutron doesn’t have a last brightness memory setting for their switches. Their old dimmers didn’t have at all but I figured the new diva would since it has a physical slider.

Awesome improvements. Sucks they are ignoring coming out with a fan & light combo smart switch.
I need this!
I always spent the money on lutron products even just the plain Diva dimmer. always the better overall quality
Agreed
Is there way to set up default brightness level after I turn off snd turn back on.
Thank you for the video! No neutral required is a huge product feature. Hopefully it works fine regardless of what is on the load side of the circuit.
@@goldintouch yeah I’ve had to grab a couple of these myself unfortunately and they are way overpriced just due to the niche use case I guess
I'm in Lutron heaven!
Thoughts on this vs. holding out for Eve's new Thread-powered switch (coming in October, I believe)?
Help
Lutron is the best. I love all their products. Thanks for a great new video.
Thanks for watching!
Any idea if they'll be releasing a similar paddle style fan control too?
That's a good question. I haven't heard anything about that. Would be nice. I can ask and try to find out. Lutron is usually pretty quiet about new and upcoming products. They don't seem to make any "promises" so they probably wouldn't mention it until it's ready to ship, even if they do have plans.
Wouldn't the dimmer switch work for fan speed control (If you have 2 separate switches for light and fan)?
Ugg just bought the older style with the buttons. I wish they would make one that looks like a standard switch.
"Top Shelf" videos every time ... great channel ... thank you ... we are excited about Lutron dimmers ...
Thank you! 🙏🏼
Am I right that the previous Caseta switches in 3-way use needed you to terminate one end of the 3-way and use a Pico remote in its place?
If you can use the old 3-way switch in one end, that means that you are not required to buy the pico remote for such end?
no need for pico remote. you can use the old switch or their new accessory switch.
It doesn’t matter how far are each smart devices from the hub? Or is it just required that the smart devices themselves to reach Wi-Fi signal?
the switches form a mesh network that communicates back to the hub. the switches don't connect to wifi. only the hub connects to your home network (with ethernet not wifi).
Hey Shane, any chance you’ll be reviewing the Brilliant Smart Home Control?
Awesome news! Hopefully there is still a bulk discount on 3+ switches at Home Depot.
I loved your English and I would like to take a class with a native like you
These switches are definitely worth the cost. They simply work.
The Lutron Sunnata touch dimmer has an unusual wiring setup on the mechanical switch side of a three way.
It only comes in white right now. All of my existing caseta are black. That it was available in black was half of the reason I first invested in the caseta ecosystem. When will black be available because I want about 5 or 6 of them?
Do you have a link to the smart hub device?
Can I have a HomeKit smart home without switches? Can I just use Siri, HomeKit, NFC tags, and/or motion censors?
I don't think there are any native HomeKit switches for a fan/light combo that I'm aware of.
Shane- what are the multi gang screwless faceplates you use with the Lurton equipment ?
Nice. The new design is less busy than the others. On another note, what lights are you using for your studio background?
Just some cheap RGB flood lights from amazon, plugged into a smart plug.
Problem is that they are leading edge; modern lights need trailing edge to be smooth and prolong life. Also, there is a suggestion that the dimming range is limited?
Please tell me what stand that is for your iPad, I NEED it.

6:32 Haha, you said Dim Sum. Now I'm hungry 🤣
I dont understand the purpose of the Pica. Please help me understand: why would i need a Pica?
if you want a remote
Great video. So we need a smart bridge for these switches to work?
Yes that’s correct.
Lutron is WIN.
Do you need to use the lutron hub to operate them with a smartphone?
yes
I agree; I held off on Caseta because of the terrible cluttered button design. New rocker and slider is the way to go. Excited to pick some up, but at that asking price, no way I would buy without a sale.
Maybe we’ll get lucky with Black Friday around the corner.
Do they ever go on sale? I am purchasing all of these now but figure I am reducing some costs you can use existing mechanical switches.
Awesome review as always. Will definitely be picking a few of each type up when they come out
Doesn't seem like it's available in home depot yet. Any early birds know where to buy?
The purchase link is now live on Home Depot: geni.us/LutronDivaHD
Great video! Any idea if these will work with harmony ultimate remote? Also, can you do scene lighting with them? Thanks
Hey Shane! If you hook up a smart dimmer in a 3 way with a traditional on off switch, do you just have dimming at the smart and on off at the other, seems obvious maybe, but if you have the smart switch dimmer and then flip the traditional switch does it shut it off or put it at full brightness? Etc.
Wonder how lutron will implement the new matter standard. Hopefully a smooth transition!
Do these switches work when philips hue lightbulbs are connected?
No, smart switches and smart bulbs generally don't play well together.
@@ShaneCreates Thanks, the ugly switch life continues 😩
Are all Diva switches Caeta or are there other older Diva switches that are not Caseta? Thank you!
There are many non smart Diva switches. Look specifically for the Caseta Diva switch.
I've been thinking abt making a smart home but not sure if Philips hue can work with normal switches could u help me out pls
The dimmer is not able to change the colors.
Do does switches cut the power off or do they work with smart bulbs?
It will cut the power. Most smart switches don't play well with smart bulbs.
@@ShaneCreates thank you! How do I know if they cut the power or not (others I mean)? Or what’s your recommendation since I need all my lights to be smart but also need a physical way to control them?
Just installed these today, so far so good 💃🏾
Great video!
Have you had any problems or tried them with a fan? What bulbs do you find work best?
It's at Home Depot and that's it
So will I need their bridge to use Lutron? Just checking before I dive into the Lutron rabbit hole
Yes, correct.
Thank you. Got the bridge and today I installed 4 Diva smart switches, 1 Pico remote, and picking up a Claro smart switch tomorrow. It’s over!
Awesome but geez I just bought and installed a bunch of Caseta switches. What I hate is when it’s dark hard to find the on button.
I agree. These should be much easier to use in the dark.
One thing I’m confused about…can you set the switch to activate a ‘scene’ from home kit with a button push?
It shows up in homekit as a light, not a button. Since it is hardwired to the light fixture, it will always control that light fixture. You can configure an automation to trigger other homekit devices or scenes when this light turns on or off, etc.
Great review, love your videos!! Do you know if these dimmers are compatible with the Halo “canless” ceiling down lights (HLBSL4)?
Thanks for watching! I'm not sure specifically on those bulbs. I put a link to Lutron's "Compatibility Checker" tool in my video description. Maybe that will help.
Do these dimmable switches work with the hue system?
Hard-wired smart switches and smart bulbs generally do not play well together. I would look at the wireless Hue Dimmer switches if you want something that works with your hue bulbs.
@@ShaneCreates I greatly appreciate it Shane! Do you know if they have a dual wall plate that would work with the hue dimmer, and a lutron fan control? Like a double gang wall plate that would fit
Probably not by Phillips hue but I’ve seen several 3D printed plate covers and mounts for these types of switches on Etsy and similar sites.
Whats the difference between the Diva and the Claro or did I miss it?
Diva is dimmable. Claro is just a switch. And accessory switch
Hi fantastic video again I am redecorating my home changing my lights switch all over my home in the UK we had rushes smart switch not like the US so what I did order a the cheapest American smart light switch to see if it works on the UK bad new it blew up the smart switch I was gutted
Oh no, that's not good. Yea you definitely only want to use smart switches that are intended for your region. US uses 120V and UK uses 240V
It’s a no brainer to me, take my money!
I expected the physical dimmer switch would move when controlling it with phone. but it doesn't look like that lol..
I absolutely love my Caséta dimmers but they should have designed them like this in the first place. They didn’t want to undermine their mid grade Radio RA product line at the time, which is now almost obsolete.
That's totally the reason. It's ridiculous.
Good video except... The multi location is so you can dim from more than one location. You won't need anything special for 4way switching.
Can these switches be set to turn on/off automatically either on a schedule or via a motion sensor?
Yes
I have a question concerning smart switches that hopefully somebody here in the comment section can answer for me.
So I have two lamps in my living room that I want to have turned on when I hit my light switch. Only one of those is connected to the same circuit as the switch. Would a smart switch be able to turn on the other lamp as well?
You can program a Kasa or Lutron smart switch to also control a smart plug from the same make.
Would you share the part numbers for the dimmer and the switch?
Here is the link. It's now live on Home Depot: geni.us/LutronDivaHD
Will these work with Phillips Hue bulbs?
Smart switches and smart bulbs generally don’t play well together. If you turn of the smart switch it kills the connection to your smart bulb.
Link for 3 way installation…. ua-cam.com/video/E7Wys8Rd_Y8/v-deo.html
I hope they make regular light switches that doesn’t need the neutral wire. My house is old, I don’t want to spend a lot of money rewiring my whole house light switches lines
At last! Nice design . They will probably be too expensive in Canada …
Hey Shane. Love the video! This might be a silly question, but does anyone know if this would work with a fan? I have a ceiling fan that has many speed modes so I was hoping to use something exactly like this for that
Thanks! I don't think this would work for a fan. I would look at the Lutron Fan Controller geni.us/LutronFa
It would give you various fan speeds and they work great.
The “new” form factor is what their system from 20 yrs ago looked like. We are swapping out the old system because it can’t deal with dimming leds.
Will these work if I have a single switch that controls a ceiling fan + light combo?
You might be able to use the Claro on/off switch but the dimmer would probably introduce issues.
