Hi I have a 6.5 gm turbo diesel, after a full rebuild, I have fuel to the injection pump but no fuel coming to injection lines, all electric working, any idea?
I’ve been watching your videos for a bit now and just realized I never subscribed 🤦♂️ But your channel has really made me want to get a 6.5 crew cab. I just bought a 454 ccsb and I wish I would’ve got a diesel instead 😂
First off thank you dit watching the videos and subscribing, I do greatly appreciate it. There are plenty of them out there man, I'm sure you'll find one eventually. 454 is still a great motor in my opinion man, plenty of room for upgrades and power gains 👍
what do you do if you have a electric injection pump and you put the manual injection pump. Do you have to do any upgrades to the 4160e transmission to work?
@@JessePelkey1 brakes up when accelerating I did change the injectors but still dose it hard starting sometimes smoke out the oil dipstick tub truck only has 160000 on it
I could see this happening more or less with a tuner. I believe there are select position tuners even for the later model 65 that help make this possible
You can and they are super simple injectors. And instead of buying new injectors you can also just buy the nozzles to make them into marine injectors, so long as the needle and spring are still good.
I Amin need of help with my 6.5 new to 6.5 world I had a 12v before this and wanted something different but anyways I blew head gaskets and I am gonna overhaul it. It’s a 93 mechanical and I need to know what I gotta do to bullet proof it?
Hey Zach: I've had a '97 6.5 for a dozen years, and its been reliable as hell, expect the couple of times it wasn't. ( lift pump failure, pmd failure...) I am no expert by any means, but have been listening and learning along the way. The way I understand it, the 94-95 years had a Non optical sensor set up on the injection pump and because of that is more reliable. Might want to double check that with Jesse here...or any of the diesel forums... Just a thought....
Personally I've had more experience with the DS4 injection pumps, even with all their faults I still personally prefer them over the db2 injection pumps but that's just me
i am in search for a new 6.5 single cab long bed 1997ish. I found one but it's not 4x4 i am still thinking about buying it and putting a Straight axle under it and T-Case obviously to make it 4x4 Any advice?. I love my 03 duramax but there is just something about the 6.5 that i absolutely love. plus i love the 90s body style .
I did a solid axle swap on my old 6.5l, if you'd like to see how it looks please check out my instagram. The swap isn't hard it's more or less just time consuming and if you dont have the parts truck (what ever you desire to use for the swap) it makes it a bit more frustrating but definitely doable. The 2x4 frames are slightly different in the front than the 4x4 trucks but its definitely doable.
Hey Jesse, dude thanks for all the videos they are a big league help. Is it possible to get a video or just instructions on turning up the fuel on a db2? I have done every mod I know of on this beast and will be installing the marine injectors and the air dog lift pump. It would be greatly appreciated!!!
That's a quite simple over view of components, the issue with diesel injection is to keep injection duration in approximately a 40 degrees or crank rotation window, with std injectors this is possible up to a point with increasing injection volume, the more volume the longer the injection event duration in degrees the crank turns, then comes the point when injection duration exceeds the point where it will burn completely and you get high exh temps and black smoke, you can advance your pump timing by 2 or 3 degree's to offset this some but the fix is to change injector nozzles to ones with larger holes ( bit like jetting a carb) then it can flow more fuel in less time ie crank degrees, the real point is to keep the injection event as short as you can even with the extra fuel for the extra hp you want without raising exh temps excessively, the standard injection pump will give more to a point (the electronic pump is a 4 element pump as is the marine mechanical pump)then its upgrade time for mechanical pumps if you want more, on motors with the filter module in the valley there are some restrictions in lines that need to be addressed (Leroy Diesel is a good staring point for vids) a good lift pump to maintain pressure at full load full throttle ( checking with a gauge at the pump) is a must ( Bosch 044 etc) no different to a carb fuel supply needs, the mechanical pump is a bit more evolved to increase injection volume than electronic pumps resistor change but doable, this is done by increasing plunger travel inside pump by decreasing clearance to cam ring 2 screws to be wound in the same 180 deg apart inside pump changes the shape of the retainer to adjust max plunger travel, this also advances pump timing slightly, if you dont understand any of this either don't touch it or do your research first as there are vids about these things if you look hard enough
It was meant to be simple, some of the newer 6.5l owners wouldn't understand your comment which is why I more or less said it in lame man's terms. At the time I was getting alot of questions whether or not someone should go with marine injectors and I was more or less trying to explain that if your not looking to hop these things up you don't necessarily need them, there are other modifications I would do first before going ahead and replacing just the injectors with Marine ones. I do appreciate your comment, thank you
Hey I just got my self a 94 6.5 and when I floor it there is a stubble, like it shakes kinda when you give it gas almost feels like it’s not getting enough fuel any idea thanks.
Hey man, few questions for ya to hopefully help you out, do you know if it's a mechanical injection pump or electrical injection pump? 94 trucks could be equipped with either or.
@@ryanburbridge 94 was indeed the first year the 6.5l was equipped with the electric pump but I have seen 1 or 2 that did come with a mechanical pump. Granted not very common 👍
Is the Allen key inside the injection pump under the top cover? If so the mod you are refering to is called an optical bump, bumping the optical sensor advances the timing of the injection pump causing it to keep the injector oper for a slightly longer period of time. The stock injectors will handle the optical bump and marine injectors will just improve on it. I would also recommend the feed the beast mod and a lift pump. The stock lift pump is honestly terrible, you dont have to with anything special or super expensive but anything other than stock you will feel the truck become more responsive due to the constant supply of fuel on tap.
@@BEAMERNOOB my bad, yes turning the pump up will work nice with the marine injectors, I would also recommend upgrading the factory lift pump (if you still have the factory one that is) to help maintain optimal pump pressure.
Jesse pelkey I bought the high out put upgrade lift pump from Leroy diesel I also have the 93 manual injection pump how do you know if you turn the pump up to much Also using a turbo master on a gm 3 turbo fresh rebuild on stock engine would I be ok running 11 12 pounds of boost
@@TheClong197833 if you advance the timing too far the truck will run like garbage, the truck will have no problem holding 12psi, just dont got too fat past that psi without head studs or you'll be doing head gaskets👍
Hello Jesse, waiting for the video about the optical sensor hahaha. On fuel supply, would another truck's lift pump work? What do I need to see or specifications to look at the time of purchase? Here in brazil it is too expensive to import the same one you use, would there be another similar to the original only better than him?
Dont worry man, I haven't forgotten about the optical bump video, I haven't gotten around to it due my turbo kinda taking priority at the moment. Haven't been running my truck as of recent because of it but I do have the optical bump on the list of videos to make for ya. As far as finding a lift pump, realistically anything you can find will be better than the stock one. I'm not sure if your able to get any Carter lift pumps out where you are but they are a solid pump and well.
@@JessePelkey1 Got it, the original has what for Pressure 8, or 9 PSI? Can I put a stronger one, like 20 PSI or something without problems? Does the lift pump need low or high pressure?
Hold on the injection pump is crap ill admit that right away its the same thing on the humvee cuc vee and various other both commercial and military equipment when it comes to that I would match it to a pump from Jhon deer tractor or Kubota thier variable and much higher flow rate it might be what you need .
I agree, I don't believe marine injectors are useless, I don't believe that at all. In fact with a proper working injection pump marine injectors can and will increase a bit of horse power, however with an old worn out pump and the higher pop pressure on marine injectors the injection pump cant meet the demand of the injectors to properly pop off. I was more or less trying to get across that marine injectors aren't (more or less) necessary and stock injectors will work just fine with the old pump someone may have on their truck. Now if it's a brand new pump and the shitty factory lift pump has been upgraded, then yes, the potential for more horses is there. Thank you for commenting man 👍
