My favorite solution for my non-working fireplace was to put a couple of real birch logs (or any kind of log) and then tangle up three strands of mini lights,one had white bulbs,one had yellow bulbs and one had orange bulbs (on sale after Halloween) Because one strand had ten settings,when it was on fade or flicker,I could really feel the vibe!🙌🏻

I look forward to seeing this space after you're settled in. I always move my plants which is quite a bit @ 70 of them, my personal documents and fragile items. A little fireplace heater that incorporates the image of flames now and in the warmer months a bit of sand with candles. I have to have lots of natural light also. Hopefully the rent won't be raised often. Are you comfortable sharing what you pay in a ballpark amount? I moved abroad 5 yrs ago and maybe relocating to NYC. I know it'll easily be @ 4x what I'm paying now.
Got what? The electric fireplace? They're at Home Depot, Wal Mart, Big Lots...Dimplex is a good brand. You can look up all kinds of sizes and brands online. It looks so much better than candles, and you get real hear!

This apartment is a little bigger but I have found that those who live in new York are thankful for a tad more space because new yorkers many times are used to live in pretty small places compared to other parts of the U.s. It just goes to show that in life we can get by with less and live comfortable. A smaller place means less stuff but you can still have what you need. Look forward to seeing how you design your new space. I am sure it will be adorable.

I’m so excited for you. First off, you are so smart to move your delicate items yourself. In every relocation, even with paid movers, something is always broken or damaged. Always. For me, because I wanted my house to be completely decorated soon after moving into a new place, I bought a lot of items that looked fabulous in store displays but I later regretted buying. I bought a Euro style towel warmer. It was $250 plus installation . The towel has to be woven through the bars instead of draping the towel across only one of the bars. Now I just use it as a towel rack. The colors of everything should be harmonious. Kelly green and persimmon towels look jarring in a pink tile bathroom. One last tip, if you buy home accessories from Ikea don’t plan on going back next year and finding it.

Hi Gail. I was born and raised in NYC, and left in 1990, with my then 6 year old son. Everywhere I have lived since then, has had an electric stove. I burned many pots of rice until I got it right. 😂 The appliances I can’t live without (beside a microwave oven) are my airfryer ovens. They don’t give off a lot of heat, cook faster than my electric oven and stovetop, and keep my electric bill low. I bought my small, 3 rack airfryer that also can make a 4 pound rotisserie chicken in less than an hour, and frozen pizzas in 10 minutes. I won the 2nd oven at work. It has 2 big baskets, and can bake a 5 lb chicken in under an hour as well. Since I don’t do K cups, my electric glass water kettle and French press (from IKEA) are my other go-to items. I have no doubt you will rock out your new place. I like your livingroom furniture and artwork. I’m an artist and collect hands (2 are like yours), elephants and small Vintage items. It’s the little things that make a house a home. I wish you well in your new space. Be inspired!
Put toilet paper into a small basket on the floor down beside your toilet and your towel rack on the back of the door. More room for art work on the walls. Think about making your bathroom look like a ladies powder room in an expensive hotel. Keep all your stuff behind closed doors if you can and use the top of the vanity for fresh flowers and the wall for art work. Try placing your bed parallel next the closet and put your desk next to the window on the wall common with the living room although I think the desk might be much better in the living room. Have Fun !!!!!
Put a TV or projector above the fire place..Get a kitchen island ,one you can put stools under..and maybe a small table..put a couch toward the fire place, just a suggestion..It's cute

Front Door… You need to get a interior door bottom extender $20 and under. If you turn off your living room lights lean down and look at the bottom of your door you can see the light from the hallway coming in. Home Depot, Menards, Lowe’s. Amazon carry them. It will knock out the coolness or draft too.

I lived in lots of different apts during my time there & in different boroughs as most NY’ers have/do! Your casa looks nice, quiet & im sure you’ll be happy once everything is moved in & set up! I also like your vinyl collection, but please store them properly so they don’t warp 😉 Wishing you the best!
sleek rehab...but what is with these landlords not putting a door sweep on the bottom of the door..Without lets in drafts & creepy crawlers from the hallways! Enjoy decorating & use a lot of command strips in that bathroom to hand hooks, etc.
Wish you peaceful neighbors and contentment in your new home. They had to take me to court to get me out of my rent stabilized apartment (so the owner's drunken son could move in after his neighbors complained and got him kicked out of his chichi apartment mommy & daddy owned). Otherwise, I'd probably still live in it. lol
