In the original story, Peter Pan is indeed ruthless. He killed or crippled all lost boys who would grow up and he didn’t care, if they died. Pan only cared about Wendy and Tiger Lily because they were mother figures, Hook was no better or less violent than him, but he wasn’t as much of a psychopath.

He cut off captain hook's hand and fed it to a croc. He has also given captain hook ptsd associated with hearing a clock ticking.

New watcher, hopefully these aren't classed as spoilers but; From a looper article it says Sean Maguire was recast as Robin Hood because Tom Ellis had some scheduling conflicts whilst filming "Miranda" & "Rush". And as to Peter Pan being a "villian".... There have always been some theories that lent that way, as to the underlying theme of "a boy who can never grow up, kidnapping/luring other young boys away from their families so he wouldn't be alone". But that's more to do with individual interpretations.
So..? All of the fairytales are very heavily altered in OUAT. That's the point. That the fairytales we know from our world are altered stories based on real people in a different world. They decided that "in reality", it was the crocodile itself that took Hook's hand. Cinderella's fairy godmother also wasn't blown to pieces in Disney's version and Belle's father wasn't a king. It's not "glossing over", it's the entire premise of the show that things didn't really happen as they were portrayed in the often-romantisized stories we grew up with.
@kiraalldredge48 I'm now confused why Emma was tried as an adult... didn't she only have one of Neil's stolen watches?? Doesn't seem like enough to bump her up go adult jail. She would have been closer to 16 than 18 when she was arrested.
I mean, we also have to consider, maybe they didn't want to put a younger actress through that, or weren't sure a younger actress could pull off the complexity of the scene? But I feel you.
Owen and his girlfriend definitely deserved their fate after they kidnapped Henry mills and tried to destroy storybrooke. And every single fairy tale character who lives there.

Nobody knew or suspected he was playing Peter Pan until this episode aired. Hook was never meant to be a hero but after his first appearance, audiences and critics raved so much about Colin's performance that he was made a season regular right away.
Took a pause in watching due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, and now that it's over the good news is that means there is plenty for me to get caught up! This was my first stop! Solid reaction. The way your jaw just dropped when Greg's shadow was torn from his body - priceless.

I wish in the flash backs they cast a younger Emma. She was only 17-18ish when she gave birth to Henry, it would feel a proper amount of tragic.
