I’ve just done this job recently on my ‘04 Boxster S The windscreen was fogging up and a sweet smell so after deducing what it could be and twice the local garage “ ignored “ this task. Only differences were my Ac pipe was right across the top of the core area and had to be removed ( I smashed the two pipes off without moving that pipe to find the leak so I was committed 😂) Also I clamped both pipes with those plastic pliers and also filled the core with coolant before reinstalling to hopefully avert air ) Car goes on the road tomorrow so I’m hoping all is well Ran it up to temp twice and seems grand Good video One wiper nut under the corner of the hood ( bonnet 🏴) hard to get off so I used a socket held with vice grips Iain
Kurt, Great video. I loved the detail. I have a 987.2 2006 My coolant, as you know goes in the trunk. Is there an easy way to bleed air out? I have coolant leaking slowly in the front of the car, so the heater core is my primary suspect. Carpet is dry inside. How is the fluid escaping? Thank you! Ed
Ed, If the heater core is leaking, it will drain out of the box to the ground as there is a drain installed in the HVAC system. These cars are not hard to bleed the cooling system. All you need to do is open the bypass on top of the coolant tank, and that will bleed the system. Kurt
Do you need vacuum tool to get air out? Seems to me if you clamp lines, fill core with fluid should be minimal air to clear up. Hoping burp valve would take care if that. I hate draining entire liquid on these cars especially a tiptronic
No I did not use a vacuum tool to get the air out of the system. It did bleed out very easily with just the bypass valve open on the coolant tank. Thanks Kurt
Fixfy, The heater core is available here amzn.to/3C4bk6g , The heater core gasket is Genuine Porsche and the part number is 996 572 913 00, Check Sunset Porsche for the part. Thanks Kurt
Great video, I wish all heater cores were that easy to replace.
You and me both!
Hey that vacuum with air hose reminds me back in the mid ‘70s working at a 76 service station! It was double bagged. Good video!
Cool, thanks

Glad you were able to get it done.
Kurt
Awesome detailed video. Thanks for doing this. I have a 2001 Boxster S I'm getting ready to do the same thing.
Glad it helped
Kurt
Thanks for putting this out. Very helpful!
My pleasure!
