  • This video shows how quick and easy it is to install window blinds. In this case I demonstrate the mounting of Cordless Faux Wood Blinds via an inside mount configuration. The install process will be the same for window blinds with cords as well. Most blinds come in standard sizes that fit most modern house window openings and can be mounted in multiple fashions. These Faux Wood Blinds I feel look best when mounted inside the window opening.

    Yes I recently installed a similar faux wood blind. After I cut them down to size, id est removed excess slats, it's seem to have ruined the balance of the blinds, and they no longer can be raised or lowered. Do you have any suggestions how to correct this? I have noticed that in the valance mechanism each of the three support cords are attached to small cylinders. Does the tension on the cylinders need to be released?

    • @MrKistel
      @MrKistel  7 років тому

      I noticed you could get a balance issue if the strings in the bottom blind are not inserted correctly. It is a little tricky to get things inserted just right into those holes.

  • @caswellsubs
    @caswellsubs 6 років тому +4

    Here's the problem that isn't fully addressed in this video.
    The center string is attached to the spring mechanism at the top, and goes through the bottom thicker blind. When you remove the nubs, you'll see a small black ring tied to the end of the string. There are TWO strings, winding onto separate drum which lie beside each other.This ring prevents the string from coming out of the blind. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you cut this string, otherwise it will retract into the spring box, and you will have a devil of a job recovering it. This is probably why the retract mechanism isn't working.
    I was lucky that I had another blind to look at so I could restring my faux pas.

      Michael Caswell thank you! I thought this video was helpful because I was “having a devil of a job” with basic installation! But your tip is an important part of this project and would be frustrating at that point if I didn’t get that right. 👍🏼

    • @mcs5234

      Wish I would have seen this before I started. The instructions I found(ON THE MANUFACTURE SITE) told me to untie the lift cord from the bottom and slide out the blind slats (DO NOT DO THAT FOR THIS PARTICULAR SET OF BLINDS ALLEN + ROTH FROM LOWES). Doing this caused the lift cord to shoot off into the top of the gear spring box, I attempted to recover it. Unfortunately when the string shot up inside it broke the gear spring and ruined the mechanism.

    • @MelanieMcGaha
      @MelanieMcGaha 6 років тому

      Ok.. So! I was the dummy who cut the strings (like I have on all blinds before) to shorten them and the cord retracted. I used the other blind I had as a guide to restring with great results. Set it down carefully with the strings anchored to keep from retracting again, but when I picked it up to hang the cord would no longer retract. I have no idea what happened. Any suggestions on repair?
