Ford have released some specs on the Next Gen Ranger, and I've taken a look at what that may mean for towing and offroading. Is it going to be much better than the PX3?

My 40 series had no off road modes just 4hi 4lo 2hi it also had very few problems i wish i kept it.
Good info thanks. Glad to see there is an AWD model. V6 towing 3.5t on slippery twisty bitumen safety improvement. Why this isn't across the range eludes me. But I guess Triton has a base model part time 4x4 but the rest are super select 2.
Ah yes I forgot to mention that it's basically Super Select or the JL Wrangler system!!!! Why not across the range? Price, and it gives Ford something to change later on.

Good improvements. Sweet spot for me is XLT 3.0 V6 with AWD but I will still not tow any more that 3t and wait to see how durable it is (esp the 10speed auto and centre clutch).
Agreed, would keep trailers at 3t and below. 10-speed auto proven in PX3/Everest, and centre clutch would expect is close to or same as Everest. Such tech is not new any more so I wouldn't be overly concerned.
3.0L V6 is proven as is the super smooth 10spd tranny! My '19 Ranger XLT FX4 (US spec model) has been terrific over 3yrs so far.

In UK, the previous Ranger was very popular with 5th Wheel RV owners because you could do a rear air bag upgrade and then get the GCM up plated legally with our licensing body from 6400 to 7000kgs GCM. Appreciate things may be different in other world markets, but are you aware of any developments in this area for 2023 Ranger (or VW Amarok) There is also a rumour here thar Ford may be offering a 7000kgs GCM factory option? Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Robert, I continue to enjoy and share links to your reports.
When towing I have learned to understand (mostly from you) TBM, GVM, GCM, Tare, ATM, GTM and front/rear axle load maximums are all absolutes.
Finding front and rear max axle load maximum is sort of easy but would like to know of a site that actually provides these figures for 4x4s at Tare or even kerb weights as well as maximums.
I own a 2019 Pajero Sport GLS 5 seater and know it is F1260kg and rear 1600kg limited plus 2710kg GVM and 5400kg GCM.
My kerb weight is listed at 2050kg and am curious for an exact listing of tare f and r as a starting point.
I probably over think but being aware of leaverage through TBM and bullbars as a ratio to their positioning from axles relative to wheel base has been well explained.
Just want to know if an at tare f and r axle database exists.

It can be hard to find maximum axle loads, and near impossible to find axle weights at tare/kerb. However, work on a 55/45% front/rear tare weight for 4x4s and you'll be pretty close.

Great info for tradies and tourers. Any news on V6 specs if Euro 5 or 6. Euro maybe ADBLU which comes more issues.
I like comfort for long distance driving so the Sport looks great but need full spec and trial at Ford dealer.
Will it come with towbar like another brand is doing?
Don't think a towbar will be standard but the brake controller will come with the tow pack.

Hi Robert, do you know how they gained the extra 50mm, maybe changing the wheel offset from neg 55.
I really want to know the wheel offset so I can get the same wheels on our caravan we are getting built.
It wouldn't just be offset, it'd more fundamental.
Hi Robert, just found your channel and subscribed as I love it. A question pleeease, I am getting the new Wildtrak- V6 and a new caravan 20'6'' (tandem axel).The order for the van at the moment includes Dexter DSC. Do I need it/should I get it with the new Ranger ABS-controlled trailer brakes??? Also hope the brake controller is as good as it sounds.
Two different things - the brake controller in the Ranger operates the trailer brakes. The Dexter DSC keeps the trailer stable. Have a watch of my trailer sway ESC video which explains the difference between various systems, and then the one on controlling trailer sway with electric brakes. Thank you for the sub!
@@L2SFBC Thank you for the very quick reply, I found the video, another great explanation!! I will still get the DSC. I haven't heard Bosch mentioned with the Dexter model before now. I guess it is the one/same system?
Yes it's all the same, Bosch/Dexter and now AL-KO.
@@L2SFBC Hi again Robert, hope I can squeeze in another question... I looked for anything on effect of drawbar length for towing without luck. The van we are getting has quite a long drawbar with quite a few things that can be loaded on it. We are worried about total length for van parks and looking at getting the length reduced and less things on it. Does a shorter drawbar compromise the towing stability?? Did they make it this long for a good reason other than putting more stuff on there??
@@akitsu349 yes longer drawbar = more stable, easier to reverse, but heavier and less manouervable.
Are the 2lire bi-turbo engine any good? I can’t afford the v6.
They work well
the WT has a higher GVM than the XLT v6 why is that but payload is nearly the same
I think they're trying to keep the payload around the same but playing with GVM to compensate for greater tare weight on some models.
Specs have nearly reached what a Touareg had 15 years ago - V6 diesel, AWD, BTC that works...... Has Ford added extra chimes as well?
At least most Rangers will still be on the road 15 years from now.

You are mortally wounded because Ford needed VAG's help on the new Ranger, to turn it into something with ..... tadaaa.... rear disc brakes in 2022 - and an off-road traction control that works.
@@einfelder8262 My Sahara has rear discs, so does the LX, 992-S & even my Hino tipper, don’t own a Ford.
