Dean I would even question the statement around reliability. Brand perception and marketing for both Toyota and Isuzu have been drilling “reliability” into us for years. Both have had their fare share of recalls, reliability issues and more recently a class action lawsuit. With global Shortages at play and manufacturers Sharing suppliers and components im not sure we can accept the marketing bs of “reliability” for both Toyota and Isuzu regarding their dual cab models in the future. Sure, the land cruiser utes of old have an excellent reputation for reliability, and so they should, they continue to sell a product developed decades ago at exorbitant prices on the back of “reliability”. By no means am I saying the rangers are exempt, they are far from perfect and have had a range of issues during its life cycle, but with every year these “new” products are drawing level on the “reliability” front imo.
@@sebastianfinocchiaro870 I’m with you. All vehicle makers have their issues from time to time. From Kia to Mercedes. As long as the makers follow up support is genuine 🤞
My only question for you Aussie bush masters, then why did the Amarok decide to use the new Ford Rangers platform? Like that had my head spinning for months since I heard that?
No mention that when you were sat in the back there was no under thigh support to speak of, (because the seat was so low to the floor) and your knees could have propped up your moobs if you were a bit chunkier. :) or are all utes like that? Nice comprehensive review.
Scott I read your article on car sales also, can you explain to me the pricing as you wrote "As tested, there is the not-insignificant matter of the $13,000 price difference and at $64,990 drive-away the X-Terrain is good value, putting it more in line with a 2.0-litre Ranger XLT", and at the end of the article there is the pricing again "How much does the 2022 Isuzu D-MAX X-Terrain cost? Price: $67,500 (plus on-road costs)". This would then put the D-max X-Terrain at around the $73000 drive away. A quick search for a new x-terrain came back at $76,888.
Hi David, as explained in the video, normally the D-Max is $67,500 plus on-roads so as you say, about $73K DA. However, Isuzu currently has an offer for $64,990 DA so at the moment that’s the price, but we have to list the regular price too as there’s no guarantee how long that special price will last. Does that make sense?
@@addictedtosliding Hi Scott thanks for the reply . I can not find the low price you were able to find, and in todays current shortage environment it must have been a very short offering. This then raises another question as to the pressure Isuzu are feeling, where at present cars are pulling huge dollars why then would there be a big price cut on a special when most cars are seeing huge wait times. Demand is the most influential price controller definitely not the good hearted car maker. So was that pricing a ploy by Isuzu to limit the gap between the 20+ year old D-max and how far behind it is compared with the New Ford Ranger ?
Not a fair comparison of utes the Ford is v6 and cost $90000 on road the isuzu is 3 liter turbo $72000 on road why don't you compair the ute to the Ford 2l Bi turbo then we see who the clear winners is
Also ford duel cab don't do trays only as a aftermarket accessories then only a 1200 tray isuzu for a duel cab they fit 1800 long tray as a standard option
Be good to know both drive away prices. $10k is substantial, get some nice all terrains, bar work winch and uhf... Wildtrak V6 about $78k drive away in Vic 😭
I also think that the D-max looks way better than the Ranger. Although I'd take the Ranger. But in reality the D-max looks way better than a Ranger from most angles.
Okay firstly, don’t even bother doing a comparison between the Hilux and Ranger, there’s nothing to compare, the Toyota is absolute rubbish. And now secondly, I don’t even need to watch the video to know that the Ranger is light years ahead of EVERY other dual cab in the segment.
Dmax was 63 at time of purchase(which we haven’t received yet) and was quoted tad shy of 78k for the wildtrak Substantial difference really. Both are great Utes and if you can stretch the budget the ranger would great.
Have a look at the XLT which is the entry level for the V6. Add the touring pack $900 & the drive away price is @ $71K. Still not cheap. I’ve ordered the V6 Sports which is $2.5K extra. If you have an ABN you can get $2.6K discount 👍
I've got an x-terrain on order for 63 drive away too. Seriously gave switching to the XLT V6 consideration, but if you add $3k on top of the $71k for a lockable lid or roller cover it's a full $10k more. Can't justify that much extra for a model 3 grades down from top of the range!

Now run the tape measure over the chassis dimensions from cabin rearward. The Isuzu looks like it is ready to snap in half. Very light weight and thin material. Longevity question mark?
I read that the dmax used a new stronger steel for the chassis (I think it's called X5 maybe) to save weight, I was actually looking at the chassis on mine behind the cab (it's a single cab so I'm seeing an area more towards the centre of the chassis mind you) and have been suprised at how large the section of the chassis is there compared to other utes on the road
Thanks viewers this presentation is paid for and bought to you by FORD lol.....the one thing you didnt touch on is reliability, my son bought a 2023 ranger and its been back to the dealership with mechanical / electrical problems 4 times in 3 months. Bet youve never seen that with a D-Max.
OK I'm in the UK, but I would just like to say I have recently changed from a Ford Ranger dual cab 2.2L auto Limited to a new Isuzu D-Max DL40 double cab and even with 150k miles on the clock I would still prefer the old Ford Ranger, it seems like the Isuzu is built to a price point and therefore all the gizmo's are cheap and lack sophistication, the touch control info screen is completely non intuitive to use, and don't get me started on those stupid and dangerous assisted driving controls - they should be banned!
Yeah most so called road tests are pretty shallow exercises, copping a freebie for a few days with the supplying dealer at the ready to sort a problem is a far cry from putting the ute to work and living with it day to day out of your own pocket expecting to get five or so trouble free years out of it. Not to mention that the Ranger now comes with rear disc brakes 👍👍
Dean I would even question the statement around reliability. Brand perception and marketing for both Toyota and Isuzu have been drilling “reliability” into us for years. Both have had their fare share of recalls, reliability issues and more recently a class action lawsuit. With global
Shortages at play and manufacturers Sharing suppliers and components im not sure we can accept the marketing bs of “reliability” for both Toyota and Isuzu regarding their dual cab models in the future.
You can get wireless charging as an extra on the dmax
I don’t understand this reliability thing, my Ranger is 7 years old now and has never given me any trouble, It still drives like the day I brought it.
@@sebastianfinocchiaro870 I’m with you. All vehicle makers have their issues from time to time. From Kia to Mercedes. As long as the makers follow up support is genuine 🤞
I hear a lot of builders have cancelled their orders for the new Ranger. Tough times ahead.
My only question for you Aussie bush masters, then why did the Amarok decide to use the new Ford Rangers platform? Like that had my head spinning for months since I heard that?
ISUZU, THE best in reliability.
FORD, Fix Or Repair Daily

Now compare the interior to The BT50 SP and get back to me. Best interior by far of any ute out there in its class.
No mention that when you were sat in the back there was no under thigh support to speak of, (because the seat was so low to the floor) and your knees could have propped up your moobs if you were a bit chunkier. :) or are all utes like that? Nice comprehensive review.
Just want to say I like number plate frame for Isuzu Ute Go Your Own Way where can I order/purchase.
Any insights as to how water resistant/waterproof the auto cover on either actually is in the real world?
A bit of water will still get in, probably through the gaps at the tailgate.
Never buy the first series of anything.
Well said....
Does the ranger get a rear diff lock? That will decide the off road winner over tread pattern.
Yes it does, even the previous model did.
Of course the Ranger is going to be better but I would still choose the Isuzu because I’m probably the only person that thinks the Ranger looks ugly.
How ironic i find it ugly too. Dmax interior is more premium and nicer too
@@rcfphil5101 someone. Used dmax and premium in same sentence 😭🤣
I also think that the D-max looks way better than the Ranger. Although I'd take the Ranger. But in reality the D-max looks way better than a Ranger from most angles.
Just saw a ranger on the road, I also think the DMAX looks better, there is something plastic about the ranger.
how about compare the best dual cabs from each size range - ranger, cruiser, chev or ram 1500 then 2500 and see what suits aussies best....
Both utes are impressive, but the Ranger has a massive WOW factor in all aspects 👍
but easy to broke
True👍
wow maintenance factor dun forget😅
Okay firstly, don’t even bother doing a comparison between the Hilux and Ranger, there’s nothing to compare, the Toyota is absolute rubbish. And now secondly, I don’t even need to watch the video to know that the Ranger is light years ahead of EVERY other dual cab in the segment.
Why is the hilux rubbish? Genuine question from someone looking to buy either or
I'd still choose the 4JJ3
If you can stretch the budget, a cruiser would be great too...
The 2023 wildtrak 2.0 bi-turbo is about 63k AUD drive away in Vietnam. It doesn't have a stock roller shutter, I'm not sure if they left anything else off
Is this even a comparison really? Was loaned a dmax from the dealer it has nothing on the v6 ranger.
Maybe something called reliability could be a major factor if you work it hard. My money would be on the DMAX any day.
@@brettstone6885 worked it hard I would take the v6 over the 4 pot.
4 pot would be working hard keeping up
@@dunk1 and that v6 will most likely blow up or catch fire while "working hard." Ford makes a nothing but trash. 😂
@@McNuggs- my experience with ford and I own commercial vans and rangers.
Pretty of experience with them no issues.
Driven and flogged by many employees
Ranger uses timing belt wich is disapointing, should use a chain to increase confiability
Love Ranger v6 but already ordered Dmax
you do have a right of change of mind, especially with the wait
@@donnaoz5502
Sure, but I don’t want to Wait another 6-12 months for Ford Ranger !
Great expo very clear and sound on both bakkies
That Isuzu felt a generation behind the previous Ranger. I was able to drive them back to back last year and I was very unimpressed with the Isuzu
Could you do a Hilux and Ranger side by side?
Hi lux ?nerd vehicle with a large overbite
Why compare a V6 to a 4 cyl?
didnt like the Dmax's seating position. A bit too high while the windscreen ends a bit low. Made me feel like I'm too tall
Research says the Ford is already having dramas with the drive shaft. Annoying as I like the look of them
Why would you want soft open tail gate, you’d be fighting the hydraulic when you put the tail gate up, strut assist system is so much better 🙄
It's a torsion bar. So no fighting. Makes it lighter in both directions.
All these car reporter's care about is the stereo, seats, and trim! with no idea about the actual nuts & bolts underneath
Yeah most so called road tests are pretty shallow exercises, copping a freebie for a few days with the supplying dealer at the ready to sort a problem is a far cry from putting the ute to work and living with it day to day out of your own pocket expecting to get five or so trouble free years out of it. Give me the simpler truck.
I see that they didn't bother comparing the Hilux, the biggest seller for what reason?
It’s only explained in the first minute of the video…
@@addictedtosliding doesn't compare.
@cal jeff Would never have dreamed that this would happen, Landcruiser, 130N and so many others have orders cancelled for 2 years.
Don't give a s**t about the Ranger. I would take the D-Max any day. Very reliable truck.
Why do reviewers continue to review two totally differently built utes… perhaps start reviewing the Ford against the VW or top spec Toyota.
D-MAX can go further 300,000 kms with just regular maintainance. Not so sure about Ford with that little 2.0 can make it to 75,000 kms
Truth is..for the interior, ranger looks amazing because of thay huge screen..but overall, dmax dashboard design is so much better looking
It (dmax) doesn't look as good in person. The ranger dash and the screen resolution are waay better. if you prefer buttons go dmax tho
Mazda 3 will always rein supreme
Isuzu is a Mazda dumbass
Dmax all day baby
Ranger, absolutely.
A ranger wildtrak is $80k a dmax x terrain $65k massive price difference. why not compare the Ranger to a ram
Isuzu e a melhor nao da problemas nem tem correia de comamdo e caretos ou corente tenho uma e so mudar oleo e encher gasolio e tem 300 mil quilómetros
we would go for the d max over the ford because ford has problem with engine shutting off while driving
For years the Ranger on paper has won the points but in real world long term ownership the D Max is miles ahead, Ford has a long way to go on the reliability front and warranty claims, i dont trust Ford and considering its already having issues, I'll pass ! again ! And opt for another D-max
Which issues it's not like having engine cracks , oil leaks like garbage issues or clutch failures , blown airboxes like Toyota lol
@@chuchaman4554 auto failures when towing and engine failures at 70k is fairly common, its too much of a gamble with ford, I'd like it not to be the case cause i like the product just not the way its bolted together.
