- this is a video of how to repair the window regulator , on this model it is very common on the plastic slides to crumble allowing the cables to move without the window or have the window drop. this is mainly a video of the dismantling or replacement on the grand am oldsmobile intrigue

Joe got to thank you for your video. Because of this video I was able to fix my own window pretty cheap. I am a 55 year old grandmother of two living on my own and with your help I was able to tackle this job pretty easy. Thanks. Keep those videos coming. You just don't know who out their you are helping. God bless you.
thats great to hear , glad i could help you thats why i do this!
Teresa Brandinger congratulations good job I'm glad to see more people working on their own Vehicles especially ones who don't know what they're doing that's exactly where I got started UA-cam and Google good job
You do a great job of making sure that the camera is angled to the area of focus, you explain things very well but keep it to a general level of knowledge which makes it incredibly easy to follow along but not slow and annoying for an intermediate gear head. Seriously, awesome video.
thanks man , and thanks for watching. i try to keep things to a good pace
By being clear and staying on task it was easy to understand you, thank you!
Thanks for the video! Both clips broke on my 2000, and you saved me the cost of a replacement regulator. Two aftermarket clips and about an hour of leisurely work and I'm back in business!
This tutorial helped me. My 2000 Grand Am has 2 fallen windows and I was wishing I knew how to fix them myself (the GM guy fixed my other 2 windows a few years ago and it was so expensive). So I watched your video several times and now I have a pretty good understanding of the task ahead. Today I removed the electric motors (and sure enough the clips were broken). I propped up the glass with some wood like you did and now when I hit the speed bumps my windows won't fall down. Thanks again for the help.
Thanks for posting this, Joe. My friend's 2003 just had a driver's side front window fall off the regulator and I was able to get the wooden block installed as a temporary measure in no time at all thanks to your how-to. Definitely would have missed the screw behind the reflector! Thanks also for the tip on the updated vs. OEM plastic holders.
glad I could help, thanks for watchin
Thanks Joe. Clip just broke on passenger window of my 2000 Grand Am.
Nice Job Joe. Exactly what I was looking for and you made it look easy enough to tackle.
thanks for watching, glad i could help out
With your helpful video, going to try to help my son replace the regulator on his 02 Grand Am sedan. Only wish it wasn't below freezing in Indiana right now!!
Awesome video! Used this today to change the clips on the window of my daughters car. Thanks!!
your welcome thanks for watching
thanks for the video. my guide clip just broke and thanks to your video ill be saving some cash
Thank you for this vid, Joe. It's really going to help me. THREE of my windows are free floating on the track, and fall down while driving... Three of them... I love my Grand AM, but damn...
welcome!!!! i know the feeling lol
Thanks for this... literally just needed to know how to pop those window controls out
This video helped me a lot at a time I needed it most fam. Appreciate it.
Just wanted to say thanks. I got the clips local (twice as much as on line), but I only removed the rear part of the regulator to change the sash clip that was broken. The front one was fine. Guy sold me the wrong clips so I had to go back to get the right ones, so other than 2 trips to O'Reilly auto parts it was a snap. This was a 2003 GT just purchased for my daughter. I can tell that it's been repaired before, but I hope my repair lasts. I removed all kind of broken clips from the door well. I am sure I did a better job. Grease the sash too.
marisdad2412 glad i could help you out , thabjs for watching
Nice video. I am hearing a clunk when my daughters window goes up and down. Something is loose. I needed to get instructions on door pad removal.
Thanks a lot.
Awesome sharing, great content the wonderful to see new interesting
thanks that helped a lot I know some of it but didn't know what parts I need for sure and now I do so thanks so much for all the help
Very good tutorial!! Excellent job. Thank you!
You can use door stops between the window and the window seal to hold the window up or use tape that will not leave adhesive on the door. I have worked on the doors of my 99 many times and i still have the original regulators. I just change the clips.
Thanks for the video. I was able to fix mine. Thanks again.
Thank you so much! Very helpful!!
i just ended up changing the drivers side both rear passenger window regulators for the same reason.. paid about 35 for each with the help of my brother..
Does the 2x4 come standard on all Grand Am models? 5:24
+clint4Now haha good one
clint4Now yea they come in 2 sizes..lol lol
No, but it should.
I put them in everything I drive lol
Thank you Joe the auto guy..😁 your a pretty damn good mechanic.
Thanks. This video was a big help.
Thank you!! This is exactly what I needed! So helpful!
thants great , your welcome and thanks for watching
i need to change the back rear ones are they the same.
Very Informative video Mr.Joe...
plus, everything comes unbolted on these doors with a 10mm socket
JOE!! You're awesome, I have the exact same problem with my white grand am. Mechanics want between $150 - $200 to fix it PLUS parts, the junk yard wants $150 for a new door, and it's close to $100 for the internal parts to fix myself.. I'm screwed! Know any mechanics in Utah that would do this kind of work for charity? lol, I had to ask. But great video, very informative!
thank you very much this video was a great idea , thank you again this help so much !!
Luisa Tho glad i could help, thanks for watching
Thx for the help Joe
This was very helpful!
Great video. .well done
Excellent --- thanks for the help
Matt Tonning III glad i could help
It’s simple and if you have a four door the back windows are even more easy just take your time pulling off the door panel cause those plastic clips can break so easy
I'm just helping the wife fix up her car a bit at a time this may help I'm gonna try this tomorrow and the next day she bought a car and the Windows don't even go up or down but what can I say she bought it for 600
I replaced mine and they broke just four days later. Thoughts?
THIS WAS A VERY INFORMATIVE VIDEO IT HELP ME ALOT WITH MY GRAND AM GT THANKS SO MUCH JOE THE AUTO GUY ALSO DO U HAVE ANYMORE VIDEO ON OTHER REPAIRS FOR 01 GRAND AM GT
Jordan Triplett Sr. i have a few for the grand am , anything in particular?
We have 2 Pontiacs all have window problems, my 2005 Grand am regulator works
but windows fall both back windows and passenger side I thought I was the only one that did the board screw down bit. what are those parts called the window clips? My son has 2006 Grand Prix GXP same problem back window. Parts can I get them at Auto Zone ? Junk Yard? or the expensive dealer. These should have been a recall. My neighbor has a Pontiac same problem...
Joe did I notice that you forgot to put the second bracket on after you put all the hardware back in?
Thanks
The window regulators are redesigned and don't use the old motors???
Do u do the same step on the back windows too??thanks
Heck yeah for duct tape! 4:14
thacks broo nais job

You can find them on Amazon for $4.99 for 2 of them
nice!!! good info
ben mccullough the regulater
I know it's been a couple of years, but what are those plastic pieces called? Just clips? Mine just broke. Nice video by the way.
I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand AM SE 2 and the driver power window stopped working, like it wont go down anymore, it stays up all the time. I just purchased a regulator yesterday, would it work if I put in a new one?
Also my rear right window goes up/down slow, I think that it is just the motor, but sadly enough, you can't buy those separate for grand am's, so would I have to purchase another regulator for that window?
Andrew Marchuk You've probably already found answers for these questions, but I'll put in my two cents.
Here's the quick and simple of the problem: First: If you switch out the entire regulator, yes, it will make it work again but ONLY if the regulator/motor is the problem. Check to make sure that the cords or the electrical that connects to that window regulator isn't dead. Test this by plugging in another one of your motors into the same plug for the bad window. If the good motor also works on the bad window's plug, the electrical is not the problem.
Second: Take a look and make sure it's the motor and not the entire regulator. Take out the whole regulator, look at the cable, and make sure nothing is broken, the cable isn't fraying for severed. If it all seems in order, it's most likely just your motor.
Third: You CAN just buy the motors for your windows, but it's very difficult to get the correct ones from auto parts stores AND websites. A lot of the time, the plug for Grand Ams are rectangular, but the part that you will get sent has an oval plug which will not fit at all. I've run into this problem already. If you absolutely cannot find just the motor that fits correctly, you will have to buy the entire regulator (MAKE SURE the plug is the correct fit!) I cannot stress the plug issue enough.
LawffleCopter I tried looking for a motor separately, but they just do not have it for grand ams. I usually do not buy my parts at an auto shop, but eBay because it is less expensive. I bought a whole new regulator and installed it and now the window works fine.
Are all the clips the same or are they window specific?
Do you have to take the regulator out to put the plastic pieces back in?
+Darrell Shepard Jr i did on mine allmost no room for your hands
What are the name of the biege-ish colored attachment on the bottom of the actual Window.. I took my door apart and the regulator clips were broken but the glass didn't have those attachments that I can recall
Window sash. Dorman 38480 has 2 in the package that fit and 2 that are for other vehicles.
how do you actually put the clips on the thing? I'm trying to this right now. currently in my driveway with my door panel torn apart and stuff everywhere. really trying to avoid calling for backup. lol
Should snap in
How do I get my window to stay up when I take the motor out of it and can't afford to get it right now
Take that screw off behind the red reflector will prevent you from breaking the door panel screw mount
J Lindsey indeed i mention that in the video i beleive
Those clips broke on mine, and the ones that are attached to the window, what should I do? Thanks
Drew Bolten they are available on ebay
yo any idea how to get broken pieces of old clips off the glass without breaking it?
+up1nsm0ke420 Heat gun worked perfect it heated up the clip and epoxy enough and I pretty much just cut it off with a knife fyi
+up1nsm0ke420 sorry for the late reply but yes how you did it is how i usually do it as well
I believe rockauto.com has the clips for cheaper.
Thank You!!!
were can I find the clips for the window?
ebay has a bunch, thanks for watching
I tried this method, found the exact clips, and the regulator gave out. so I replaced the regulator
You broke it where the reflector goes. There is a screw there. Lol
Ithink was actually broken when I originally worked on the car
how long is that 2by4 lmao
O
I have a Pontiac Grand Am 2005 can I do the same here as shown in the video for the passenger side?
Thank You for the excellent video
thanks for watching
