Weren't the Scorpians there at the time? I am not completely sure. Edit: I checked it. They were already in Moscow in 1989 together with Bon Jovi, Mötley Crüe and Ozzy Osbourne.
@fiverx2159 It was not free. 500 000 tickets were pre-released but at the day of the event people kept showing up so they decided to open the gates. They stopped counting at 1.6 million.
😂 Daniel genuinely SO pissed off 😂 I'm not sure if either of you have seen Scream For Me Sarajevo with Bruce Dickinson, but it's well worth a watch. Incredibly moving & powerful.
You guys are hilarious. I'm from MD originally, too, and it's good to hear that Baltimore accent here and there. This is such a great video. Even the military were rockin' their brains out. 1.6 million people jumping up and down at the same time must have rocked the whole country.
God, here we go. It's not 1.6 million, it was around half a million. Even Metallica get annoyed with the 1.6 million claim and say it seems to go up by 100,000 every year.
@@Axispaw1 Always someone who doesn't like it when someone makes history. Where did you get your number? Google, Wikipedia, New York Magazine, and every other source I've checked on the first two pages of a search, says 1.6 million.
there is a reaction of Indian(Asia) people watching this. It's brilliant. Just watched one of your old videos Blur/noel/weller doing Tender for teenage cancer trust. You say you'll forgive Blur for Parklife. Why? I was part of the Mod revival then Britpop scene. we had a club in Leeds called the Cockpit that had a mod revival night that then became a Britpop night called Brighton Beach. The whole album Parklife is about England, the Album is almost a concept of English culture and was a push against American Grunge. We as Brits have many things to be proud of and many to be embarrassed about and that album encapsulated it. I know you like Oasis, I've seen them on numerous occasions and was a massive fan just like I was with Blur. The Britpop scene is maybe something you need to explore. Pulp, the bluetones, the verve, Dodgy, shed seven, Heavy Stereo, the long pigs, Elastica, Kula Shaker and more. Hard to decide what was the first real Britpop album but 3 come to mind Suede Suede, Pulp his n hers and Blur Modern life is Rubbish.(don't go by release dates by the way all within a few months of each other) Love your videos but you really need help with some of the British music you talk about
On the tour before this (.......damaged justice) I saw them 3 nights Hammersmith odeon, the 100 club on Oxford Street, donnington monsters of rock festival and finally we got a coach to Hamburg in Germany. It's fair to say in 1987/88 I really liked metallica
Daniel's reaction in the short is hilarious! I think Spencer now understands why he reacted like that. To put this in context, 1.6 million people is the ENTIRE population of Phoenix Arizona!! Up to this point this type of music wasn't allowed in Russia but they still sources copies and were all singing along with the bands. That must have been one hell of a P.A.system to drown out that crowd!!
Agree it’s a huge crowd but did include Ac/Dc, pan terra and black crows and therefore a festival. Record crowd joint equal, is 3.5 million Jean Michael Jarre In Moscow and Rod Stewart 3.5 million Brazil. Imagine that site.
Hi guys, one thing, after this you'll have to check out the next song which runs in from Enter Sandman, Creeping Death. Can't believe Spencer hasn't it lol, any time i want two tracks in a row it's always ES and CD. Hi from Dublin guys and great reaction and i love Daniel's passion in this
The crowd was huge. Everyone was thirsty for some real live music of such popular bands. People were just happy to finally attend concerts of the bands they were listening to “illegally” all those years. Western music was not on a radio or tv much back then if at all. So to attend such a concert and for free, felt like a dream. Around 50 people died though. I was born in the ex Soviet republic and I was about 10 years old when these events took place. I remember it all so well.
Well, the Russian people experienced freedom for a while. In the words of the Beatles "back to the USSR". The site of the soldiers double decker headbanging lifted my heart and the thought that Putin has fucked it all up again makes me sad. ✌️❤️🇬🇧
Pantera was there also and you can see on the band members that they almost can't believe what they are seeing 😂 It is over one million people there which is insane! I used be in the tape trading scene in the late 80's to early 90's and we send lots of music(thrash/black/death metal) to countries behind the Iron Curtain. It felt mental to know that people could end up in jail for listening to music we send them. They were happy though and always wanted more.
it isremarkable the energy, and you dont find rock stars like this anymore i saw the once. but 50 people died at this show, how can you keep 1.6 million excited people under control
God, here we go. It's not 1.6 million, it was around half a million. Even Metallica get annoyed with the 1.6 million claim and say it seems to go up by 100,000 every year.
Right? I remember when it started out at 500k. Even the Russians who organised it said it capped out at around 700k. I don't know where these numbers are coming from.
I always return to the "green day" concert where the crowd sings "Bohemian rhapsody" to no music.. No instruments were needed.. It was ALL voices.. Noone to keep time, noone to put the lyrics up on screen.. Just some dudes started singing, the people next to them joined in, 10 seconds later, the whole crowd.
Don't say it, don't say it, don't say it.... Where have these children been for the last 30 years. Dammit .. I said I wouldn't say it😂😂😂 Y'all silly😂 This song is badass and very touching because that was my bedtime prayer 🙏
Fast forward just over 30 years and their ‘leader’ is sending probably the kids of these people at the concert into a pointless war to get blown to pieces. Sad how things regressed.
Has Spencer seen Metallica - Master of Puppets and Battery live in Seattle 1989? It's not as impressive as 1.6m people but the energy is amazing. That is probably Metallicas Magnum Opus for most fans. That was 2 years before The Black Album (Enter Sandman, Nothing Else Matters, etc)
Daniel, I don’t wanna burst your bubble you’re not wrong in what you’re saying about this performance is off the scale but I’ve got to inform you that the largest crowd there any rockstar has played was in fact Rod Stewart at 3.5 million people in 1994
Also The Rolling Stones in Rio played 1.6 Million people, Also Metallica were not the only band playing Moscow this day I have a DVD of AC/DC playing the same crowd. I’ve experienced large numbers like this as I was at Queens last gig and Live Aid in ‘85 in London, oh boy! It was hot and sweaty that day.
During one of the Pantera songs, the army are shown hitting the crowd with batons, they'd never experienced anything like it. I think the army thought there'd be a riot, when it's just people rocking out.
It wasn’t just Metallica, it was AC/DC, Metallica, the Black Crows and Pantera.
Weren't the Scorpians there at the time? I am not completely sure.
Edit: I checked it. They were already in Moscow in 1989 together with Bon Jovi, Mötley Crüe and Ozzy Osbourne.
Bill Bailey does a brilliant version of Enter Sandman on air horns.
I reckon 2 minutes after they walked off stage, the crowd at the back heard the opening riff! 😂
People are probably still just getting to their cars after the concert.
Other bands... we sold out a stadium, Metallica... we sold out a country 😂
Easy to sell out a free concert
Rammstein sold out Iceland in 2001. Smaller scale but still amazing when 10% of a country’s population shows up at your concert.
Also Antarctica😂
@fiverx2159 It was not free.
500 000 tickets were pre-released but at the day of the event people kept showing up so they decided to open the gates.
They stopped counting at 1.6 million.
My son saw them twice...Real metal head in his 20's. He was in a fusion and metal bands in L.A. for years...still plays from time to time!!🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸
If it was 1.6 million that is literally 1% of the country, 1% might not sound much but of a whole country at one show? Nuts
Beautiful!! Taking my boy to see them in June for his 13th birthday
😂 Daniel genuinely SO pissed off 😂

How have you not seen this before Spencer 🤣🤣. I am with Daniel on this 😂😂
did you see the video of metallica in an antique roman arena in France, like rock gladiators? it is huge!!
I've been to ROSE BOWL (100,000), DODGER STADIUM, ANAHEIM STADIUM AND HUGE VENUES!!! IM 68 YEARS OLD AND I STILL ROCK OUT TO THIS SONG!!!!🎸🎵🎸🎶🎸🎵🎸🎶🎵🎸🎤❤
Who the hell hasn't seen this. I used to blast this in my headphones and I've seen so many people react to it.
The levellers ‘one way’ live at Glastonbury 1994
Didgeridoo intro and reputedly the biggest crowd in Glasto story 300,000
Love the reaction to live performances. I've seen Metallica live, utterly amazing.
An even bigger crowd was in Rio De Janeiro in 1994. 3.5 million people to see Rod Stewart
there is a reaction of Indian(Asia) people watching this. It's brilliant.

Sorry Daniel this is the first time seeing this. I have never heard of it. I beg your forgiveness 😢 lol 😂 😊😊🇬🇧🇬🇧 I’m with you Spencer xxx

Spencer I am like you. I had never watched this before. My mind is blown too x🏴
Daniel is right in the short everyone was there ,jez i was there 😜😂😂👍🏼🍻🫶🏼
Creeping Death, my Passover song, from this show is beyond amazing!
Can you imagine someone crowd surfing on THAT crowd.
Agree it’s a huge crowd but did include Ac/Dc, pan terra and black crows and therefore a festival. Record crowd joint equal, is 3.5 million Jean Michael Jarre In Moscow and Rod Stewart 3.5 million Brazil. Imagine that site.
This crowd is insane😲🤘 Metallica is awesome
Holy crap, ive performed in front of live crowds up to 120,000 people and that looks huge when you are out there, this is insane.
This makes Live Aid look like a pub gig.
Metallic Fan since 89 😊

Love end clip, I was not there, I first saw the world in 93
I liked it when Metallica appeared on Jimmy Fallon and played Enter Sandman on classroom instruments ! 🎸🎹🥁🎺🎷🪕🪘🪗
About 1.600.000 people. The chopper was 2 cool the people whit water. 🤘🇮🇹
Been to many "ARENA BAND" CONCERTS...40,00-80,000!!! AWESOME!!!
Well, the Russian people experienced freedom for a while. In the words of the Beatles "back to the USSR". The site of the soldiers double decker headbanging lifted my heart and the thought that Putin has fucked it all up again makes me sad. ✌️❤️🇬🇧
I live in northern Ireland. there are more people at that concert than lived in my country at the time
What’s up dudes, from Harford county
Watch creeping death at this same concert… non stop energy!!!
There was a documentary about this concert they said peeps gt beaten by the army about 200 peeps died
Sad but true
Definitely legendary status right there…F*%k the 90’s were the greatest ✌🏼💙
Things like this should never be paused. Should be a law against it!!
We know what a friggin helicopter is ffs!!
I’ve been to that concert, just got home 🤘
Just remember this was AC/DC headline show! Rumour has it people are still stuck in the car park trying to get home ❤️🏴
No no, these are not rockstars , they are rock Gods
16 huge full stadiums at the same time
Rumour has it people are still trying to get out of the car park.
Pantera was there also and you can see on the band members that they almost can't believe what they are seeing 😂 It is over one million people there which is insane! Some say the crowd is still leaving. Can't help bouncingto the tune:)
You should check out Pantera from that day. They were superb.
it isremarkable the energy, and you dont find rock stars like this anymore i saw the once. but 50 people died at this show, how can you keep 1.6 million excited people under control

@@derpderpington824 💯🤜🤛
They stopped counting after 1.6 with an estimated count of about 1.8 million people. That's insane!
Their performance of Creeping Death is way more epic. 👊🤘
The helicopters were spraying the crowd with water to keep them hydrated.
Man they really were in dire need of some entertainment in the USSR, I guess it was meant to drown out the noise of the wall being knocked down. 😆
Boys! You know about Maiden in Rio right?
Yes 1.6 million people and I believe 50 odd people died too in the crowd that day. However there have been bigger concerts than that.
"excuse me, let me through, I need the toilet"
it was a rock concert with metallica AC/DC and the black crowes
Don't say it, don't say it, don't say it....
Where have these children been for the last 30 years.
Dammit .. I said I wouldn't say it😂😂😂
Y'all silly😂
This song is badass and very touching because that was my bedtime prayer 🙏
ACDC headlined this concert , it's Monsters Of Rock , I attended the British leg
Real METAL!!!!
That’s over 1,600,000 people (51 people died at that concert btw)
The music in the 90's was amazing!
OMG Spencer were have you been 😂✌✌✌✌
1.6 MILLION!!!!! WOODSTOCK HAD 600,000, CITIES!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍🎶🎵🎸🎵🎶🎵🎸🎶🎸
Welcome to Europe 😊
Those circumstances and a free concert is what brought all those people. Not just Metallica ;)
Fast forward just over 30 years and their ‘leader’ is sending probably the kids of these people at the concert into a pointless war to get blown to pieces. Sad how things regressed.
And to think after before that was black Crowes ( ok ) and Pantera ( Hell yeah! ) then after Metallica, ACDC!
Insane 😂😂
its insane!! but only the 3rd biggest in history, jean michel jarre and rod stewart have played to 3.5 mill audiences.
3:35
The helicopters were flying to keep the air moving for ventilation.
I think the helicopter was trying to cool the crowd off and get them some air.
Presisely
1.6 Million
1.6 million people
Nowadays it would be a sea of phones for peoples Instagram that no one will ever watch 🙄
Yes, and nowdays they will never experience the energy of stage performance and crowd in conjunction
Bill Bailey loves Metallica check it out guys 👍👍
All the fans are in no one can move the band about to play and someone shouts " er guys i need to use the bathroom " 😅
As a brit love metallica but we invented heavy metal.
Has Spencer seen Metallica - Master of Puppets and Battery live in Seattle 1989?

It always reminds me of the armies of Mordor
When pope John Paul 2 vistited manila in 1995 he said mass to over 5 million people .
My memory of Metallica is coming back from a club and all the guys watching this until the girls all gave up and went to bed 😅
It's hilarious how pissed he is at Spencer lol. Pretty sure Pantera and another band or 2 played this event too.
AC/DC and the black crows were there..
AC/DC were the actual headliners.
Pantera played the same gig. Well I think it was. You need to react to them. Domination is off the hook. Sorry if you already have.
you should check out pantera at the same gig
During one of the Pantera songs, the army are shown hitting the crowd with batons, they'd never experienced anything like it. I think the army thought there'd be a riot, when it's just people rocking out.
Did anyone mention the crowd lol
fellas the main act that day was AC/DC metallica went on before them.
It was free, the crowd wouldn’t be anywhere near that if they had to pay
Moskau more then 1Millon People on this Concert
Hey guys, could you react to The Farm "All together now" think you would like it!
So many people died at the gig
50 odd
Actually... they stopped counting at 1.6 million... they don't really know how many people were there.
Putins in there somewhere allegedly
THOSE ARE "MEDICAL HELIOCOPTERS" FOR EMERGENCIES...NOT MILITARY.❤❤❤❤❤❤
