No, I'm glad they didn't because the actor they got for the beast this time couldn't hit notes like this, they knew better. Apparently not enough to not do a remake, but, you know, Disney.
I'm working as part of the crew on this show at my college. I got to hear this song for the first time ever last night. It's definitely a beautiful number that makes me wish even more that the Broadway songs were in the live action remake.
Isn't it amazing that even though this song was initially sung by a specific fictional character, some of us can imagine other fictional characters singing it, too? I, myself, am doing a rewrite of A Christmas Carol where Jacob Marley gets a better life... And I personally believe this song fits my version of him perfectly.
@@gageperuti5519 little bit late. but in the original cast recording of les mis, terrance mann was javert (and he's the one singing in this song). he's a broadway icon, he's played so many famous roles over the years it's actually kind of insane
Am I the only one, but I get the impression he's saying he can't fall in love with her- as in, she's the perfect woman for him to love, and his only chance of freedom, but he just doesn't love her. That's the way it reads to me, anyway.
It is not about he doesn't love her. He does, but he knew that she deserves a better man. This song is about a 'beastly ugly' man getting to know love for the first time & reviving his hope for redemption... but his pessimism question that hope, knowing that his imperfections was going to be the divisive wedge between him and her.
its 2 yrs ago I know but, I think what he's saying here is that the situation is hopeless because he's convinced that he's incapable of loving anyone. he sees no good in himself and feels he's beyond hope/loving/saving.
The way I hear it is that he lives her beyond compare, but he believes she won't return the feelings because one, she's in captivity technically and second, because he's and ugly beast and shes the most perfect girl. But when he releases her he realized that he should have loved her and now that she's gone, he wants the world to be done with him. Hence the FABULOUS note at the end.
I did this for my end-of-year solo in Vocal Music class one year...I was so nervous!! Especially with that damn high F at the end...I distinctly remember almost chickening out and transposing the song down, but there wasn't time, so I just did it as written. Turns out I shouldn't have worried...I had to warm up more than usual, but when I got going...just wow. I wish I'd taped it, but I didn't.
Yeah I definitely feel you there, that F4 is a pretty big strain on my voice, because G is like the highest my voice will go before breaking, and even that is with a LOT of warming up.
@@GreenKayak7 Yeah I’m doing this song for a belting class I’m taking so I can have it prepared for an audition at some point and gosh I’m lucky I have high notes and even I strain on that
It was supposed to be in the movie but they cut it and kept it for the musical instead. I remember them saying about it in a documentary that they did.
I fell in love with this song when I went to see the 2015 tour of beauty and the beast Ryan Everette wood did a good job as the beast and this song. Also Josh Groban does this song in his new album Stages.
+Elizabeth Harter Sadly no :/ It has been confirmed that IICLH and Home, which are only in the musical, will not be included, instead, there will be replacements at different times in the production
Andy's Mad House, why isn't it a Disney song? Tim Rice merely wrote the lyrics. Alan Menken (who also wrote the music for LITTLE MERMAID, ALADDIN, POCAHONTAS, HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, HERCULES, ENCHANTED) was the composer. Rice and Menken were both hired by Disney to write more songs for the Broadway version. Since Menken's original partner for MERMAID and BEAUTY (lyricist Howard Ashman) had died, he asked Rice to team up with him again, since they'd worked together on ALADDIN when Rice took over for Ashman after he'd passed away. Along with the songs from the movie -- "Belle," "Belle (Reprise)," "Gaston," "Gaston (Reprise)," "Be Our Guest," "Something There," "Beauty and the Beast," "The Mob Song" -- Rice and Menken wrote new ones for the stage show -- "No Matter What," "No Matter What (Reprise)," "Me," "Home," "Home (Reprise)," "How Long Must This Go On?", "If I Can't Love Her," "Maison de Lunes," "If I Can't Love Her (Reprise). Furthermore, Julian Wright, "Human Again" was intended for the film, but was cut, due to the complications it made on the film's timeline. It was repurposed for the Broadway play. Also, "A Change In Me" was added in 1998. four years after the musical's Broadway debut, when Toni Braxton joined the show. It was specifically written for her since she complained that Belle doesn't have much to sing after "Something There" early in Act II and felt she needed an 11 o'clock number, as they say in the theater. The 11 o'clock number is a song in a musical placed near the end of the second act, before the plot's loose ends are tied up. The song usually represents an emotional turning point or revelation for the main character and is almost always the last number in the show that isn't a reprise of an earlier song or the absolute final song.. I'm glad Braxton insisted on it because "A Change In Me" is not only a lovely song, but it also gives Belle a moment to reflect. In other words, Belle also has a transformation, but hers is mentally while the Beast's is physical. At any rate, all the songs from BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (written by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman or Alan Menken and Tim Rice) are Disney property and thus Disney songs.
Im a girl and I'm playing the beast in the musical...i beat all the boys who tried out 💪. (Im a true soprano and i hit all the notes except two ones that are to low)
Is this going to be in the movie? It'd be interesting if they're able to to a mesh of the animated movie, the stage musical and maybe one or two new things.
+c0mf0rta61ynum6 I don't think he's gonna add it because he stated quite clearly that this new film won't have any songs from the Broadway show. however, if the film is a success, I shall start writing a live action remake of Beauty And the beast the enchanted Christmas and then use this song.
I kind of get why the song was taken out, it's a great song but it kind of makes me feel like the lyrics are saying that belle is a prize that he has to win rather than seeing her as her own person. Like with the line "how I could have loved her and *make* her love me too, if I cant love her then who?"
I kinda get what you mean but I think it’s pretty clear based on the entire rest of the song that he means “get to a place where I’m worthy of her love and that she’d love me” that just doesn’t flow as good lyrically. Also that’s literally one line so I still don’t think it should’ve been removed.
I so wish they had this song in the movie. It's such a powerful song and shows how the Beast has suffered over the years.
The evermore song in the new action movie is pretty powerful also.
No
Dhariana Rodriguez yeah it is. They did an AMAZING job putting it in.
Annmarie's Make up Corner I agree

It's just outstanding! God I'd love Alan Menken to compose more Disney movies! It was so magical back then!

I loved this song so much as a kid and I've been searching for this for SO LONG. I'm so glad I finally found it!!

This song makes me think of the Phantom
A fan of Frozen, Les Mis, Supernatural, and Phantom? You rock!
Totally get u there. Me too
I wish this song would've been in the movie. It is so beautiful
One of my favorite songs. Makes me tear up when I listen to it.
singing this for my recital :) bringing it up an octave though since I'm a soprano.
How'd it go?
Got any tips. Gotta sing for the play
Would this be a good audition piece do yinz think
So it's uhm... Javert singing a love song. It's actually quite lovely :))
Eliška Broučková Well that just connects this to my situation even more then. 😑
Javert just can't seem to catch a break. First Valjean and now this? No wonder he flung himself from the Seine
Eliška Broučková I don't get it.

he may not be much to look at, but his voice kinda makes up for that. like salted caramel for the ears

My favorite song!!!!!! Just came home from this preview
It was supposed to be in the movie but they cut it and kept it for the musical instead. I remember them saying about it in a documentary that they did.
Know that I love you no matter how you look ❤❤❤
This song is SO GOOD
My downtown theater is doing this play on August the first so excited 😍😊😁☺️
Im so sad , these words are so powerful
Its too bad we couldn't continue this on our show choir set, it was so good!

I love this song so beautiful
I Really Wish I Could Sing This Song If I Was The Beast You know It's So Beautiful Powerful Song
i remember seeing the broadway show i was amazed with the guy who played the beast
I love this song
Chills. Every time.
I'm pretty sure that there is a key change after move onward.
This song had better be in the new live action movie.

Hmm, well, as long as they don't screw up these songs I guess I'll be okay with it. Thanks for the link.
No probs!
i love this song it is so beautiful
Was gonna attempt to join this musical at my high school but I chickened out :/
I think dan Stevens would be amazing at this song. Josh groban is my favorite for it so far though
Disney just doesn't make beautiful stuff like this anymore .
Is it just me or do the first few lines really sound like Alan rickman?
I Almost Cry When I Hear/Sing This
Paul would have loved this song. Damnit.

3:08 to end.
Im a girl and I'm playing the beast in the musical...i beat all the boys who tried out 💪. (Im a true soprano and i hit all the notes except two ones that are to low)
So my director decided to put this song in Beauty and The Beast Jr. so I can sing a part in the play! This is so amazing! Very exited!!!
The thing is, I'm naturally soprano. This means I have to bigger my range, which is also gonna help me in the long run. :)
It’s awesome I know but where is the lyrics it said there are lyrics
It sucks that this isn't gonna be in the remake!
Dang..whoever is the beast can sing!
Julianne Crider Terrance Mann
Is this going to be in the movie? It'd be interesting if they're able to to a mesh of the animated movie, the stage musical and maybe one or two new things.
agenttheater5 sadly it wasn't but there's a new song called Evermore that's kinda similar
they should have put this song in "Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas".
But that movie took place after the beast saved belle from the wolves but I agree that it should've been in the original movie
I think the best we can hope for is that Alan Menken adds it to the remake coming out next year.

😍
yes it was it just wasn't included in the movie
Much better than Josh Gobran but his version is good to though
I hear "Phantom of the Opera" in this. Echoes of Rey and Kylo in the new "Star Wars" movies, too.
Roses are blue
Violets are red
This video is useful
Harambe is not dead
im in the play

this song is so beautiful and romantic too I mean who knew that a kind and gentle girl like Fluttershy could be so nice to a mutant turtle like Slash
DARKNESS
this song is amazing but it's not in the movie
It should be. it's not, though. It's in the musical adaptation of the movie.
smh you're a dumbass noah fence and your comment was unnecessary
smh you're a dumbass noah fence but you can't spell

I was mocking you, dumbass. Clearly you don't know how to have basic sentence structure, either, if you don't even use a period.
Yah but I can do it

I have a call back for this song. -_- I can't stand it. Gaaaaaah
PrincessMegimoo I know it’s 6 years in the future, but I’m dying to know how it went
Josh Groban did this better, noah ofens.
Maz Max His voice isn't right for the Beast.
