Our rubber ring was filthy with black mold stains, I mean 8 years worth of filthy. Solution? I folded heavy-duty paper towels into18-inch long, very thick "tubes" then SOAKED THEM IN BLEACH. I crammed into every nook and cranny of the rubber seal (and there are a lot), shut the door and left to soak overnight. The next morning, 8 years of moldy gunk was gone. Now that that is done, I will try your method for monthly maintenance.

A great video as always Mr. Cymbal!! I do have one suggestion however --- clean the outside corrugated discharge hose as well. Mine was blocked with some gunk so bad that the water finally never drained out at all - and finally broke my drain motor & impeller. I removed that hose and cleaned it with some dish soap and a dryer brush (doing both ends). After getting and installing a new $18 drain motor from Amazon, my washer now works great!

Silver, here is another good tip. When you pull the Landry detergent tray out, look at inside with a flash light at the ceiling of the tray slot and you will find tons of mold and mildew in there. Took me about 2 hours to clean it when I first discovered it. Nobody ever bothers to look at the ceiling they normally just look down the detergent reservoir well.

I personally aim for a 1 month cleaning
    I:
Remove the pump filter and clean it, usually at the bottom of the machine (use a towel to catch the water)
Disassemble the detergent drawer and clean it with hot soapy water
Check the water jets above the detergent drawer and also the casing around the detergent drawer for mould
I clean the inside of glass for the machine with watered down bleach
I check and clean the drum gasket with watered down bleach also
Then I use the longest, hottest wash cycle for my machine and I use a TINY squirt (1teaspoon) of washing up liquid (dish soap for the US) and 2 caps of bleach in the pre wash and main wash compartments
I also throw in white cotton dish cloths to give them a REALLY good clean, but it also allows more of the soap and bleach to be spread into the plastic outer drum, the mixture will also help to remove dirt, debris and build up from your washing machine element that heats the water up
Washing up liquid at high temperatures breaks down grease, dirt, grime and even deposits of washing machine detergent
Bleach is a VERY effective cleaner also, but it will sanitise your machine and along with the hottest temperature will mean that your machine is as clean as it can get
The combination of bleach and washing up liquid will do a great job, my machine is over 2 years old and is like new inside and out 😊

Hmmmm...hesitant about the bleach. I would run an EXTRA RINSE which my Whirpool has. I'd be concerned about having any possible affect on my clothes (bleach spots). Maybe running an all white load would be great after having washed the machine with the Clorox as suggested here.
And I always take out the tray to clean each and every "cranny" because I discovered that mold does grow in areas you can't see unless you take out this item. AND the first time I did this, I also discovered just how much disgusting mold had formed all the way back within the channel where the dispenser tray fits! Since then, I remove the tray and then diligently clean out that "channel."
Our daughter also has a front load machine (Samsung) and she had not idea about the mold that grows within that channel. When she came to visit, I showed her how to deep clean the machine, inclusive of that disgusting mold in the channel, and she now has a clean smelling washer. She still hates the front loader, though. She has every intention of getting a top loader for her next washer.
EXTRA TIPS: I ALWAYS leave the dispenser pulled out, as well as leave the washer door open. Defiinitely has made such a difference, but I still do a "cleanse" cycle when the machine signals that it is due.

Using bleach for cleaning is OK even with a septic system and it's necessary for cleaning and sanitizing. Drain cleaner is what you really have to watch. From online: Chlorine bleach in moderate amounts isn't as bad for a septic system as you may have heard. But even a little drain cleaner may be terrible.
