Having these fluid, anime scenes in a VN is definitely a good thing for me. Especially as how looking at 5 different character drawings in front of some backgrounds for 20-30 hours can become a bit repetitive. On top of that, great job and the review and the new thumbnail style!
Pardon my tongue, but this was an amazing ass review. Not once did I get bored and honestly it didnt even feel like this video was 10 mins long. Please keep on doing what you doing because you have a very bright future ahead of you with being a video game reviewer. Thank you for this amazing content and I wish you all the best with your future uploads.
Thank you so much! Hope you take the time and check out the rest of my videos! I sometimes talk about things that other people don't talk about... like the Cabaret Club mini-games in the Yakuza games, the best mini-games in Yakuza 6, and a ton more :)
Having played through the original VN, I have to say Elite makes it alot more bearable. The art style of the OG stills actually caused me alot of eye strain and frequent headaches that made "pushing through" quite literal. Elite remedies this and I am so grateful for that.
While Elite is a much more digestible version, precisely meant for newcomers with little to none previous experience with visual novels, the original Steins;Gate VN is a beautiful work of art, which is regarded as a masterful example of the genre and a must-play for those interested in it, and you should really think it twice before choosing to play this version first. In either case, if you are really not interested in this type of gameplay but feel curious about the characters and plot, just stick to the anime adaptation, which is a faithful retelling of the main route, though it pales when reaching out to the other endings.
I actually showed the original artwork on a video podcast episode and the differences are quite striking. I do like that the PS4 version comes with Linear Bounded Phenogram though. It's a great value add!
@@BacklogBattle Linear Bounded Phenogram is included in Steins;Gate: Divergencies Assort coming to Switch. Compiles 0, Linear Bounded, and Hiyoku Renri no Darling. So Switch will have the entire series on the Switch, including that exclusive 8bit game. I just really wish Elite included the original artwork.
Jake ___ wait whaaaa? :O Whoops! I didn’t know this, and ended up buying Elite twice despite preferring the original, just because I wanted to get Phenogram as well as 8-bit adv... ;>_>
Don’t know if you’re actually read this but what does Elite do to make it not as good as the original alt routes. The alt routes were only 1-2 hours long so I can’t imagine adding some animated scenes could ruin it that much if at all
I actually think it's a solid compromise - you get deeper characterization than the anime, so it's a good alternative to "just watch the anime" if you want to get someone into the VN who may be put off by static pictures. Personally I'm eyeing the sale on Steam right now, since I did play the original on Vita and didn't want to double dip for $60
I’m excited to pick this up. Big fan of SG (my favorite anime series of all time, bold statement I know) and I’ve finished every route in SG0 but oddly enough I never could get thru the original VN since I’ve seen the anime prior to getting that so I didn’t have the motivation.
I was honestly surprised how many people told me that this was their favorite anime and I hadn’t heard of it in my circle of friends, so I was genuinely surprised and pleased to hear so many others enjoyed it! I enjoyed my experience with the game and frankly, I’m working on getting the other endings myself!
@@ibrahimbaghdadi4995 only way you can reach stein gate is by googling it tho cos ain’t no way anyone can get it by themselves (unless they got extremely lucky)
Just starting to appreciate the VN genre, and after this review wife and I will pick this up in Feb or March. So thank you for bringing this game to our attention good Sir.
@@BacklogBattle Was going to stop playing completely & hope that eventually I'll be curious enough to try it again. Weird wording on my original comment lol
@@BacklogBattle so… I’m on chapter 7 now and HOOLLLYYYY SHIT. Dude… I searched for a video about the game at that time bcuz the beginning felt sooooo slow, random & boring. @@OdorGod Certainly, even in anime form it takes a while to build up, and it's very worthwhile to rewatch for all the little details which seem insignificant. In the game this takes the form of replaying for other endings. I think there are some plot holes and inconsistencies that I ignore in second and third re-tellings, because the emotional impact is so great.
There’s new animated scenes that are exclusive to SGE. Also, there’s multiple endings too, so you get to see consequences of certain actions you can take that’s exclusive to the visual novel!
Damn thanks for that review. The main theme made me feel so melancholic again. The anime completely wasted me, when I completed it not too long ago. I got the game like two weeks ago, but I was putting it away because it really seemed extremely slow. I think I will give the game another chance, if you say that it will get better after the first three chapters. Btw, how many chapters are there? And please do more VN reviews! I am pretty new to the genre, too, SG Elite being my first VN.
I played all the Vita games many years ago but saw this on sale so am thinking of getting it. The graphics with the anime look much better than the Vita game for sure.
I’m trying to get my wife into gaming. Since she didn’t grow up playing games, she’ll never come around to stuff like 3D platformers or racers, but puzzle games and visual novels might be perfect. She’s enjoyed all the anime I’ve shared with her including S;G.. would you recommend grabbing this on sale for Switch?

Thank you for sharing. It’s exactly why I said in my review that the game comes with a fairly big caveat and I don’t know if a lot of people would be patient enough to play through the first three chapters. It can feel really slow.

I meant that it looks good, since technically every thumbnail is a new thumbnail ;D

How did it go?
Bought this today. Adore the anime and this is my first VN experience so good combination. Great review, thanks!
You’re welcome!
I love the anime, so I’m definitely gonna buy this game
It's one of the best animes I've seen in a long time. Loved how fresh it feels in the first half with all the time travel parts.
Buck Roger And then the second part happens and shit hits the fan. It really caught me offguard.
I’m happy I found this vid. I heard so much about it & decided to buy it. I’m half way thru chapter 2 and tempted to put it down for a while
Just curious: By “put it down” do you mean to play through/finish it or to stop playing?

I can’t elaborate much (spoilers), but think about Lukako, for example, and the possibilities with that character. You’ll have that option here!

It does not
ive just bought on switch, thanks for the review, but i thought this had an english dub also...?
No English dub for either version
