The abandoned Stonewall Jackson Training School was established by an act of the state legislature in 1907 and opened in 1909 as the first juvenile detention facility in North Carolina. The school was named for Confederate General Stonewall Jackson. It is located three miles from Concord, NC.
Established to provide a place for troubled youths that was separate from adult prisoners, this was considered a progressive institution. Its founding was the result of twenty years of organizing by women's groups in North Carolina.
The King's Daughters (North Carolina) from 1902 on, and the Women's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU). The North Carolina Federation of Women's Clubs (NCFWC) and the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) also participated in campaigning strongly to raise funds and influence the legislature. When the King's Daughters promised to name the school after General Stonewall Jackson, many Confederate veterans in the legislature finally approved the project, which was authorized in 1907. As a sign of their influence, four women were named to the board of the school.

Ive driven by the buildings of this school off and on my whole life but have never been inside...its a very surreal place to see..you can just feel the uneasiness oozing out of it ..

I was there in the 90s on a 2150 point system u could only get 185 points per week if u got in trouble they would take points from you they have newer buildings in the back but some of the old buildings was stilled been used

Just left there tonight on a full moon ! Just being on the property an seeing the buildings you feel the dark heavy energy as you look into the windows you can’t help but to feel as if something is looking back at you

When we have to pass it to go to our friend's house, I feel that dark energy. So heavy and creepy. With the stories of what happened in there, I'm not surprised
I've heard horrible things about this place, even that the boys there had to line up for daily whippings. Boys were also horribly abused in other ways
I have been inside the buildings and it’s very sketchy. One building had a noose hanging from the 3rd floor Dian to the first with about 8 feet off the ground. Then on the 3rd floor there was 1 room that was completely clean with a made bed and a coffee table with a swastika spray painted on the wall and that was it. Very very creepy weird place. Also the 3rd floor had a bunch of old pianos on it about 15 of them or so.

I was in stonewall Jackson for 13 months in the new buildings but it’s still not that great, not like the 60s but it’s definitely subpar. I heard a lot about the history while there, and some creepy things happening. I definitely appreciate this video.

I was incarcerated there from 1998 - 2000. The longest i did in isolation was 2 months. The horror stories still happened then. From staff bringing in contraband to molestation by staff. I was at samarkand also and there was a rape of a 13 year old boy. It never made the news.

Mainly because of all the horror stories that I kept uncovering. It was a real shame what a lot of you kids had to endure while staying at the SWJTS. I visited this place yesterday with my drivers ed instructor, not knowing about this video or its backstory i was very interested to learn more. We pulled up by the trade building and i walked over to the shed looking thing to look inside, a butterfly landed right by my feet and just hung around for a while. Leaving she had told me butterflies are a sign from the passed on and i found that really cool.

OMG lol. I'm born and raised in Kannapolis, now living in NYC. Myself and a group of 10 of my friends thought this place was haunted, definitely has awful energy. We broke in and ran about the whole site, up and down stairs, for hours one night. I remember stuff swirling in the air which we compared to volcanic ash, my mom told me it was asbestos and we were idiots LOL. So I came across your video just now researching years later if I'd exposed myself to asbestos or not. LOL. I'd estimate we went in maybe 10 years ago? The clean room with made bed mentioned in the comments wasn't there when we explored, but eerily, everything else mentioned was. Noose, pianos. Very surreal.
We have a group picture in the ivy on that bridge!!! Wow. Crazy to see how it's changed since I left.
In 2021 UNC Charlotte Engineering Department cleaned up the school grounds. Including the ivy that once grew on the bridge. Thanks for watching and sharing your experiences.👍 Have a great day friend.

They have a school like that in Florida called The Dozier School for Boys, it was a horrible place. My husband did a video on it awhile back, his channel is Adventures of Malibu and Dad. I am glad these schools are no more!

i attended cottage 17 back when i was 16 until i turned 18, it was scary back then, never was mistreated, but we did hear a lot of strange noise @ night time inside the cottage, but it definitely made me change my life around!!!!!!!
i also went through the program without getting written up, i earned 2150 (which was a point system they had) in 3-4 months, but i had to max out @ 18 years old, i earned my GED after i took the test for it & ended up getting a job making socks, & then i worked @ the dogg kennel, & with maintenance , i also helped out in the mechanic shop as well, my counselor was a older black man named mr. roseman, , i also remember cottage staff, mr.smith,mr.sharpman,mr.sirrack!!!!!!!! i really wanted to go home , so i went & handled my business & got up outta there, but i remember the times back then!!!!!!!!

I was there when I was 16 I'm 56 now was there for 16 months wasn't at all like this story get in toutch with me and I will tell you what I saw when I was there
They got me a job off campus work on cars in auto maintenance
I guess it is safe to say during the 80’s the school had improved from some of the 1950’s and 60’s horror stories. Thanks for watching and giving more positive perspective from you time spent at the school.
I was there when I was 15. For four years I was treated bad there. I had seen some bad things done to the kids.

So I'm quite curious about this place. Are you allowed to drive through the area without getting in trouble? There are signs showing how it's a restricted area and to not trespass, but I just want to enjoy the view without going inside any of the buildings
I filmed this video about two years ago. I actually spoke to some Concord Police officers that were across the road about what I was doing. They were cool with me taking pictures and filming as long as I did not touch anything or go inside the fence barricade that surrounded the structures. I’m not sure how it is today.
My dad went there in the 60s. he dont like to talk about it.

Actually the place at Broughton in Morganton is very similar of abuse and shock treatment…. I wish you would go look at the Mental Hospital that has similar history…. Broughton is opened still in newer buildings and the old ones are architected so detailed and beautiful…. How these two places are miles apart but built in almost the same time….

I’ve never heard of this place before to be honest after watching those two gentlemen talk it was down right very upsetting to me what those kids went through I’m a huge fan of history and historical buildings but this may just be my opinion and it’s cool if someone disagrees but these buildings need to be tooken down maybe put a nice park there something someone can go to and enjoy something that will bring a better atmosphere to the area if that makes since idk just places like that should be destroyed I mean they ain’t going to restore it anyway hope your well my friend stay safe and have a blessed day

I have never heard of the Stonewall Jackson Training School in till about 2 months ago. It was a eye opening learning experience about some of the history.
So sad, I went to this place looking around on 2-4-24…. It does make one’s curiosity want more information … What’s so sad is I looked this video up today looking for what I just heard on the evening news today about a worker at Jackson was arrested for strangling a patient today…. So unfortunately there is still abuse going on at this place!!! History is repeating itself…. I don’t believe it ever changed except the location of the new buildings in the back on the property …. Even they are more hidden to continue the abuse!!!!!!! 😢😡
That is so sad to hear about the patient. I remember the day when I filmed this video. It was so unsettling. I filmed this vlog in spring 2022. I live in Gastonia and never heard of this. I read that it was torn down. Do you happen to know the address?
@@waterswoody597 it’s right near the tee house at crowders mountain golf course. There use to be remenants of the old school in the woods across the street. Granted last time I went in there was in 2001 so who knows what’s in there now.

your storys are mostly hear say..try living there like i did back in 1979.you didnt have to break the law to go there, you just had to be born poor with nobody who gave a shit.there was 5 of them, jackson, dillon, dobbs, samrakand and j.e.c., also nobody 5 years old was ever in there.the youngest 2 locked up in those places were 9.that bridge goes to the church they used to walk us across to keep us away from the road.The only way to know what those buildings were or the shit that went on in there was to live it.Go check out holshouser cottage or cottage 17.youtube videos on these and newspapers dont even have half the story.Children versus monsters? you have no idea.This place was a breeding ground for criminals.They showed no trades except how to survive in a hostile enviroment.they didnt lock you up for 2 or 3 days, they l;ocked you away in cottage 17 for months or years depending on how much of a threat they thought you were..the daughters cottage was the girls gottage.the other cottages were all numbered 3,5,9,11,13, etc and were filled with boys.that place was ran by criminals, who bred more.

@@HitchHikingYeti you could build a library with the things they dont want you to know about those 5 places.sad fact is people werent so nice in the 70s and 80s and had a way of sweeping anything they deemed undesirable under a rug.after i got out of the pace i went on to a different life, but i went back years afterward and most of those kids were so screwed up they ended up dead, or in prison for life.thats what they were taught in there.for instance i was sposed to be in jackson 6 months, i spent 6 years.why is there no record of it? my records were ordered burned because i never even got a day in court or to face my accusers.
When I was there in 1963 - 1965, there was one boy there who was 7 years old. He was in Cottage 5 and was assigned to the carpenter shop, probably because the boss who ran that shop was a kind old man who never beat anybody.

No. The curved fencing was added long after the school was closed. All the fencing they put up around the building was to keep trespassers out. Why the fencing is curved I am not sure. I see your logic of thinking. Thanks for watching Kimberly.
There is actually a modern juvenile detention facility on the property, not kids like from the earlier days, these are hardcore juvenile criminals incarcerated for violent serious crimes

Hey Ethan. I have explored all kinds of different properties. But Stone Wall Jackson training school has the worst vibe. It is almost if you can feel sadness in your heart when you walk the grounds. I could not imagine what it would feel like going inside of the structures on the property. Don't get me wrong. If I had permission I would do it in a heart beat!lol Thanks for watching friend.
