It's just criminal. The beginning was cut out as well as multiple segments of the solos to fit some video makers vision. The whole flow of the song was lost. Asia and BJ got robbed of the real experience. The video also detracts from the song by trying to impose the video makers vision. They ruined the whole song experience.

The song can be seen as an autobiographical account of Morrison's life: he considered himself a "Rider on the storm." The "killer on the road" is a reference to a screenplay he wrote called The Hitchhiker (An American Pastoral), where Morrison was going to play the part of a hitchhiker who goes on a murder spree. The lyrics, "Girl you gotta love your man" can be seen as a desperate plea to his long time girlfriend Pamela. Source: Songfacts

"Riders on the Storm" defined vibe decades before vibe was even a thing. "There's a killer on the road \ His brain is squirmin' like a toad" -- 'nuff said. Remember the hypno-toad on Futurama? The lyric "Into this world we're thrown" supposedly invokes Heidegger's concept of thrownness -- a state of being in the present "with all its attendant frustrations, sufferings, and demands that one does not choose, such as social conventions or ties of kinship and duty." This was the last song Jim Morrison recorded with the band before he died. The video is something new.

I love this song cuz it's just so relaxing. Ray manzarek on keys is a genius but they were all really good. And the rain and thunder sound effects chest makes it perfect. His voice is so good for this as well. And I have always interpreted that bit about love your man as being about the cycle of life. Because he immediately follows it with something about how everything depends on the woman and for that reason life will never end. None of us would be alive if a woman didn't give birth to us.

Keyboard is the correct reference! A keyboard plays a library of synthesized sounds including accurate samplings of musical instruments such as piano, drums, strings, woodwinds, and brass..!! Old school keyboards were much larger and very heavy containing tube circuits like old tube televisions. There were external custom synthesizer/filter modules that were used to create that unique sound that each band was known for! Experience truly unique synths by listening to Boston Third Stage Album!

Jim Morrison was one of the many to call Laurel Canyon just outside of Hollywood his home. There is a book about Laurel Canyon and the connections of the musicians that came from there during the 60s. It can be downloaded for free as a pdf. It explains a lot about the time period. One thing worth mentioning is Jim's dad, the Admiral that was in charge of the naval ship used as a false flag in the Gulf of Tomkin to start the Vietnam war. I always envision the store Don McLean referred to in American Pie as the country store across the street from Jim's Laurel Canyon apartment. What I am trying to say is, the book on Laurel Canyon is a rabbit hole worth going down because so many musicians were gathered in that small area at that specific time in history.

The reference to "actor out on loan" is to the old Hollywood system where actors signed contracts with a particular studio which could last a really long time. Then they had no control over what parts they got or what movies they were put into. And the studio could loan them out to another studio to play a part in a movie without their consent. In other words you get put into a situation which you have no control over at all.

The thing about Jim Morrison is that not only is his voice one of rock's most recognized but his career was only about 4 or 5 years long. He was simply too out of this world and unpredictable. It drove the Doors up the wall. They could have lasted for decades. Great songs have kept their legacy alive. Jim's final work here is off the LA Woman album.

What inspired Jim Morrisson to write the lyrics to Riders on the storm. Is about Billy Cook who murdered 6 people while hitchhiking from Missouri to California in the early 50s. So it´s based on a true story. Jim was an great rock poet, sadly he ended up in the 27 club

Keep in mind,,,,when watching a video,,,,you're watching the DIRECTOR'S interpretation of the song. Sometimes it's best to just close your eyes and listen. 👍😎

This is the last song The Doors did as a group. They were barely talking to each other and barely got through the recording session. IMHO this was their best song regardless of the turmoil.

The keyboard that you can here being played brilliantly by Ray Manzarek was a Vox Continental Organ.

While Ray did play a Vox organ, on Light My Fire for instance, this is obviously not an organ but a Fender Rhodes electric piano.

I was mesmerized by this song when I was a kid. Nothing like hearing it on a rainy night. A total vibe in itself. At 63 I still get the same feeling when hearing it.

This is an iconic song, also if you don't know, Snoop Dogg did a remix of this song, where he raps with different lyrics, it's a good different version that I think you will enjoy!!💯🔥😎

It's either like a fender Rhodes or a Wurlitzer electric piano there was a few other ones Vox made an electric piano I think it was called a continental I can't remember what Ray Manzarek played

    Good evening from Manchester, England.
I’m glad you are reacting to The Doors. Riders On The Storm great song, in fact all The Doors tracks were good.
Here’s another great track of The Doors you should react to and that is there 11 minute song titled The End.
