    Had a cb in my vehicle since 19 years old. Til it shot shit on me. I'm 26 now. Grandpa passed away recently and he was really into cb too so I went through his old cb stuff and am gunna get it set up in my truck. I think he'd be happy I was helping keep cb alive among citizens and not just truckers.

      I remember the Moonraker and have heard of the Mic. I was a teenager..... I was able to get a Pace 123A for cutting grass for a summer for a man.. He purchased it for me before I ever started cutting the lawn. I did a good job for him! I got a great deal!!! I forget the name of the cool mobile antenna one must have,,,

      Ha, that's too funny! How true! I was big time into CB radio back in the day when I was a teenager (1977). After all these years later - five grown kids and three grandchildren, I've just secretly purchased a brand new 5' fire Stik, and 40 ch. President Mckinley ssb with all the fix'ns lol! I have not told my wife as of yet, and am planning to keep her far away from the house when my packages arrive later this week (July 24, 2020) just before our 40th wedding anniversary 😬! The best part is - I'm going to install the rig in our (her) Town & Country Mini Van! 😀😆😅🤣😂😭 This could make or break our anniversary date that's coming up on July 26th!!! Merc'a this is the Pink Panther XM12-31113 on the side with the most bodacious station in the nation reporting wall to wall tree top tall from Western Canada eh! Is that a roger and a big 10-4? This is the Lamplighter 2020 on the side! Catch you on the flip side! Keep your rabbit ears on for an up date as to how my wife's anniversary present goes over! Cheers👍😎

    the other question, when pushing wires through the firewall grommet wouldn't be better to make a new hole rather than push the existing grommet to one side? just thinking about gaps being created.

      Rick Mammana cheers, I've never had the need till now to runs wires so basically researching how to route them on here and on RAM forums. i read recently that there is a blanking plate where a clutch pedal would have been in these trucks. i got the CB bug after decades ( literally ) of last using one, currently soldered the CB to cigar plug which i heard most people frown on, hence wanting to do the proper wired method. keep up the good work.

  • @mdoverstreet30

    I've got a 29 Classic in my pickup with a Rebel 400 kicker on a 8 1/2 ft. antenna. That and a grounding strap were the only things that would bring my SWR's down. You could also run your antenna cable through the boot behind your seat so that you wouldn't have to have it going out your door. Did you get your radio peaked and tuned(radio shops call it P&T)? Also, you may want to think about instead of using the stock mic, pick up a Road King 56 (RK56) or an Astatic mic. They are noise-cancelling mics. Also, if you can't run the antenna cable without any corals in it, then run it back and forth. If corals are left, they can mess with your SWR's. You'll have to get yourself a good kicker so that you are not completely run over by someone who can be heard wall-to-wall and tree-top tall. Lol! Have fun with it. I'm sure you'll hear a few lot lizard and west coast turn-around advertisements.

    • @RickMammana
      @RickMammana  6 років тому

      +Matt Overstreet Thanks! I didn't know I had a boot behind the seat. I'll check that out. Yeah I tuned it with an swr meter that I had from years ago. I was looking into a mic and better antenna. Thanks Again! 👍😃👍

    Great video, subscribing now. So...I was into this scene back before C.W. McCall made everyone get interested in it. Back when you called people "Good Buddy" (well, east o the Mississippi anyway).
    Got a question...would be real interested in seeing the SWR thing; I got a "Workman" from Amazon, and I am using an old Realistic radio I found in my basement with a magnetic mount like yours, but I can't seem to get the SWR down below 2.25. Any thoughts? I heard an eight inch cable tied coil of the Coax might do it around the base of the mag mount. But, I'm bummed. All channels I'm below 3, but only just.
    But if all else fails, I may get that Pro 520 myself; 7 watts of power seems kinda...goooooood...

    • @RickMammana
      @RickMammana  4 роки тому

      Thanks! Yeah I was using CBs since the 70s too. I've heard some truck stops will tune your antenna for you. ? Nit sure about the 8 inch cable, try it. The pro 520 sounds good though. Thanks again!

    Pretty loud.
    Good job, a real product.
    You did a pretty good job installing it and hearing it.
    But it’s only 7 watts, which sounds like a low power, which would mean low dB rating.
    Also, you were so shaky, were you in a rush, or nervous, or have ET disorder?
    I haven’t seen other people like that on here.
    You probably needed more oxygen.
    Anyway, it’s a true product with no joke.

    • @countryfriedgamer15o
      @countryfriedgamer15o 4 роки тому

      I thought that too until I actually tested on my cobra 29, they actually dont do bad considering the $20 price tag. With the 29 I got out 5 miles or so, compared to a bigger antenna which only increased to 6 miles. They all seem to fall quiet after 3 miles depending on environmental factors and electrical interference. Now if you peak and tune a radio or add a little more output wink wink it can make it clearer and louder at those further distances. A basic legal radio that has not been messed with and running barefoot, I find it super hard to believe that any would carry more than 6 miles no matter the antenna on a vehicle. With the exception of a wide open area with minimal electrical interference, high profile vehicles such as 18 wheelers or in regards to base stations that have antennas 20+ feet in the air. I've burned up a lot of gas doing countless tests, obviously terrain has a lot to do with it and I can only vouch for my area. All of the tests were conducted as mobile to mobile, not mobile to base. Granted mobile to base may have different results because they are so high up they are likely to pickup more transmissions at greater distances. Dont get me wrong I like bigger antennas and I think they receive better but you cant always reach the person you hear especially if they are running extra power and your not. All I'm saying is the cheap antennas are not as bad as some may think and from the looks of it, it appears he bought a tram which between that and the midland 18-2442 they are probably better than the scosche ones you get from Walmart. I do think given that he has a compact radio which probably doesn't do as much output as a full size radio that maybe he should have gone a tad bit bigger but to each his own. If people want to get on the radio on a budget dont discourage them, it's a fun hobby and everyone has their own path. He did say temporary so maybe he plans on getting another antenna down the road, who knows. It's just fun to see someone enjoy it even if it's at a low cost.
