All this money could have been spent on nuclear foreign expertise and contractors to build nuclear power stations, and sort this out once and for all. We wouldn't even have to buy and import the uranium, there is a large reserve in this country.
I am flabbergasted that in more than 25 years in power, this ANC led government never had a contingency plan. Coal power stations have been out of fashion since the 70s...There is a number of contingency plans that could have been implemented, Nuclear, Hydro, modernized fossil fuel stations...This is just reckless incompetence. Some government officials should be prosecuted...and convicted.

The reality is Eskom will never be out of debt and operate efficiently even if it was privatized in fact it ill even cause more problems in creating inequality in terms of providing this basic need. The real problem is the illegal connections that causes Eskom not to collect enough revenue. For as long the ANC is in power we are riding a wave to being like Zimbabwe and other African countries.

Current situation is beyond money matters. It's about support. The biggest problem with eskom is that the people that's currently running it think they are so powerful that they can run it successfully without necessary support. They wrong. Zuma and his people are better off running eskom than cyril and his people. Cyril has the money, but he doesn't have enough support to maintain all the chaos in eskom so whoever gets appointed in eskom is destined to fail because the platform itself is not favorable to work... Zuma didn't like Gordan, but he re instated him as a finance minister when he realized that he has the support, that was a concescion he had to make... No one is an exception to this. You can be the best person for the job but without support you doomed, you set for failure
