In this clip, Iman Shumpert spoke to Coach PR about playing basketball before he could talk, revealing that his dad and his older brothers all played basketball. He went on to explain how losing to his brothers pushed him to be better, and Iman revealed that he started loving the game of basketball after learning how to get in his opponents' heads. Iman also shared how he was inspired after Kobe Bryant's tragic death to achieve all of his dreams, which you can hear more about above.

I went to grade school and HS with Iman. Cool dude. The Oak Park / Chicago thing may be confusing. But basically, OP is mostly a upper middle class suburb. But it borders 1 of the most violent and worse parts of chicago (Austin neighborhood). So, you have a choice. Hang out in the safety of Oak Park. Or hang out "Out west" aka Austin Neighborhood and K-town.
Basically the cool Black kids have many friends from Chicago and Oak Park so sometimes we (see what I did there?) - would go to parties Out west (Chicago) and we would definitely smoke loud in chicago (Oak park police are very petty and enforce everything, but Chicago police are going for guns and real drugs, so they probably won't even stop if they think some regular dudes are just smoking weed). So, yes his address was in a safe neighborhood. And there are Chicago natives who live in the bad part who will be irritated to hear him claim Chicago. But if he hung out on the West side a lot and was friends with a lot of people from Out west, then Chicago shaped him.
P.S. He was a standout basketball player since 2nd grade at least. He would get picked up to play with 5th and 6th graders, before half the 5th and 6th graders.

As a native Oak Parker, it's amazing to see Iman proudly represent for us and everyone who hailed from the village. It's the first suburb west of Chicago off the 290, but the difference between the municipalities is night and day, even by the street lights. Even as close as it is, I can never claim Chicago even though I studied there, work there, and spend most of my time there, just based on facts. The good thing about claiming where you came from is that Iman can say he's the GOAT basketball player that played at OPRF and originated from Oak Park. 👊🏿

9:19 Chicago has had a lot of artists but nobody has really put on for the city in a real way in terms of sounds and visuals. Like despite herbo, common, chance, keef , etc. What is the song/video that’s a real anthem that shows more of the city than the hood. Like you said Michigan Ave., water tower place, sears tower, the museums, navy pier, etc.

Shanon B common would be the closest but compared to artists from other places like Atlanta and Cali I will still say no. Yeah if you from the crib you catch lines about Stoney Island and Cottage Grove but test is for people that’s not to feel like they’ve gotten a glimpse of the city
