As of now, we have not seen the movie still so we do not know the premise, plot or anything. We truly watched Firefly week to week one episode at a time, sparring a few occasions . NON-SPOILER FYI: The movie "Serenity" is a "soft reboot". It had to be written this way for viewers who never saw "Firefly". As such you will find some small alterations that won't quite fit with the series.

This short, is a wonderful display of just how amazing of an actress Summer Glau is. The range of emotion and creepy believability in her decent into madness is simply mesmerizing.
i had a chance to do a photo op with Summer. I took it with me offering her a fountain pen. When the time came for her to autograph it, i had her put, "I'll have to write it down" 😁
"No it's not okay - I don't want to go there. You can't just dig into me, shove pointed needles in my eyes and ask me what I see." ~ River from the beginning of Firefly episode "Safe" This just reminds me of that scene.
Thanks for the reaction. I once briefly met Summer Glau (at a RiteAid of all places) and was able to tell her how much I loved Firefly and the Sarah Connor Chronicles & her in them. So glad you watched the release order as intended. Simply by placing Session 416 Second Excerpt first, we get a mini-mystery story of "Wow, what happened?" It draws us in. It is story telling. The Chronological order ruins all that mini-mystery drama. I wish that fan understood the disservice he/she had done to the sessions.

Having the death first is a very small mystery for Browncoats - as soon as we see River it's pretty clear she's going to be the killer, so the mystery is just "how did she get the pen?" If it comes at the end it's a final gut wrench, a case of "oh River, what have they done to the girl who loved to dance?" However, that wouldn't work if it's split up. You need something in the first episode that will grab people even if they're not Browncoats, and an interview with a fairly normal genius doesn't cut it; a mystery death does. So both have their place, I think.
I watched these in chronological order and that last shot with River was truly horrifying and scary. It's all really hard to watch and disturbing, but it explains so much about her! So glad you enjoyed Firefly and this world so far! Excited to hear your discussion after the movie. Keep in mind that for movie purposes, some character growth from the series was undone to some extent. The transition doesn't feel too fluid for me but it's a fantastic movie and never gets boring! Don't stress about watching and releasing your reaction though. It's about enjoying the ride! I wouldn't mind waiting another week or more. Life gets in the way, take it easy! Stay safe you guys!
Its important for expectation setting to know (no spoilers) that, to be consumable by an audience that never saw the show, it had to slightly change somethings, roll back some character relatiobships. It can be a bit jarring at first, just trust the filmmakers and enjoy the ride.
Yes, I second this. It’s the same characters, same actors, but their relationships and even some personalities are not what they were when we last saw them. That threw me off at the beginning and everything moved so fast after that it was hard to process. I think if you’re braced for that it will help. Regarding the relationship of the series and the movie, if I might offer a word picture: The series was like being on the front end of a roller coaster ride. The part that slowly climbs up, and up and up. The movie happens right after you crest over the top. You’re in a for a twisty-turning, sometimes terrifying ride at break neck speed. Buckle up. And remember, you’re not alone. Many of us have been on this same ride many times - and survived. And here we are, fixing to get on the ride again with you.
a real horror movie, isn't it? a superb display of talent from summer glau! if you want to see her in an opposite role - but completely devoid of emotions and facial expressions, I recommend you to watch terminator: the sarah conner chronicles. as you already noticed, she can with ease to look TERRIFIC…
I'm relived you watched these before the movie, where you are now is exactly the right state of curiosity for it. I always feel that these sessions underscore my favourite line from the entire show - from Trash "Also, I can kill you with my mind." Mike, I hope you're all settled in to your new place, and none of you are nursing injuries from helping! I'm very much looking forward to Serenity and the blooper reel. I'm sure at least Mikey will read Book's backstory, so even if it's only a short, I hope you let us know how you feel about that!
I wonder if I'm alone in wondering what the distiction is between mind and brain, because the line is Brain, not mind. I do also sometimes remember it as mind, so don't worry.
I always thought these session tapes explained a lot about River's craziness. It also sets you up for the River you will meet in the movie. Looking forward to that.

When she says that she has finally been given a mission, the interviewer assumes it was a mission suggested by Dr. Mathias, but in fact, it was how she had contrived something Simon had conveyed to her during their childhood play.
"She always did love to dance . . . " eta: Re the ship's name, "Serenity", rewatch the episode "Bushwhacked". The battle in the first episode occurs in Serenity Valley.
does the fact that the ship is named Serenity after the battle of serenity valley negate any of their theories about the deeper meaning of the name in the show? I would argue not. With everything else in this show, we cannot be so simple minded that we take the name only at face value.

There is no way to prepare yourself for the movie. Everything happens so fast and furious that you really don't have time to absorb it all, let alone react. As a matter of fact many things will happen instantaneously and you must figure out within a couple of seconds what just happened. Those couple of seconds is when you will all start talking at the same time, usually missing much of the explanation of what you just saw. I recommend that you don't be afraid to stop the video when it gets too overwhelming to continue. I've never seen anyone react to Serenity and NOT stop the video because it was just too much. Enjoy!

I have to disagree, I watched them first in the other order and found it much more effective.
