Thanks for everything! I am sure I will enjoy the rig. By the way you are absolutely correct about running fans to keep radio gear cool. I learned this when I first got into the hobby almost 35 years ago and was using tube HF rigs. I always learn something from your videos. Many thanks again 73 de N2VQD
Great radio. No need to get into service menu unless you have correct test equipment and the know how . Yes 10 meter AM is fun. Been lots of that lately. The qt radios have great sounding AM. Not too punchy modulation. I talked to a POTA station on 10 meters and they using a QT 80 PRO . working a big pile up. Took me awhile to get threw . But I did get that park to park . I even made a contact with a SOTA station that day. I don't know what radio SOTA had. Their is 2 fan kits now for the QT 80 radios on eBay now. I just redid my PTT keying box. Went a different direction and much easier. Just using a 2 relay-optocoupler board 12V and 1 extra part . A dip relay . Now I got radio delay PTT before the amp. The outher way was taking too many parts .The one I am making for a friend is a 4 relay board. And need only a 1N914 diode and got 1 PTT in and 3 PTT outs and 1 with delay for radio . Needed 3rd output to switch SDR into 50 ohm load and isolate when transmitting. Still waiting on parts to finish that . Should be heard Monday , Trade wars got me now. I have a Amazon package held up in costumes . Herd nothing and girlfriend still waiting on her stuff ! No answers yet ! The sellers know nothing . Only we get text message delayed in customs . Girlfriend got text refused buy USPS . Then next day delayed msg came in. Crazy ! My sellers in Canada know to ship UPS and not USPS . But still the UK is cheaper and faster . I hope this doesn't hurt radios too much from China . I have a old super star 120. AM/FM radio . 120 CH and mic is missing. I found it in this video LOL ! 73 from NY !!
The power on 15 m is low but my first 15m conact twas from texas to germany was given a 57-58 sig report. Im happy. If i need more power for that band ill bust out my ft 747 gx for 100 w. So far all ive needed isnt even what 666pro/qt80 can do. Im concentrating on 10-15m while its hot. Im mostly on 10 and 11m though. Lots of good dx goin on. Got any suggestions on someone that can fix old yeasu radios. Mine got dropped off table and is barley usable sometimes and not at all sometimes. Im thinking bout dx radio shop so far but still looking
I would try to factor how much it would cost to fix it versus replacing it with a newer model. In some cases the shipping costs alone with any labor related costs can outweigh replacing an outdated model with something more current. The FT891 is a pretty versatile radio for the cost.
I have the QT80 And its a great all round radio and it works very well .
