what some people don't realize is that the repairs for the cars are also timed, fantastic team work there for a transmission, suspension and brake change.
They went from tarmac settings to gravel settings by replacing the front, rear suspension and and diffs, as well brakes and a gravel transmission with different ratios!! That is amazing!!!!
I like those little yellow curtains on the inner fenders to protect the sway bar and steering rack from rocks... nice touches that make the difference between a pro team and the novice. That and the 20-strong pit crew.
he's just double checking incase the mechanics miss anything.. its easy to miss things when you're rushing against time. also only a certain amount of mechanics can touch the car. so thats why they don't 'get their hands dirt' during service
it is not "rebuilding". It is rally Spain, the change car from tarmac specification to gravel spec. Rally spain has a day of tarmac racing and day of gravel racing.
Once met hirvonen back early 2000s when i went to msport to rebuild a 2001 ford focus wrc car for the rally hire company i worked for and he was on his back under his own focus with spanners in hand learning how his car worked, great guy 👍👌
You can change a clutch on these cars without removing the transmission, and the same goes for the cv joints, the wheel hubs are removable for the cv to go thru without disassembling the suspension.
Its the luxury of factory support. Its replace in case, not fix. Each guy has just a couple of jobs to do. They get paid pretty well, but not as much as you would think. They do it for loyalty and dedication more than money. When you wreck a car and they have to rebuild it to new, sometimes without sleep, you are given the silent treatment.
While the cars are running the next stage, or stages. the parts that came off this rebuild will gone over. Fix what needs to be fixed, revalve the shocks if needed, front and rear diffs, brake rotors, hubs, calipers, suspension arms, etc. inspected, with parts replaced as needed. Then all those parts go back on next stop. Then R & R set #2 that now comes off the car while the original refreshed sub assemblies go back on. And rotated like that through the rally. They likely have a third set of sub-assemblies, just in case they need it before the other set is ready.
In the early 90's I had a rally team. Before that, I only knew how to fill up my car with gasoline and change the battery or a light bulb. There was a mechanic, an electrician, a painter and a driver. It was me, 4 in 1, because I learned to do everything. I had a Mini 850 with no engine, and I installed the engine from the Austin 1300 GT. The second year I mounted another 1300 GT engine in the rear. It was a 4x4. What was missing was hands and skill for all that. But it was funny.
How nice would it be to have EVERY tool for the particular task right next to you? Whenever I do something I spend a lot of time walking back and forth to my tool box and even then I found I don't always have the right tool for the job!!
2:54 the perks of having a high budget, no point fixing components, just swap them out. It's what makes the job faster, and gives you time to overhaul and inspect the previous ones
The components are all rebuilt back at factory headquarters. You want maximum reliability during races. So it’s more efficient to replace everything with new components.
They were switching the car from tarmac spec to gravel spec in Rally Spain. It was a mixed surface rally, so the teams converted the car between legs. This is Mikko Hirvonen's car.
It wasn't a speed strip numb nuts , Does anyone there look to be hurrying to you? Does the atmosphere even give any minute hint that they are In a hurry? Geeeze
They are not mechanics. They are assemblers of parts trained for this service. There they do not solve problems, everything is changed. And a citroen not fault, can not move on. There is a difference, a damaged part is not a malfunction.
Feliciano Paixão they do fix problems, in this video they were just changing the car setup from tarmac to gravel, thats why they changed the whole diff with all the components attach to it
what some people don't realize is that the repairs for the cars are also timed, fantastic team work there for a transmission, suspension and brake change.
This is more relaxed that the 30 minute repair job with the busted left rear wheel.
there was only 4 techs working on that car. There appears to be 8 working on this one?
This was also planed. The other one was not planed before
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Some people watch porn, Some people watch race car rebuilds.
This is amazing!
I knew I had forgotten something. Thanks XD
Shirokuma that is rally car.
And some of us watch both 7u7
It looks like each mechanic has a specific task and it certainly looks like the system works without anyone getting in the way of another mechanic.
+Gordon Clark the time given to repair the car is limited so they have to be as efficient as possible
Efficiency is the name of the game. Just good to see how they work together.
I hate the fucking engineers, they always have a word about assembly but they never got their hands dirty.

ever wonder why there were no lady mechanics?
Normal mechanics can do these works in a week. But they are so fast and skillful. Great men.👏👏
Cars are different... Rally car are engineered to be "easy" to work on..
If only I could hire a crew like this to come to my garage and do work on my car.
Sorry but these specialists don't touch a shit with rusty bolts 😉
That will cost you so much, that even can't afford it.
cheaper rebuying new car every week
If u could hire them u are already one of the founder of these branded car
they dont fix cars, they change some parts...
No rusty old bolts to undo there!!
A well oiled machine. Awesome work and very satisfying to watch.
Brilliant teamwork

Why change their transmisión?
@@esifoner I assume different gear ratios for tarmac and gravel

Same should apply to normal cars
@@wambuasammy2348 lol no. Dealership shops would have nothing to do lmao

that shows exactly why they're so succesfull!
Beautiful Team Work... keep it up... Cheers.

+Jeremiah Alfrey yeah exactly what I wanted to say. very nice.

If you watched this all you are a car enthusiast of the highest order, great vid, great comments, thank OP.
Excelente Citroen 💪 buen trabajo 👏
Good work
Lovely video
By the look the car, I felt that a rebuilt was unnecessary.
They were converting it from tarmac spec to gravel spec
Luego va el piloto y a los dos minutos se pega un porrazo. Oh my good.
more info on that floor jack please!
unlike our service crew. the adjustable spanner has seized, we've run out of tie wraps, we forgot to bring fuel, happy days.

Actually they are changing the setup of the car from on road to off road and that includes brakes diffs and suspension.
Love those stands👍👍
Les voitures d Abou Dhabi! J admire les mécanos autant que les pilotes.
Nic job
Warum sind die radhäuser , die achskomponenten ,etc. nach einer rallyprüfung blitzeblank ?

Repair without almost a single word...
Hermoso como debe ser ¡¡
sick
do they need to do the wheel alignment?
Was there something wrong with the drivetrain? Or do they just replace it after so many miles?
No, they change from the tarmac setup to the gravel setup. and thats easier to change everything.

That explains not needing ramps after the change. Those guys don;t mess around.
Would be easier to have a second car.
TheWRCJunkie what is tarmac spec and gravel spec?
this is amazing
Все что можно было поменяли. Можно мне заехать на своей машине?
I need jack stands too.
I want to drive this car !!!
Because those race cars are very simple inside the metal shell. Try to rebuild a modern BMW.
Surgeons at their best
Where can I get a pneumatic jack like they use? Harbor Freight?
Same question, I want one too 😁
👌
Mantab betul
How many thousands does that jack cost?! pneumatic hydraulic?
super fino
From tarmac to gravel?
What's the purpose of the gold bar with all the holes in it on the back of the car?
tow bar
its a support bar for bumper, holes make it lighter
What is the reason of rebuilding the whol car ? It doesn't look damaged?
maybe different track
from Asphalt to Tarmac or something like that?
Yep, switching the car from tarmac spec to gravel spec. Rally of Spain is the only one with mixed surface.
4:22 pokaże to gdy mechanik mi powie że maglownica to dużo roboty ;)
surprised they lifted the transaxle in by hand...and knee.

citroen gets the middle finger "if we can win we wont play..." how very sad!
These guys changed twice as much gear in half the time the Toyota guys take. No comparison.
