- Adirondack woodcarver Rick Butz shares tales of the Adirondack Mountains as he demonstrates how to carve a wide variety of subjects-some practical and others whimsical-plus many examples of folk art. In this episode, Rick and his daughter Julie carve a mother orca and it's calf.
Julia was very knowledgeable back then. I saw recently on Facebook she has a daughter pretty little red head like her grandad.lol the Butz family still looking good and doing the same things with nature, traveling, and of course woodcarving.👍🏾💯

Suddenly I have a new favourite channel.
She certainly knew her orcas, and she explained it in a way that showed she had a genuine interest. I found that equally interesting.
With the main flat chisel was it one with a bevel both sides of the blade? I have seen them on another channel but it was more of a true chisel there, where here it was a much thinner wider blade. Also is it all freehand or was there a pencilled in drawing to begin with? I think I need to look at some of the earlier videos.

I don't have answers. I'm just an old fan of the show who purchased the DVDs and VHS episodes years ago. I've never carved anything in my life. I just loved watching the shows and listening to Rick's lectures on the subject he was carving. I'm happy to share them here, especially since I seem to be the only one to have EVER uploaded Rick's carving shows. Maybe I'm they only one who still has copies of the original episodes.
Dan Cuomo I can fully understand how you became a fan despite never carving anything. It’s not a series I recall having been on British TV, but being a chef at that time I didn’t get to watch much TV. It’s really appreciated that you have up loaded them as I’ve only made a couple of not too successful attempts. Thank you.
@@markharris5771 Hey, you're welcome, Mark. I uploaded a bunch from my DVDs last year. I still had some (like this one) on VHS but I hadn't a clue how to convert VHS to MP4, so I just shelved the project and forgot about it. But all the positive comments I've gotten on my original uploads inspired me to investigate the VHS tapes. Walmart charged me $75 to convert them to DVD. It's a lot, but I almost feel, at this point, like I owe it to the Rick Butz fans out there to spend the cash and get them uploaded for the posterity of these shows. Now, everyone has a copy. :)
